I don't understand the point of it being embrassing, he's still has made 2 quarters and a semi this year along with the AO title, he can contiune for however long he wants. He doesn't have that many points to defend to the end of the year so as long as he plays Shanghai and does decently and then decently in Paris and London he should gain points before AO next year limiting the damage somewhat.

Pete sampras knew his time was coming to an end.He retired with pride, winning the US open.If Federer wanna go the way of Edberg or Mcenrore let him.He will be out of top 4 by the end of Aussie Open. Not only he will find it hard to gain ground from there, but he will be facing the likes of Nole, Rafa, Muzza in the quarterfinals.I am sure if you appreciate that he is a champion, he needs to bow out like a champion. He was absolutely horrible and the match went to 5 sets thanks to Djokovics choking at the end of the 1st set and 3rd set.Fed is now starting to lose a lot of sets 6-1 and 6-0 which never happened before.I was shot down in flames when i suggested he should retire this year.If he is not able to make the finals of Aussie open, he might as well consider that.

Vamos Rafa. Win all 4 slams and show everyone that they shouldn't just say Federer is the greatest of all time. Don't think Rafa is but always want him to win because apart from being my fav player, it makes people less likely to just base everything on statistics.
Djokovic stayed agressive and got the win. This time it was a bit different because Fed was winning but Federer never takes the match on when it gets close in slams. Just waits for his opponent to choke under the pressure (does a great job of defending and putting it in awkward spots though). To be the best of all time you need to beat champions and I just dont think Federer had anyone to beat during his dominance. Beat Rafa a couple of times as a young clay court specialist on grass but other than that not enough to be the best of all time in my humble opinion.

Hopefully the final will be close and worth getting up for.

absolutely spot on! thats the point i was trying to hammer home in the past few years.Very lucky to win those wimbledon beating a 20 year old Rafa trying to figure out how to play on grass.Roger was lucky that rafa is injury prone and guys like Nole, Delpo and Muzza arent ready yet! (they were only 22 in january this year, give them a break). A great record yes, but lucky to dominate the worst transition period in open era.His biggest rivals being Hewitt, Roddick a 33 year old Agassi, Henman, Johansson, Safin and a very young Rafa. Not good enough. He is also yet to beat Rafa in his prime...got embarassed losing to Rafa on his favourite surface, after he struggled to beat him the year before and got absolutely spanked at F.O

2010 US Open: Men's Final

1] Rafael Nadal vs. 3] Novak Djokovic

(Head to Head - Nadal leads 14-7)

After 13 days of brilliant tennis, we've arrived at the final day of competition for the 2010 US Open. It's the Men's Final, the main course of the two week meal, and what a match it promises to be. Rafael Nadal is into his first US Open Final having never gotten past the Semi Finals before. Novak Djokovic is into his second US Open Final having made the Final in 2007 (losing to Roger Federer).

While Nadal has come through his draw with relative ease (he hasn't dropped a set), Djokovic has had two tough matches. It took him five sets to take care of fellow Serbian Victor Troicki in the 1st Round, and then in the Semi Finals he beat 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in a thrilling five setter having come back from two sets to one down and also two match points in the 5th Set. He also has played some of his best tennis for a long time, you'd probably have to go back to the 2008 Australian Open (which Djokovic won) for the last time he's played so well.

The two have met on 21 occasions, with Nadal boasting a 14-7 lead, however, Djokovic has won the last three times that the two have played, all of which have been on hard court. In Grand Slams though, they've met four times with Nadal leading 4-0. On current form though, as good as Djokovic is playing, you've got to favour the World No. 1 Rafael Nadal.

There's plenty at stake for both players in this match. While Djokovic has cost marketers their dream Final, this is still as good as it gets. Nadal is bidding to win his 9th Grand Slam, and surely by winning the 2010 US Open, the argument that he's the greatest player of all time ahead of Roger Federer will continue to be talked about. As for Djokovic, he's only won one Grand Slam (Australian Open 2008) and will be hoping to add to that. Not only that, but winning the 2010 US Open will give him even more breathing space when it comes to the Rankings, and the possibility of A) jumping to World No. 2 by winning the Final (not sure on this though), B) giving him more breathing space in ranking points to his other rivals, most notably Andy Murray and C) A second Grand Slam would put him well ahead of probably his biggest rival, Andy Murray who is yet to win a Grand Slam.

Prediction: There's no doubt this will be a cracking match. Anyone that doubts Djokovic, doubt him at your peril. He's playing some fantastic tennis as was evidenced against Roger Federer in the Semi Finals and also don't count out some possible nerves for Nadal in the 1st Set as he's never played in a US Open Grand Slam Final before. In saying that, based on how they're both playing, I give the edge to Rafael Nadal. I think he wins his 9th Grand Slam, and his first ever US Open title.

2 of my favourite men too :D .Isnt it great that we are finally starting to see non-Fed slam finals? :D :thumbsu: .

Terrific.

What a match up we've been "blessed" with.

In one corner a bloke who, while fun to watch with his top spin and cranky Spaniard 'tude, will be remembered as the straw to break the camel's back for the once unique and diverse game of tennis, sparking a line of fitness freaks, and ultimately taking the circuit away from the realm of the unpredictable. No longer will a 17 year old upstart with a racket and a dream be able turn the world upside down by shocking the top dog, for like so many other sports it will place a greater value on the physical than on the individual's ability, and therein will lose its identity. Aspiring young tennis payers in 2030 will watch archived footage of Sampras approaching the net and be seeing something they've never encountered in a game situation before. Absolutely bloody tragic, and we have weightlifter Nadal to thank.

In the other corner we have a soft, pathetic bitch. He rents his chest cavity out to squirrels in the winter because there's nothing occupying it. He'd rent it out all year round if animals needed the storage space, or if his old season dresses and handbags didn't need packing away. He has a well rounded game - great forehand, good backhand, lethal drop shot and he has real power on both sides. The main weakness in his game is natural light. Focus on consistency, force him into a day match, and after a couple of injury timeout glute massages he yields.

Whoever wins, it's bad for tennis. Not what tennis fans would've been hoping for. My tip: the bitch in 4. It's cloudy.

Looks like we're gunna have to wait another 24 hours. It's been pissing down in New York all day. We wouldn't have this problem at the Aussie Open

We also wouldn't have this problem if the USTA wasn't short sighted and all they could think of "Let's build the biggest tennis stadium in the world." The other day when I was listening to the US Open radio commentary the commentator said that apparently the USTA looked into a roof and it would cost more than than it cost to build the stadium itself. The stadium is only 13 years old FFS, RLA had had a roof for 10 years, at least they could've built the thing so a roof would be a viable option in the future. Apparently the players also look like ants from the top level. The USTA are ****ing dumb organisation.

US open is a ****ing joke.Nothing less than that.I agree with you, lets build a 40k stadium but hey, dont build a roof, specially when you have 2 finals washed out in the last 2 years. A monday finals is not the same, people have work..schools etc...they cant even watch it on TV.When will these people learn? If Rafa loses tomorrow, i know who to blame. He had the match in the bag, but it looks like Nole should roll easily now

Not to mention the Jets are playing MNF tonight. I wonder if that will affect the gate/ratings?!

While we're bashing the USTA, I really don't understand their scheduling. Year after year, barring the occasional freak summer flooding, the Aussie Open seems to have scheduling down to a tee. Every player generally gets a day off in between matches.

Where as at the US Open, you've still got second round matches being played on the first Friday! Then you have the mens semi finals on Saturday, and then the finalists have to come slog it out less than 24 hours later. What the?!?

At the Aussie Open generally the Ladies semi's are on the Thursday arvo, followed by one blokes semi that evening and the other on the Friday evening. Seems like much better tournament management to me and keeps the players as fresh as possible for the final.

I reckon...

Get a roof you dumb yanks!!!

Just switched over to weather channel over here and it looks like it's a short, but nasty, storm. Once it passes we should be good by the sounds of it :thumbsu:

rafa is the one who is getting screwed again...just when he had the momemtum it rains again. After lasts night crap i really thought we had enough, but no no. Congrats US open, you are now officially the worst grandslam out there.

what i dont understand is why did they schedule it at 4 pm? it was predicted thunderstorms around 6 pm.If it was scheduled at 2 pm it would have been done and dusted by now.Seriously how about shit for brains dumb yanks  .If it wasnt for rafa, i wouldnt give two hoots about this whole circus.

It's because they are so hellbent on playing and scheduling the sport around TV and a day final would probably not be "cool", its like they think day events don't provide an atmosphere. As much as we bag the likes of 7 here, at least they don't determine the scheduling.
They really are ****ing around with the sport, the ITF should step in because this thing is supposed to be a GS. I'm surprised they even have the men play 5 sets, I'm sure they'd prefer that they didn't.

anyone know how to get around the usopen.org stream? You can only watch if you're in the states. I'm worried about going into another stream because I went into one a few weeks ago and I think it ****ed up the computer
