Interesting thread, but like many others, I do not think the age should be raised. The OP's post is flawed as it was mentioned that 21 year old's will then go in to pubs just how 18 year old's.

As others mentioned children need to be educated properly about the dangers/risks etc. And I don't think having the occasional drink with your child would be that bad of an idea tbh.

This, had a fair few American exchange students in my class at uni who said much the same thing about being here. Half the fun is in the rebellious nature of it all.

It was later less fun because her party (in our apartment) got shut down by the campus police at 11pm, overall a bad night for her

Making the drinking age higher won't fix the problem, there's a drinking culture in Australia. I think what others have said about education is a good point.

Haha all on campus living at my uni has "consumption of drugs or alcohol within premises is grounds for instant eviction" or something along those lines written on the contract, puts a dampener on that I'm guessing Was looking into doing a semester in Boston since that's the exchange option for my uni, but being told it costs 10k put a bit of a stop to that...

According to the cops who gave a speech to us we're one of the worst countries in terms of having a drinking culture.

We possibly do have one of the "worst" drinking cultures going around, but I still don't think it's particularly bad. There are no doubt problems but I think many of them are massively overblown.

Drinking age is fine. Imagine getting married at 20 and not being able to drink because our countries drinking age is 21!
