That match was as expected as a match between Brown and Tomic as you would think. Just two players doing god knows what but Bernie doing it a bit better. He served well though.

Marinko down two sets to love, he's playing ok but falling apart when it gets to 3-3 as he may actually be mentally worse on a tennis court than I am.

Didn't see the whole match, but Tomic sort of did what he had to do to win, wasn't pretty but he'll have bigger tests in the next few rounds.

I thought Tomic did well to compose himself in the closing stages. He was clearly struggling with his quad/hip/something so looked to close the points out more quickly for a few games, force it to the tiebreaker, then use the energy/pain tolerance he'd conserved to push through it and run hard in the tiebreaker. People with a grudge against Tomic will be quick to criticise him for "tanking" a couple of games in that third set I'm sure, but it was smart. If Brown won that set Bernie was in big trouble; forcing the tiebreaker without exerting himself too much was the right thing to do.

I think it was a legitimate injury; when Tomic 'pulls a Bernie' he limps when he does something poor and looks fine when he does something good - he was sore after every point from about mid-way through that third. I think it was just a cramp but even so.

If it is cramp, I have to say this...'is he fit'. You shouldn't be cramping in 3 relatively easy sets in the first round. Has he played enough tennis lately?

He's never been the fittest guy around and he's had a year that's been interrupted pretty severely by hip injury/surgery. Has played a bit of tennis over the past two months but not a whole lot. Brown makes you run a lot too - very strange player. It's not ideal that he cramps within three sets but I don't think it's too much to worry about. Will be better for the run.
