Reus is my dream signing. Best LW in the world IMO. Would be fascinated to see if he could convert into a CF.

Not yet, in the future he will certainly could be.

I played him as a ST on FIFA if that helps.

Money in your bank account suggests otherwise. £25m bond repayments a year. AFAIK you're still paying that.

Moomba is right. We should have been spending 30-40m in the past two seasons on quality players and we had the capability to do so in terms of cash in the bank. However, if it weren't for player sales in the past few fiscal years we would have been posting losses and I think the board have been ultra conservative in that regard. Now that we have those new commercial deals the shackles are off and we can see from the purchase of Oezil that the club isn't scared to spend some serious $$$

Not necessarily true. A very common misconception regarding our finances the past few years, that the club has done well to discreetly create this veil that we are shackled by the stadium debt etc. Anyway, the purchase of Ozil has been a very welcome and overdue statement of intent. The effects so far speak for themselves.

We have Bendtner, Park, Ryo etc.

We'll be fine, like Smyth said.

You used to be such an optimist! :)

It's actually true, I've gone through our last 3 financial statements along with reading Swiss Ramble's excellent analysis on Arsenal's funds - we pretty much would have been breaking even or making losses in a few of those years.

I agree that Arsenal are on the right way, but Flamini is ready to get a red card, he's a pathetic player, always trying to break players legs

I think your big challenge isnt so much your quality or your depth, I think its maintaining performances and results when the pressure of a title race is on. So far you've done very well over a long period of time but you are yet to really be put under that pressure where any bad performance/bad result can cost you a title, and every game is a key game.

I know from two years ago it's stifling just for the supporters let alone the players.

Having someone like Ozil will help but I do think that it's next to impossible to come up from nowhere and fully thrive under the pressure of a title race.

If you can do it, then thats obviously great for the club. If not it could be a valuable experience leading to a real push next year with maybe another Ozil type signing or two.

Fair point on performing at this level during the pressure and challenge of a title race late in the season. Has been quite a while since we've been in that position, and that all went to shit from the Birmingham game onwards (damn you Clichy).

Difficult one to predict, as there's been a fair bit of turnover in the squad since so this current group hasn't faced that pressure yet. Walcott, Flamini, Sagna, are the only players I can recall who were with us at that time. Rosicky and Fabianski as well perhaps.

We were under that sort of pressure in the top 4 race last season.

It wouldn't have cost us the the title, sure, but it's CL football and 25 mil. And Ozil.

Nah. Been in one of those as well and it's nothing like it. Two years ago it was like I was permanently on edge for the last three months of the season. I was totally knackered by the end of it and I didnt kick a ball.

Difference is that the squad we have now are seasoned pros and internationals with plenty of caps. Back in 2008 (the last time we truly challenged for the title) we had a lot of very talented youngsters such as Flamini, Fabregas, RvP, Hleb, Clichy etc

I honestly think if we're there abouts in January and sign a CF we can definitely challenge for the title.

Flamini was 24, Hleb was 27, RvP was 25 and Clichy was 23. Can't really call them youngsters.

Cesc was the only real young one of that group, 21.

In 07-08 the players who started the majority of the season were

Almunia
Sagna - Toure - Gallas - Clichy
Hleb - Fabregas - Flamini - Eboue
Adebayor - Walcott with Bendtner having the most appearances as a sub

Kolo was an invincible, Eboue, Hleb, Adebayor, and Gallas were fixtures in their respective national teams, but the rest had only sporadic appearances in friendlies and early qualifiers at best. Beyond them, only Gilberto Silva, RvP, Eduardo, Rossicky and Jens Lehman had extensive national team experience, and they scarcely played.

So apparently Sagna has a hamstring injury and will be out for a couple of weeks.
Fortunately the international break is coming up so should really only miss this weeks match and the match against the socceroos. Its a blow but with The Corporal waiting in the wings we can handle it. Would be nice to be getting players back from injury rather than the other way around.

Speaking of coming back from injury, hopefully Rosicky will improve with a few more runs. Understand he was rusty and not fully fit against Napoli, but he had a shocker. Constantly gave the ball away, had poor touches and sold team mates into trouble.
