It's more the way she won it - she beat Svitolina, McHale, Giorgi, Knapp, Stephens, Flipkens and a completely out of sorts Lisicki. If you said someone beat those players to win a tournament, I'm guessing most people who didn't know it was her Wimbledon draw would think it was a pretty average tournament. When a player is winning slams with that kind of run, the sport's in a bad place in my opinion.
Yeah, no arguments here with that. It's been downhill for a while, but it is starting to pick up. It's just hard to see who's going to step up other than the usual suspects.
You take what you can get, I suppose, she made a Wimbledon final 6 years before too. Lisicki winning would've made for a better storyline, no doubt.
