Watching the replay and she's just letting Duval hit her off the court, hitting balls right back to her and slicing the stupidest shots. If that's how poorly she plays without a coach...wow.

Still pretty pissed off to be honest. Was downright ordinary and will go down as one of her worst losses ever. 2013 is a write off, just get a good coach, train hard and then we start off with a new slate in 2014. The game is still there.

Sure, Stosur was awful, but I actually thought Duval didn't play anywhere near as bad as a world number 293. She made some good shots. Yes her serve is weak, but Stosur's isn't the most consistent even on the best of days. I've seen a lot worse standard of tennis on the WTA tour than what I saw this morning...

Actually, upon reflection I saw a better form of tennis being played watching my dog chase and maul a ball at the park this arvo than a lot of the crap going through the women's ranks at the moment...

Agreed. I'm not the biggest fan of women's tennis at the best of times, but it seems that every time I turn it on now I see either a) Serena taking the piss out of everyone, b) good players underachieving, or c) bullshit players winning tournaments. I mean Bartoli is a grand slam champion for ****'s sake! That's an embarrassment. They better hope the next generation - Keys, Barty, Duval, Robson, Vekic etc - brings some excitement back into the sport, because it's going downhill fast.

Hewitt in 4, not very convincing at all but got the win like he does. Was so very cautious throughout, just waiting for errors and Baker still not completly right made them. Hope he kicks it up a few gears against Del Potro who also wasn't great today.

Nothing wrong with Bartoli winning a slam, no worse than Stosur or Schiavone winning one.
The WTA's trough in recent years was 2010, when Wozniacki and Zvonareva were #1/#2, right now it's gradually climbing back up and it will be better in a few years in my opinion.

Jankovic is a top 10 player and is capable of beating anyone these days. She's one of not many capable of really challenging Serena.

It's more the way she won it - she beat Svitolina, McHale, Giorgi, Knapp, Stephens, Flipkens and a completely out of sorts Lisicki. If you said someone beat those players to win a tournament, I'm guessing most people who didn't know it was her Wimbledon draw would think it was a pretty average tournament. When a player is winning slams with that kind of run, the sport's in a bad place in my opinion.
Yeah, no arguments here with that. It's been downhill for a while, but it is starting to pick up. It's just hard to see who's going to step up other than the usual suspects.
