The team that was on the park yesterday was good enough to beat anyone in the league but they just looked very flat: Montpellier 3 days ago made sure of that. The French team didn't sit back and try and absorb the pressure, they pressured Arsenal every minute of the game and the gunners had to work overtime to overcome them.
i think you're being quite generous to montpellier. IMO, they were quite ordinary and we won the game quite comfortably.

again, we are flat because we dont have a good enough squad. our best players are terrific and capable of causing damage to the top teams, but there is a ridiculously large gap between our first choice players (such as wilshere) and their deputies (such as ramsey). as latro pointed out, if giroud or cazorla goes down, we are f*cked.

the pressure really must be getting to wenger now, for him to come out so strongly like that is unusual but perhaps a sign of the times. replacing giroud with le coq when we're trying to win a game late on really is a bizarre move.
To be fair it made sense as once Gervinho came on he(gervinho) either didn't put a cross in or when Arshavin put a cross in he wouldn't be in the box and Giroud would be battling two defenders and as such he became useless. I would have thought Wenger would put Wilshere on instead of Coquelin but I think Wenger felt that we would not score and didn't want to risk him. Preferably we would have a back up striker but we don't spend 10 mil plus on back ups though hopefully this changes soon.

Biggest disappointment for me was Arteta he was happy to pass backwards and sideways but rarely went forward and as our anchor in midfield who sets the tempo we play at, he needed to apply a faster tempo to try and stretch Villa's defence. Another thing we don't do is put balls in behind the defence which makes us too predictable.

i think you're being quite generous to montpellier. IMO, they were quite ordinary and we won the game quite comfortably.

Montpellier aren't that good but they played a type of "full-court-press", to use a basketball term. We are a class above them but to their credit, we had to run and run and run. It wasn't like some other games in that competition where players get the chance to sit around the card table and have a cuppa.

In the last last three weeks or so, Man.Utd lost to Norwich, West Brom beat Chelsea and Man.City drew with West Ham. Those three spend a million for every one dollar we spend and their squads are chokas with class players.

It's the EPL and you surely can't be surprised at some of the results.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm satisfied with our squad. I'd like a quality left back, a quality destroyer in midfield and a half decent 'keeper but our squad is deep enough to beat Aston Villa on any given day but as I said, it's the EPL, not some gunka European league where, after the top 2, 3, 4, even half a dozen teams, the rest would struggle to get out of the NPower Championship.

In the EPL, if you aren't completely on your game, you inevitably suffer the consequences regardless whether you are playing the Manchester teams, Wigan, Reading, Norwich, Fulham etc. etc.

Apparently Walcott and Sagna have been left off the 2013 Calender!! Losing Walcott will be terrible. What is the point of developing a player only to sell him when he is peaking...oh wait, thats how we roll. Play on.

However, Wenger insists Arsenal are not about to break the bank for a marquee signing.
"If we get that amount of money from sponsors it is not charity, it is because the sponsors feel that we act in the right way and with the right values. They reward that," Wenger said.
"Afterwards it is down to us to spend the money in the right way.
"There are two aspects to any deal; one is the transfer [fee] and the other is the wages.
"The transfers for these kinds of players are not at £30 million today, they are at £50 million or £60 million and what has gone through the roof is the wages of these players.
"That is why people plead for financial fair play. Some clubs even pleaded that the new television money (for Premier League clubs) should not be used to increase wages because it gives huge problems to everybody."
Wenger is likely to move for a forward when the January transfer window opens, with a short-term loan move for Thierry Henry remaining a possibility and Crystal Palace's promising youngster Wilfried Zaha described as "not more on the list than anybody else".
As always, Wenger stressed any new addition must bring added value to the group.
"If we find the real top, top, top player then we will be on the market," he added. "We have no fixed number, we look just at quality.
"We have a good squad, I believe that these players have a fantastic attitude. They deserve success and they will have success."

ha.

Top, top, top player. How is Park Chu Young going, you know the guy we signed when we missed out on Mata?

i thought chamakh was bendtner's replacement? speaking of bendtner, he is better than chamakh/park.

prediction for tomorrow morning gents? i reckon 2-2

fellaini to boss our midfield and score from a set piece. the link up play between podolski and giroud is developing well, and with jack back in the starting line up i think we'll take a point.

None of them will be of much use to the side anymore you'd think.

Depends if which Arsenal squad turns up.

My prediction is a 1-1 draw. A win is a must though.

Ramsey pretty much played the main part in Evertons goal. He has now become the worst Arsenal player I have ever seen since Gilles Grimandi. Well done Aaron you have given me heartburn.

Where are the AKB defenders? Would love to know your thoughts on playing Ramsey at right wing, only using two subs, the second off which was in the 86th minute taking Cazorla off for Coquelin.

Go on, I am utterly intrigued as to how you defend these acts of stupidity.

Regarding the subs, didn't Kos come off with an injury?

When you have Coquelin and Ramsey getting regular game time you will not win anything. ME SOOOOO MADDDDDDDDDD!!!!:mad:
