Beating Freo in Perth in 2023 was a clear upset. It was Round 2 and we were back-to-back spooners and they played finals in 2022.

The last time we beat a team who would go onto finals was Richmond in 2022

The last time we beat a team who would go onto win a final was St.Kilda in 2020

The last time we beat a team who would go onto play in Grand Final was Richmond in 2019 (who also won the GF)

Iirc, after the Laidley era, we beat all of Hawthorn, Sydney, Freo, and West Coast in either their Grand Final years or years adjoining their Grand Final years. We then proceeded to have the most baffling QT scoreline ever seen in 2017 against the future Grand Finallists. We can't just erase a coach's tenure because we don't like him ffs

Just masters of upsets in general, I think. This current crop are virtuosos too, but of upset rather than upsets

Yep - Under the current regime, winning games of football is simply a bonus. As long as the club is a safe environment & inclusive, providing support in the community & engaging its fans on social media, anything more than that is really just icing on the cake.

And the SCARY thing is - we have invested heavily in our midfield to the stage where the club suggested it was "sorted".

Dead-set laughable. We have pinned our future midfield on 3 guys who can't kick - LDU, Jy & Wardlaw.....Of which 2 are on long-term career contracts.

And the kicker is, we don't have a first round pick in this years draft.

But as I said yesterday, reading NM socials, the club has plenty of stars on its list:

Sheezel was being compared to N Daicos 6 weeks ago.
P Curtis is a "superstar".
Larkey should be multiple AA.
Xerri is the best ruckman in the AFL.
Wardlaw is heart & soul. Future captain.
Powell is an A Grade mid with really clean hands. Some of his inside work is "frightening"
LDU's inside work is elite.

And then RHJ was setting the house on fire after his huge preseason.
Z Duursma took a hangar so you know he is an elite talent.
Darling's addition would free-up Larkey (yeah, that's going well)

It's all just absolute drivel.

Again, if you want to know how good we are, just check the ladder - it tells you in plain English. We are the 2nd worst team in the competition. With a bottom 3 finish locked in this year.

Buy a reserved seat in a Members Area and have a bunch of toothless ferals around you laughing at you about how easy the game is. The 'entertainment' is watching some bozo miss a set shot from 30m dead in front - and at quarter time you also get to see a member of the crowd do it too. Late in the game we get to sing and dance to a song which was daggy 30 years ago as the guy who chose the song and otherwise hasn't had a kick all day, slots through a Joe the Goose to reduce the margin to 40 points. And, we're encouraged to "Make Some Noise" after a goal - however, this is rarely heard in the second half of games as it only happens if the score is close.

I remember reading the footy record as a kid and we had 50-50 records in all time head to heads against a few clubs like Sydney/Dogs/St Kilda and a winning record over Freo, Port, Adelaide.

Not sure we have a single club now that we have beaten more often than we have lost to.

They are trash and it's been nearly 10 years!

Don't worry about upsetting the top sides. This wasn't the game we should be beating ourselves up about.

How did we lose to all of Sydney, Carlton, Port and Essendon?? They've all played garbage football this year and are going to finish in the zone where we were aiming at. Yet we're 0-4 against them with two thrashings.

We should being eyeing off games like these as wins, with an upset against a top side as a bonus. But we're still jizzing over beating dribblers like the Tigers by a couple of points.
