Which would have been 100 times better without the stupid tie-breaker!

The classic match at the AO will be remembered more, last year's Wimbledon final, the Roddick- El An, etc. What have all these in common..well you guessed it..NO TIE BREAKERS to decide a final set!:thumbsu:

I can't believe I'm agreeing with you, but you're right. I can't believe the ITF even allow them to have final set tiebreakers, typical yanks do everything for TV, the sport comes second.

Does anyone know if Davis and Fed cup have final set tiebreaks?

Lol at Novak's dad wearing a t-shirt with a picture of him on it.

Would like to see Zvonareva win the US Open. Apart from the crying, I just like how she plays, she seems like a nice girl too.

Time for Djokovic to grow a pair and show that you need more than just talent to make the final. Show some heart, surely he can't be content with making semis for the rest of his career

edit: i can't believe people would defend the no tiebreaker in the 5th rule at the us open... boring old geezers

I don't really care whether a tiebreaker is or isn't used in the 5th, but it's annoying when people that despise it claim they do because they're traditionalists. If you were a true traditionalist, why don't you complain about tiebreakers being used in the other sets? Tennis was played without them for a long time.

You must have been living under a rock these past few years. Djokovic shows a great amount of heart and passion when playing.

He gets fired up but he has a consistent knack of going into his shell when the heat is on at the business end of the slams.

I'm actually a Djokovic fan, but a bloody frustrated one at that. With his talent he should be making slam finals.

As for tiebreakers, a bit stupid to compared the 5th set to the 4th/3rd/2nd/1st sets. The 5th set is at the end of the match. If we let it go in the earlier sets, there'd be no point of having sets at all, and we'd play one continuous set (which would then mean a very short match more often than not, ie 6-4/7-5/8-6). A 5th set means that the two blokes have gone two sets all for a number of hours and the match has gone down to the absolute wire. Why end the match prematurely for no reason? The earlier sets had to be abruptly ceased by a tiebreaker for the purposes of sets existing in the first place. The 5th set decides the match as there is no further possibility - let them play it out until one of them actually holds and breaks serve (or vice versa).

nadal takes it 7-5 breaking verdas on his serve to love... I hope it don't happen but rafa will probably take this in straight sets now.

rafa 2 sets to 0 and 4-2 up in the 3rd allll overrrrr

Vera played really well this morning, I actually give her a shot against Kim in the final providing she doesn't have a meltdown. Actually, scrap that, Kim will win. I think Kim has lucky to get through to the final the way she has, really venus and Sam could of both won their match against her. I think Venus has blown her last shot at winning the US Open. Pretty messy match they had this morning.

2010 US Open: Men's Sem Final Predictions -

0F9A7D572A624F5981456F9699418AC4.ashx

SF1: 2] Roger Federer vs. 3] Novak Djokovic (Head to Head - Federer leads 10-5)

Well what a match this promises to be. Arguably the most anticipated match thus far at the 2010 US Open. It's World No. 2 Roger Federer up against World No. 3 Novak Djokovic. Both, especially Djokovic are in super form at Flushing Meadows. Both came through their Quarter Final matches with comfortable wins (both in straight set). While Djokovic's US Open campaign did start slowly, he's kicked it right into gear the last three to four matches. One part of his game that is noticeably better than usual is the Djokovic serve, and it's going to be crucial to his success in the match tomorrow. As for Federer, he's come through the draw with ease and really, if he's to come up against Nadal in the Final, this is the best preparation you're going to get. These two players have met 15 times before, with Roger Federer leading the head to head 10-5. This will also be the fourth consecutive year that these two have played at the US Open. So far Federer leads their US Open meeting 3-0 as well. Most things point in the favour of Federer, and I do like him to progress to the Final. But make no mistake about it, Novak Djokovic (who has really impressed me these last 10 days), is going to push the Swiss champion the entire way. Federer in 5.

SF2: 1] Rafael Nadal vs. 12] Mikhail Youzhny (Head to Head - Nadal leads 7-4)

When the US Open started there were many questions about Rafael Nadal. Questions like could he finally win the only Grand Slam that alluded him? Could he win three Grand Slams in one year and be on target to win THE Grand Slam (holding possession of all four Grand Slams). Could he play at a high enough level on his least favourite surface and beat guys from the baseline, instead of standing well behind. As for Mikhail Youzhny, despite his No. 14 world ranking, I don't think many thought he would make the Semi Finals this year. But so far, he's equaled not only his best Grand Slam performance ever, but also his best US Open performance ever (Youzhny also made the Semi Finals in 2006, losing to Andy Roddick). He's also a former top 10 player, reaching a career high World No. 8 ranking in early 2008. As said at the top, the two have met on eleven occasions, with Nadal leading 7-4, however, they haven't played each other since Wimbledon 2008. They've also met in Grand Slams for times, with Nadal leading 3-1, however, Youzhny beat Nadal in the Quarter Finals of the 2006 US Open. For me, while this match will be very tough for Nadal, he's going to go to his first US Open Final ever. I just think he's playing extremely well, he's serving (much like Djokovic) better than I've seen him serve for some time and Youzhny is coming off a tough five set win over Wawrinka in the Quarter Finals. Nadal in 3.

Federer in 4
Nadal in 4

Somebody will stuff this up and we won't get the Federer-Nadal final of course, although I think Djokovic has much more of a chnace of beating Federer,a s long as he mans up and plays the tennis he's capable of. Youzhny is going to ahve gone all guns blazing, just got to go into match knowing he has beaten Rafa here before he can do it again.

I really hope Djokovic can get the monkey of his back by defeating Federer tonight.

Nadal will be champion before the final even begins if Federer and Djokovic play a grueling match tomorrow. Why does the US Open persist with Super Saturday? Well, I know why ($$$) ... but no day break between the semis and the final is ****ing ridiculous. Hopefully both matches last roughly the same time, which should leave no room for excuses after the big one.
