At least Murray lost that is the good news.

At the end of the day, novak did well to make the final while he wasn't anywhere near his best.

Congratulations to the winner, worked through the tough part of the draw, the accolades should go to him.

Always a bit meh about the US Open personally though, just isn't the same feel about it, maybe it is the time it is on, maybe it's the tie breakers in the last, not sure.

Murray has won a lot more masters 1000 and has been world no.2 for a fair bit. I'm just annoyed that Wawrinka will have to be put ahead of Hewitt now

I'm not, Wawrinka is better, just a better game- serves better, hits winners accross both wings. Has won Slams in a tougher era, Hewitt was able to feast in between era's (Sampras era/start of Federer) and managed just 2. I mean who did he have to beat?

I dislike Wawrinka personally, but he deserves to be ahead of Hewitt!

Yeah. Masters is 1 for Stan and 12 for Murray.

I am not saying Stan is better. I just found it interesting. We all consider slams as the only thing which matters but the reality is vastly different.

ON GRASS.

That is Wawrinka's worst surface by far.

Glad he's ahead of Hewitt. Hewitt should have had 5+ Slams as he only had to beat plodders when he was on top...bit different having to beat Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray to beating Nalbandian! The first 3 are greats of the game....Nalbandian is well 'solid' I guess.

This is coming from someone who can't stand Wawrinka one bit. He deserves to be rated where he is though, has proven it on 3 surfaces.

Well done stan. Deserved the title and was the better player today. As a novak fan I'm not even bothered. After the roland garros win I'm content with what he has achieved and anything from here is a bonus.

I love that a player has reached his peak late in his career. Stan is such a beautiful player to watch once he reaches the final stages of tournaments because he is in the zone.

Amazing how Stan can go from a standard top 20 player to a world beater whenever a slam rolls around. He's beaten the #1 ranked player 3 times (from 22 attempts) and all 3 were in slam finals. Gotta' say it would've been nice if Djokovic dished up one of these lacklustre performances against Federer in the last couple of years. At least 17 slams is probably safe now.

My man Stan! So happy for him. To be a 3 time GS champion is enormous from where he was 4 years ago.

I always loved his game but thought he was way too erratic and mentally would go off his game too much to even get to a semifinal of a GS let alone win 3 slam finals!

Krygios is great to watch when on but IMO nobody is more fun to watch than Stan when he is in the zone. Dat backhand.....

Well done champ.

Novak will recover. Aus Open is his again if he plays anywhere near his best.

On another note these 2 have a great rivalry. It's good to see another quality rivalry that doesn't involve 2 of the big 4.

I was hoping either Wawa or Murray would win the Open and I happy for STM, he battled hard whilst Novak got lucky as a couple of his opponents retired and he got a walkover. Stan needs to go and relax somewhere for a couple of weeks and enjoy the win. He did look stunned that he won.

As someone who just follows just the AO/Wimbledon. Stan Wawrinka's ascent to the top tier players is a remarkable development. I never got an impression prior to his AO win that he could elevate himself to that level.
Always had the great talent, something just clicked a few years back and he now when in the zone is the most clinical hitter and offensive beast in the game. More than capable of blasting the great players off the court, djokovic had no answers really.

Stan is like Kerber in that way. Both players do not give up on themselves anymore and know how to fight to the end. Stan is a beast, he is solid and not very tall for a tennis player and this helps him to have heavy ground shots. I also like the fact that he does not take himself too seriously and slips in the odd swear word every now and again when he is being interviewed.

That's the beauty isn't it, when on song he is the only player that just belts Novak off the court, and he doesn't change his approach either, he just goes down swinging when he loses which hasn't been too regular of late and the top guys can only hope he hasn't got his eye in!

If Fed had his backhand he would have won 35 majors!

And if Stan had Fed's mentality he would of won a lot more grand slams. The only thing that the two have in common is that they don't seem to get a lot of injuries. I hope I haven't jinxed Stan now.
