I cant remember someone looking so focussed and unperturbed under pressure. He was so clutch in serving out to win in these finals matches.

Don't want to take anything away from Stan, but he was looking shaky even when Nadal got injured. Nadal got a set off him.

Cilic was complete blitzkrieg out there.

An ultimate demonstration of mental toughness. The perfectly played final. Would have shaken up anyone standing at the other side of the net I reckon.

Unfair to compare the 2 matches. Stan played Nadal arguably one of the best of all time. Cilic played Nishikori in his first slam final.

Yeah but with a broken back - Stan was having trouble dealing with the drop in intensity when Nadal was hurting

Nishikori beat 4 top 10 players on his way to the final

Aside from Murray being out of the top 10, the second best news Ive heard all day is that CBS wont be covering the US Open anymore, and is handing it over to ESPN! Bring on Robbie Koenig (I hope)!!!!

i note with interest that both winners lay on the court after the winning point. is this compulsory as noted on The Back Page?
I guess it is the instant relief or exhilaration of winning a gs title. I don't mind it as a celebration. I understand it was serenas 18th, but she has had a pretty tough year (for her anyway) and she would have felt a huge relief winning no.18 to tie with Navratilova and evert.

I worry to think what I would do if I won a grand slam. It would almost certainly involve an erection

Doesn't mean a thing for us. Probably a bad thing for American tennis given there's no FTA exposure in America. We'll still get the terrible world feed

Congrat to Cliic, strange to say he's a slam champion but he was the best played this tournament, his performance in the last two matches was rather clinical.

Im more of an Aggie Radwanska guy personally mmm mmm

It is weird to say that Cilic is a GS winner, but it's good for the game. The grip of the top guys is certainly lessening. Nadal's body keeps betraying him, Andy has self-destructed, Novak looks human and Fed is slowly declining.
