Off the top of my head Im 95% sure Fed beat Del Potro in their last two meetings at the world tour finals and in Paris. And Del Potro is a fantastic shot maker. So wrong - again.
Not once did I mention Del Potro beating him. I know he beat him - past two times in fact. Look back at the matches and you'll see my point. Del Po was hitting him off the court for 85% of the time in those matches.

I didn't say Del Po was a poor shot maker, Cilic is just more solid off both wings.

The one top female player I cannot stand is Sharapova. But serena is a legend of the sport and doesn't get anywhere near the credit of RF.

Yes we all hear how sw has only dominated women's tennis and her opponents are mental short people. Even if it was true, it is irrelevant. SW has been at the top for almost 15 years and beaten everyone from steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martian hingis, Lindsay davenport, Venus Williams, justine henin, Kim clijsters, Maria Sharapova, Victoria azarenka, maurezmo, Safina, ivanovic and whoever else I haven't listed.

I used to HATE Serena two years ago - but the stats don't lie - she's and out and out champion, and in my opinion GOAT

+1 here. Serena and Fed are GOAT respectively, lucky to be witnessing them.
I am over the hate for Serena Williams. Every time she does something wrong the media are all over her. If she does something right you never here of it. She doesn't seem like a bad person and is actually friends with many of the players on the WTA tour. Wozniacki clearly has a lot of respect for her. Granted she hates losing and can be a sore loser at times but that attitude is what has made her so successful and determined.
But you won't hear that from the media here in Australia. All you will hear is 'serena said she lost because she wasn't playing well' 'serena smashed her racket today, serena sweared and yelled at the umpire on the rare occasion she does these things. It is an absolute disgrace IMO. I know she is not Australian and we have a dislike for american sportspeople but its running an agenda and disrespect to the greatest player the game has seen.

Doesn't help she acted like a complete moron the year Sammy won it and the other incidents (foot fault against Clijsters). Australians really remember those incidents more than anything else. Look at all the crap Lleyton got (has somewhat recovered now) I get it, she comes across as insincere a lot of time and quite. This is coming from a guy who was cheering for her when she won the French Open last year, completely respect her game, but I get the hate though.

Huge credit for Serena winning a US Open title 15 years after her first one. I was 10 when she first won it. Christ.

Cilic isn't just a big hitter. He does everything else well. Just look at what Del Potro does to Fed when they play.

Needs to be on fire to win, but I guess if you're doing that in a US Open semi (or final in Del Potro's case) then I wouldn't be complaining.

What time does the Final start tomorrow (Perth time)? Don't want to watch all the pre-match shit.

7am. FS3 I assume. Watch the first hour before work and ignore all news for the rest of the day...

Umm, sure you were watching the same match as me? Federer lost the first 6-4, won a tie-breaker, then was down 3-1 in the last. Del Po just couldn't capitalise on his chances to go further ahead (like he did against Fed in Basel 2012/2013 and WTF in 2012.

Exactly. Both guys have shown they can hit him right off the court. Regardless of the final result, sometimes. All it takes is a few points to go wrong and the set is gone before they know it. Happened to Del Po way too many times when he faced Roger.

Of course, when you have weapons like those two, there's always a chance they'll catch fire and win . But 5-15 and 1-5 records show there is more too it than that.

Of course there is. My point from the start was that they're capable of doing it. Cilic managed to do it for the whole match.

She seems to have completely changed her demeanour in recent years - sort of like Lleyton. Seems so mentally focussed and calm. And a lot less brash and exuberant. Pat Mouratoglou effect maybe?

Watching the replay of the women's final and Ive concluded something. I would fingerbang Wozniacki for a month. Shes hot.

Serena's career has truly been an amazing thing to behold. I must be the same age, as I was also 10 when she shocked with her premature win in 1999. I wouldn't quite say she is the GOAT though, at least not outright yet. She is in the discussion, but Graf and Navratilova in recent-ish times were both outstanding over a long period of time too, and arguably had a firmer grip on No.1 than Serena had (even if mainly due to injury and the like). But I guess that's what makes Serena so great, as there have certainly been times where you felt she could win the slam on one leg.

I think the doubles careers of Serena and Navratilova make their overall legacy rather scary. There is nothing which even remotely compares to that in Men's tennis (over the same period).

Been a decade since the last one, or 38 slams. Ridiculous.
And even then it was two former slam winners/no.1 players (Safin/Hewitt). Even Coria/Gaudio involved the two of the premier clay players of the time (particularly afterwards for Gaudio), and Coria would have just about been the favourite heading into that slam. Prior to that, you probably have to go back to the 1997 USO, which had no former GS finalist and only one seed (13).

Serena is an amazing player and is definitely up there as the GOAT of women's tennis. She is an amazing athlete- you only have to see her up close and see why she is so dominant. She is HUGE. I would say her quads would be bigger than almost all mens players (serious). As a physical specimen she is so far ahead of anyone else in the womens game. Athletically, she is like a man. IMO she will surpass Graf barring early retirement. She doesn't seem like she wants to retire soon. Physically she can still go on for a bit, but it's more mental with Serena. At times I feel like she gets 'bored' and it becomes too easy for her.

Going to be an interesting match tomorrow. Who would've thought. I never thought Nishikori would be in a slam final- he's got a massive chance to win it now. Last year he exited first round of the US Open, this year he's potentially the winner, how bizarre. Michael Chang has done a brilliant job with him though and is an absolute perfect fit as a coach to Nishikori- their games are extremely similar.

How much Cilic paying before the tournament to win? would have been juicy odds!

Congratulations to Cilic. Just seemed to be zoning the whole two hours.

Anyone kind of get the feeling that last year's drug controversy is the elephant in the room?

So happy for Marin, what a comeback after the career threats of 2013. Also progressed through QF-SF-F really comfortably, all in straights, so fully deserves it. Finally delivers on the career promise he was showing up until early 2010.

It's great to see guys like Stan and Marin that have hung around the top 16 for so long finally making that progression in their game to take out a slam.

I cant remember someone looking so focussed and unperturbed under pressure. He was so clutch in serving out to win in these finals matches.

Don't want to take anything away from Stan, but he was looking shaky even when Nadal got injured. Nadal got a set off him.

Cilic was complete blitzkrieg out there.

An ultimate demonstration of mental toughness. The perfectly played final. Would have shaken up anyone standing at the other side of the net I reckon.
