You are confusing depth with openness.

Take Nadal and Federer out of the mens draw and it would be wide open and unpredictable as we see with Thiem V Del Potro.

Would it however be stronger? Have greater depth? Would removing 34 slams add depth?

By way of comparison if we removed the Cavaliers and Warriors from the NBA finals would they have greater strength or depth or would they just be more open and unpredictable?

Add halep (world no2), Svitolina (world no4), Keys, Vandewegne, Ostapenko. It's an open and very exciting womens tournament. I hate using betting odds but the favourite for the women before the tournament was around the $6.50 range (Muguruza), the favourite in the men was $2.50...

I accept its competitive.

My quibble is with describing it as stronger or deeper than the mens draw which includes the two greatest ever players.

However not to worry what really matter is we seem to be a step closer to a Federer V Nadal.....possibly - indeed probably since surely Federer simply can't go on forever - the last in slams.
