Zverev will get out of this match with a win

BUT, it builds on the theory that he is still too young to cope with a grand slam and all its pressures and fatigue. especially if he gets taken to 4-5 sets.

Be interesting if the other bloke takes a set though or at least makes the match long.

I've taken a sneaky bet for King to win a set.

I was really hopong Kokkinakis would get a win. I don't think he has many injury protected tournament entries left. I think he just hasn't been playing enough matches as he has been trying to not over do it and maybe that was the difference.

I would say not only the lack of matches undid Kokkinakis but Tipsy's veteran experience got him over the line considering the kind of player he used to be.

Tipsarevic is having a Jordan Thompson-type career atm. Doing well at a few Challengers and scoring a win here and there on the ATP Tour.

As far as Kokk is concerned there are a number of $100K+ Challengers over the next few months. If he targets a couple of the right ones and do well in them he can pump up his ranking big time.

To be fair it is past midnight in NY and the top players do not need to be playing their absolute best until the fourth round.
true BUT the top top players win this 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Not take 1 hour and 20 mins in the first TB and having to save set points. He has looked tight. i dont think the withdraw of Murray/Nole has helped him and the pressure.

He should win this easy from now on. but he wont want to do this against Anderson/Gulbis in the 3rd round.

Watching this game via a TV that's like 200m away.

It would be an utter disgrace if Halep is number 1. Would be better for her if she isn't number 1. Focus on her game a bit. She's been playing safe tennis all year. a few years ago she was hitting winners, yet today she managed 14 winners in 3 sets! Lets not pretend Maria is this elite mover from side to side. Halep needs to get back to how she was playing 18 months ago.

Halep will finish with a Dementieva-type career (almost #1; almost GS champion) as opposed to say:
Myskina (almost #1; 1 time GS champion) or
Jankovic/Safina/Woz (#1, almost GS champion).

Such a shame Dementieva retired- would have won a bucket of Slams this year

I have a VPN but haven't been able to find a free option.

Apparently Eurosport player is down to around 10 euros for the us open, honestly it's worth it. Would be using it if ESPN wasn't every court on Foxtel.

Great win by Jordy, had a sneak feeling he could do it, all about the match up there and if Sock isn't playing well then he's spraying the ball a lot. Jordy doesn't have a lot but he's a grinder.

Gutted for Kokkanksis.

you aren't missing much. the commentators are taking more interest in the crowd rather than the match.

They have mentioned that the courts seem very slow. Miami slow. I hope the Aus Open will be quick once again this year.
Yeah I thought it was just me that thought the courts were very slow for the u.s , I watched nearly the whole tournament last year while on holidays.

The courts last year seemed much quicker than day 1. Looking at the court now with the roof on Arthur Ashe court it looks really slow. Isn't an indoor match meant to make the ball move quicker

I see Kyrgios is on the last match on Louis Armstrong Stadium on Day 2. It shows his drawing power given the Americans woukd see Millman as a journeyman.
Real problem with the rain about. Kyrgios will have to play 2 matches in 2 days if millman takes him to 4 or 5 than kyrgios will be almost guaranteed to Lose round 2

Looking at the radar looks at least another hour before rain stops so probably 2 more hours before play begins on outside courts making it a 4 hr delay even if kyrgios gets on court today it won't be till probably 9 or 10pm local time so not good for Nick

All outside courts cancelled for the rest of today 44 cancelled 11 in progress, thats 87 matches to be scheduled into day 3 to get the tournament back on track including the 32 already scheduled for tomorrow
