David Ornstein, BBC Sport

"New Arsenal signing Kim Kallstom is set for a spell on the sidelines with a back injury that was discovered in the medical before he signed on loan from Spartak Moscow.

"The 31-year-old Sweden midfielder sustained the problem on Tuesday while playing football on a beach during Spartak's pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi.

"The Arsenal medical team provided manager Arsene Wenger with the prognosis, but it was decided Kallstrom would still join and undergo his rehabilitation with the Gunners.

"Kallstrom did not train with his new team-mates on Friday or Saturday and will briefly return to Sweden and Russia before moving to London and beginning a course of treatment.

Apart from the irony of signing a player with a significant injury to cover players with injuries, it screams that we have once again left it too late in the window to manoeuvre for anyone else when plans hit a snag.

It seems he was signed directly as a result of the injuries to Wilshere and Ramsey, and 4 game suspension of Flamini.

But he himself was injured last Tuesday, with a back injury to keep him out for 6 weeks. Its simply mind boggling.

Isn't the story that he aggravated the injury yesterday?

The medical staff told Wenger of the injury but he went ahead and signed him anyway.

Where have you heard this from Latro? Its simply baffling to comprehend, but given we keep renewing Diaby's contract at ridiculous wages, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is true.

I read it somewhere as well, I'll try dig up the link, but he was injured before he was signed.
