Upper Murray FL 2019

They almost have to do so for their own good now.

They seem to be the keenest to do something about it but the others seem content to sink with the Titanic. They would in effect become a quasi "Upper Murray Eagles".

If they are able to find their way into the TDFL then some players from other clubs are likely to jump aboard because playing TDFL football is a step in the right direction for football in the region.
The keenest to do something was the Club that Folded.
Bullioh want to do what’s best for them
Federals I believe wanted to do what’s best for the Communities of the Upper Murray.

Welcome to 2023.
A crucial 12 months for Upper Murray football begins now.
It seems this topic comes up every year.
Only 4 Clubs now and One Would jump ship if a position came up in the TDFL.
Best of luck to the remaining Clubs.
Is there any indication on the fixture yet?
Will it be play everyone twice for a 12 week season?
Once at home and once away or just a 9 week season and start later or finish earlier.

The fairest would be 12 games (two home and two away versus every other club).
That does seem light-on but 15 games would mean meeting the other clubs five times (and 18 matches would be six meetings!) which starts to get monotonous.

I reckon play 12 rounds over 13 weeks (one bye week for King's Birthday Holiday) starting on April 22. You could always bung in an extra week or two off (e.g. school holidays) to stretch the home-and-away season out a bit.

At the risk of being deemed a participation award, have a four-week finals series involving every club (1SF, 2SF, PF, GF). A three-team finals series would last only two weeks (PF and GF) and be too sudden a finish to the season.

We have at least 4-5 clubs that are currently on the precipice right now, including Castlemaine, Corowa-Rutherglen, Rushworth and Old Mentonians.

I reckon this time next year, we will be talking about 10-15 clubs in this position.

We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg right now.
It’s why a merger of some sort just seems like a no brainer. It’s not the most ideal outcome but it seems like a better one than having a footy competition that less and less people are interested in.

Hearing the Demons New Coach has a few that have put pen to paper Old Kenny.
How many does he need to bridge the gap to the other 3 remaining Clubs

Is there still a Salary Cap or is it free reign now?
I’m guessing your alluding to the Cudgewa recruits?

This is where country footy is rooted. It stopped being local. And when it stops being local.. the locals stop caring as much. Especially if their team isnt a premiership contender.

Good on Cudgewa. They’re probably flag favourites off the back of those signings. But don’t tell the public up here we’re keeping the league going for the community and then go and buy in half a team to win a premiership while the “community” watches that money walk out of the Upper Murray area.
