Urgent!!!! Ipod is broken!!!!

I'm absolutely shattered...

When I pulled up at gym, I pulled my Ipod out of my FM transmitter and popped it into my headphones..

Suddenly, there was no sound coming out of my left headphone..

As soon as I got home I stuck my mum's headphones in... No sound from the left headphone again..

For reference it's an Ipod Touch. 8gb. Between a year and a year and a half in age.. And it has been used and used and used non stop since I got it.. And dropped a few times..

Is it fixable? What do I do?

(please someone tell me that I accidently hit some software setting in changing it over and I can just switch it back on..)

Try not plugging the headphone all the way into the headphone jack and just fiddle around with it until you get sound from both earphones, seems to work msot of the time in this situation.

First & foremost, get your left ear checked.

i lol'd

Both my ear and the headphones work just fine.

It's definitely a problem within the Ipod.

I worry that too much in/out with the headphone jack has caused some damage.. :(

mate, it's chilling when something goes wrong with your ipod and you think it's broken.
i usually end up reformatting mine via itunes, after saving everything of course, and every time it's come back fine.

try and get some feedback/static through the left ear. Presuming the headphones themselves are fine, then the next step is the ipod connection. Do you have another pair of headphones to test on?

First thoughts are it's an issue with the connection - only outputting in mono instead of stereo. As a previous poster said, try playing around with how deep the connection is (put it all the way in, then slowly withdraw).

If you find that at some point you get full sound, well "There's your problem".

Go back to your car and test the FM transmitter.

I had a problem with my piece of shit Mac where I unplugged the headphones and the computer thought they were still plugged in. Had to keep plugging/unplugging till it figured itself out.

Best case scenario your ipod confused itself when you unplugged the FM unit. If the touch has a master reset do that too.

If I hold the connection in - Just before the *CLICK* to secure them, i have sound through both speakers, but once I *CLICK* the connection in to secure the connection the sound drops out.

So I guess I need to get the connection fixed. It is definitely the ipod and not the headphones.

Where should I go? Apple shop?

It's a small device mate no matter how expensive it is they could die in 6 months to 5-10 years depending on the treatment or even moisture and how much you use it.

You said you dropped it a few times mate even dropping it once could have damaged it a bit and now it's playing up.

Most of these things are probably guaranteed to last a couple of years for the average user unless your one of those people who rap it up in cotton wool like gold and last 5 years or more.
