Have read that 11 players are deemed to have had close contact with Benoit Paire. They are all still allowed to play in the tournament. I'm thinking that number of players is too high to not allow them to play the tournament.

If Sevastova was playing as she did in previous years, where she has done deep in this slam, I would disagree.
but she isnt, so I would have Gauff as well.

Maybe just me, but this is the most excited I've been about a us open in a long time. Working from home means I'll be able to wake up about 7, turn on the TV and put on the tennis. Then set up my laptop in front of the TV and work and watch the tennis simultaneously.

ESPN normally would show ESPN's feed on ESPN and Aussies on ESPN2 but because of so many american sports on atm it's pretty much going to be the ESPN feed on ESPN2. Looking forward to the early mornings.

Ridiculously easy quarter for Novak to ease into the tournament. Kyle Edmund would probably be the most likely player to beat him which says it all.
Isner hasn't won a set against him in the last 5 years.

I'm over Serena but like Gauff. I think Gauff would have been good for the tournament and the hype, impressive youngsters and changing of the guard is exciting. She's much, much better than a 1st round exit player but obviously just wasn't good enough today.

She's a nightmare opponent as she moves fairly well, her weakness is she goes to water too often, but this is a great result. She has a good draw as well. She's one of those "upset winners" that wouldn't be so shocking. Plays well at the US Open every year

you sounded a lot more confident last night. looking at the scores alone, it was a match which could have gone either way. I am more disappointed we are not going to see Gauff v Marta Kostyuk. Would have been a huge highlight.
Rybakina got a good win. You think she could be very dangerous if she continues her pre-lockdown form.

I'm happy Gauff lost, dead set can't stand the commentary. Over the hype train already. I did expect Gauff to win though got that one wrong, happens. There will be a lot of upsets round 1-2 this year, players are coming off weird preps.
Agree on Rybakina a very dangerous player for a seed.
I know it's round 1 but Kvitova looked spectacular
