Fed scrapes over the line. Got broken as he tried to serve it out though. Even though Federer was well below his best I still thought this was a fun match to watch, very fast paced.

Tiafoe is American and the crowd is pro fed. What is going on here?
Is Tiafoe like Kyrgios?
Nah, crowds are just pro-Federer everywhere.

To this extent? I didn't realise.
I'm sure if Australia had a player we liked maybe Kok vs Fed, it wouldn't be completely 1 sided in Fed's favour?
That's an assumption of course but surely a correct one? Or is it?

Tennis is one of those sports generally where the top players transcend nationalism

I've seen it happen to the same extent against local players at the French Open. A long match against Gilles Simon a few years ago in particular. The crowds have become even more pro-Federer has he has gotten older and his legend has grown. It wasn't as vociferous when he was dominating the sport in the 2000s.

Crowds being against Federer isn't completely unheard of though. Davis Cup matches, London Olympics against Murray, USO encounters with Agassi and when he has taken on Nadal in Madrid to name a few.

I was at a first round match a couple of years back when Federer played Duckworth. The crowd was definitely on Federer's side although there was a bit of cheering for Duckworth once it was clear Federer was going to steamroll him in straight sets.

Tiafoe is the 8th ranked US player, Australia's 8th ranked player is JP Smith. The two week tennis fans that make up the majority of the crowd here wouldn't have a clue who JP is

Day 2 - Seeds Out

(6) Kerber - Defending 2000 (W) - Loses 1990 - Current Points: 3147
(28) Tsurenko - Defending 240 (4th) - Loses 230 - Current Points: 1395

Real problem with the rain about. Kyrgios will have to play 2 matches in 2 days if millman takes him to 4 or 5 than kyrgios will be almost guaranteed to Lose round 2

Yeah, seems silly that Kyrgios is playing doubles. I know he enjoys it but if he is going to go far in the tournament he needs to protect his body during the slams.

That's the rub isn't it. Considering the fragile nature of his body (and mind), the very thing he enjoys (doubles) hurts the very thing he is good at (singles).

Millman breaks! Damn, wish I could watch this match. Anyone watching? Is Nick out of sorts?

Nick failed with his 3 break points in the 1st set while John only needed 1.

The courts are slow. It favours Millman who chases and returns almost everything and extends the rally which Nick hates. Nick loses patience and hits an UE.
