Yes but it is the serve bots with movement that trouble him. Raonic is a lug, he just serves and does diddly squat, Novak takes it to a tie breaker and wins straight. won't beat Novak over 5 sets with just a serve. Someone like Stepanek always troubles Novak as when he has to hit a lot of passing shots under pressure he struggles. Federer should do this against Novak- it is his only chance, he won't beat Novak from the baseline.
Agree. Fed's forehand against Novak's backhand is pointless so a baseline slug won't really work in his favour. It's definitely the net play that has won him matches against Novak. He's just so damn clean at the net and forces Djokovic to go for a crazy passing shot.

Yep and it plays into Novak's hands. The 2 sets he played well in the Wimbledon Final he serve volleyed...the 3 he lost he stayed back. He is sort of a reluctant volleyer. Hewitt is the same and he would have won more Slams had he volleyed more.

Novak hates not being able to grind people, by coming in you are forcing novak to hit a winner or make an error, there is no next shot.

Hate to say it, but Novak's passing shots, backhands down the line, backhands cross-court etc. have been pathetic lately. Just think back to 2011 and 2012 when he'd regularly make them with ease.

He's spent a lot of time at the net with Boris, but I really think it's pointless. He just looks super awkward when he plays the volleys. Most of his volleys also have no purpose, just hit back into play.

The worst thing is he does for that dinky cross court rubbish that he misses 8/10...yet when he goes down the line he makes them! In 2011-12 he used to do down the line with the winners and he was so good at them. It is almost like Novak feels he has to add variety for the sake of adding variety

I'm pretty happy at the moment. Novak and Marin have been among my 10 favourite active players for a few years now, and Nishikori and old Federer would be very close as well. I can't lose. It's so wonderful when Nadal, Berdych, Del Potro and your token French player don't make the SFs. I can just sit back and enjoy the tennis, instead of stressing over results (also helps that my fave Ferrer is already out as well).

Out of interest why don't you like Nadal?

Oh no particular reason, I just don't like him as much as some other players. I don't really hate any players, but out of the top 10 regulars, I have warmed least to Berdych and Nadal over the years.
But I still recognise what a legendary competitor he has been over the years, lot of respect.

Wow - can't believe Fed saved match points. Will watch the replay tonight after the footy. I can't see him winning the title, but it's great to see him still fighting deep in slams at this stage of his career. Who knows? Maybe it could be the get out of jail match he needed (ala Andreev 2008 USO, Haas 2009 RG and Benneteau 2012 Wimbledon).

Embarrassing. How a 7 time grand slam champ can be so up and down at crucial stages is beyond me.
