I think Betts, Robinson, Garlett and Yarran might prove that wrong.
I wasnt speaking literally. Fevola used to always take the best defender, and still romp home with 4 goals per game. Which big Carlton forward is going to have the unenviable task of taking Scarlett, Glass, Rutten, et al each week? Your best big forward this year managed just 13 goals (Kruezer), and next season either he, Waite or Henderson is going to be targeted even more.

J.Waite is no slouch and will slot right into full forward.
I like how everyone thinks Fev was our only scoring option. Waite will prove what a valuable and versatile player he is in 2010.
Fevola was getting 75+ goals per year, with his last 2 seasons netting 89 and 99 goals. Whoever steps in at full forward wont be getting close to that. Over the course of the year you will be a 30 goal worse off side, and thats with the optimisism that your replacement full forward will get 60 goals - something which only 4 players in the entire AFL achieved this season.

Waites best total in 7 seasons is 36 goals, and that was in 2005. If he is your Fevola substitute, he is going to have a pretty big task just to kick 50 goals for the year on the leagues best defenders.

B- Bower - Jamison - Russell
HB-Armfield - Thornton - Joseph
C- Murphy - Simpson - Gibbs
HF- Walker - Kreuzer - Waite
F- Betts - Henderson - Yarran
Foll: Warnock - Judd - Mclean
Int: Hampson - Hadley - Houlihan - Carazzo

EMG: Scotland, Robinson, Pick 12, Garlett,

That's my shot at it. :D

And where do you think Kreuzer played this year?

He played about 90-95% of the year in the ruck and yet he still managed 13 goals. That in itself was a great achievement.

In regard to Waite he played the vast majority of the last 3 years in the backline. He was only moved forward for the last 3 games before his injury this year. When he played up forward early in his career he played in a forward line with several other targets - Brendan Fevola, Lance Whitnall, and Matthew Lappin and a young and in form Brad Fisher. The club, and Carlton supporters know of his potential to kick a fair amount of goals being the main target up forward.

Fevola kicked as many goals as he did over the past 3-4 years as he was subject to the vast majority of forward entries. Those forward entries aren't going to disappear, and they could very well incline with an improve of efficiency in 2010.

In fact, several could argue that the unpredictability of us going forward could actually turn out to be beneficial in many cases.

Yes Fevola is class, yes Fevola created opportunity and a hell of a lot of goals, but he was also the most targeted forward in the AFL. Clubs knew it, and many times it was to our detriment.

This year players will be forced to look at other avenue's. Waite will be one, Kreuzer another, Henderson another, Betts, Yarran, Garlett, Robinson will feed off the contests. It will take time to adjust, but the club may turn out to be better off in the long run.

Most of our forward line pressure comes from the small blokes. Fev was a great harrasser, and will be missed. But Waite, Betts, Garlett etc. are very good at the defensive work.

Fevola was in the top 5 inside 50 tacklers of the comp.

Hope Yarran can get that in his game and will be very good for us.

FB: Thornton - Jamison - Armfield

HB: Scotland - Bower - Houlahan

C: Simpson - McLean - Gibbs

HF: Russell - Waite - Carrazzo

F: Betts - Henderson/Cloke - Yarran

R: Kreuzer - Judd - Murphy

INT: Hampson/Warnock - Joseph - Walker - Grigg

Kreuzer is a Ruck play him there (will be a good forward but will be a great ruck)

Henderson is not ready for FF yet

Not sure about Warnock yet, Hampson is still better in my eyes

FB: Joseph Jamison Thornton

HB: Bower Waite Russell

C: Carrazzo McLean Simpson

HF: Walker Henderson Murphy

FF: Betts Krezuer Yarran

RR: Warnock Judd Gibbs

Bench: Hampson, Austin, Grigg, Fisher

can anyone tell me what the team line-up would have looked like in maybe 2000-2001? Before Fev became a gun? No reason in particular, just pretty interested.

This might sound silly and I will get jumped on by all and sundry but I think we can do something a little different. If we have Kruezer and O'hAlipin in the forward half we don't necessarily need a big tall FF. We just need someone with some speed over short distance, cna mark a ball and can kick rather accurately. Therefore see below???
B; Joseph Jamison Thornton
HB: Armfield Austin Bower
C; Waite Mclean Walker
HF; Judd O'hAlipin Simpson
F; Kruezer Houlihan Betts
R; Warnock, Gibbs, Murphy
Inter; Russell, Henderson, Yarran, Robinson
Em; O'Keefe,Grigg, Hadley, Hampson

Sarcasm right? Hendo in the guts?! Bentick & Johnson on the forward flanks?! Jacobs at CHB?! and Gibbsy at FB! sure ratts might want to play that team if it rides on getting another 1st draft pick...but GC got it so dont get your hopes up.

Why would your choices for pick 12 be getting a game ahead of Austin?

The veratility in this team is impressive, this team would only be possible if Maguire could get fit and we actually do give him a punt, but this team all in full steam would give some teams a mighty blue migrane Migraine.

Plus we still have pick 12 which most likely wont be an AFL ready player but its possible:thumbsu:

Robinson, Garlett, Browne, Scotland, Hadley, Fisher, Jacobs, O'keeffe, Johnson, Anderson, Pick #12...

I'm loving the look of this team and regardless of whether Goose can get his body up to scratch, our team is looking pretty bloody good, getting some depth happening! Bloody hard to select a first 22 these days which is fantastic!

B: Joseph Jamison Thornton
HB: Russell Waite Bower
C: Simpson Judd Walker

So many of those choices are contentious in my mind
