One of my favourite sights so far this season has been Saliba celebrating a goal. For 99% of the match, the bloke is a picture of composure. Cool, calm, rarely flustered even after a mistake. Then we score, and he goes batshit crazy, tongue out, all sorts of faces made whilst wheeling away in celebration. Its brilliant viewing :D
 
Really struggled to break wolves down in that first half. A lot of possession for hardly any shots on target. Wolves were always gonna hit on the counter though and sit in a low block. Great to eventually keep pushing and break them down.

Controlled the first half but were quite prone to passing errors that left us vulnerable to Wolves' counter threat. A few seasons ago we definitely would've conceded. Second stanza was much better, with a beautifully worked goal to break the deadlock. Credit to Wolves, they were well organised; more similar to a 5-10th placed Prem side than that of a 20th. Were in cruise control from then on.

Excellent placement from Ohdeargod for the second goal; his finishing has been a weakness that seems to have been improving as of late. Hopefully Jesus can find the back of the net in Qatar; every other part of his game has been first-class.

City losing is a bonus, and how about our boy Willock doing a number on those pricks from the Bridge. Couldn't have asked for a better state of affairs as we break for the World Cup.

We've clearly been better than City this season though, they have been pretty poor in quite a few games. The first few games after the break are going to be massive to get momentum back. The odds are closing up, we are into 3.6 (City $1.56). Although we have a young team that will keep getting better, its really been you have to catch City in a bad season to win the league lately, this might be our best chance for a while even if we are a better team in the next few seasons.

Stranger things have happened, but it's highly unlikely that we win the league. I'll be ecstatic to finish 2nd to City, and content with UCL qualification.

Perfect time to Pep & his staff to recalibrate. Haaland off a 6 week break is a frightening prospect.

During the week there was an article saying how some players including Vieira weren't any good. I know these writers have to come up with a story but Vieira is at a new club and has barely had a game.

He was in the perfect spot for the assist. Either Odagaard or Saka could have tapped it in.
 
The two head to head matches against City will be massive. Not necessarily title deciding or anything like that, just a huge test. One of our best performances in the 2022 calendar year is still that loss to City at The Emirates in the new years round of fixtures. Really controlled that game for the vast majority, unfortunately lost our s**t at key moments and ended up losing the match. Partey was immense that game. He's that important in the big fixtures. In any game actually, for Arteta's system.

So much continues to rely on that first choice XI remaining fit. Whatever happens after the restart will happen. Its such an enjoyable (and sustainable) brand of football to watch. Its glorious at times. Arteta deserves a lot of credit here for the transformation in the culture at the club.

Thought he slotted in very well this morning and has played a few different positions in his appearances so far. Barely had a pre season as well, was injured for the first 6-8 weeks. I think the break will be very beneficial for him in a mini preason style capacity, and he's going to have a much greater impact after Christmas.

Honestly, I'm genuinely okay with finishing second to City. That is a stacked squad they've got, and we're showing that we're still lacking in depth. If Edu can get the necessary business done in January and then we go on to finish top two, he'll be the most in demand front office staff member in Europe.

Oh for sure. There will be no shame in finishing second even if we had more depth. We’ve got the youngest squad in the league too. It bodes well if we can sign some more quality in depth.

Another quality forward
Another CM more of a 6 as a backup/ competition for Partey
Another CB more of a leftsided one as cover for Gabriel

Are we sticking to recruiting u'24s still? Or does Arsenal start bringing in more experienced 'last contract' players like, say, W. Zaha?

Yes that's brilliant to look at. Such a brilliant turnaround from Arsenal. The atmosphere at the matches, relationship between the players and the fans, the culture that transmits from the club. All of that is palpable from watching on from such a distance. Arteta has been at the centrepoint of all of that, he deserves immense credit.

The ownership too, which is not a popular thing to say I know. In this regard, they've not only been resolute in their support of Arteta, but also steadfast in their view of the club and have been crystal clear that they have no intention of selling etc even when there was quite public interest from the Daniel Elk consortium in the aftermath of the super league debacle. I only reference this because it permeates in what we are now seeing with Arsenal this season, there's a genuine level of stability right from the top through to executive level, to the manager, to the players and so on. Any successful institution needs such stability.

Whether the world cup stifles Arsenal's momentum and we fall away after the new year, don't really care for now. As you said, for the next 6-7 weeks Arsenal sit nicely at the top of the table and that should be enjoyed.
