A total over the top reaction. i reckon yeh. Its not as if the ball was a hard hit serve. I remember playing Brandy as a kid in school and getting hit in the head/neck area harder than that. And i was a scrawny kid .

that was the first one v Henin(?). Either way, It was against one of the Belgium players.

the 2nd was against Stosur where the umpire called her for disrupting the player after an early come on.

the one I am talking about is the 3rd one, where a lot of people accused Carlos of sexism and all those things ending with m, when he was just doing his job when her coach got called out for coaching.

geech, she has done a lot

It was against Clijsters not that it matters...

Still angry about the Stosur one. She was just pissed off that she was getting outplayed

Wouldn’t be surprised if she sued. That American mentality

Can see it now. Ongoing pain . Mental issues. Night terrors. Anxiety around tennis courts....

Ha. So let’s fine or default those that intentionally smash their racquets. That’s dangerous and or reckless. It was a silly silly thing to do. But like I said, he should’ve hit it into the empty stand or just at the net.
if you hurt an official in any dangerous act not relating to general play in any sport, you would be sent off or dismissed or whatever the rule is in that sport. Tennis is not special in that regard.

Novak didnt need to hit the ball backwards. He choose to, he hit an official and so he gets hit with the consequences. He was warned about this. it wasn't even the first time he did it in the match. This time, his luck run out.

every time you act out in anger, be it racquet or ball smash, or as Nalbandian found out, kicking an advertisement board, you play the odds that you hit someone and hurt them and you lose the match, points and prize money.

The right call was made to disqualify Djokovic. Obviously it was an accident, just like Shapovalov didn't mean to hit the chair umpire with his errant swing. But doesn't excuse from the fact of what happened.

If it was some no name player, same thing would have happened and there would be no fuss being made. There shouldn't be a different set of rules applied for top players and good to see they didn't cave in and applied the same treatment.

Not showing up to the press conference afterwards shows who the real Djokovic is, even Shapovalov fronted up after his indiscretion and owned his mistake.

But it did hit someone. In the neck.

But for his intentional, reckless hit of the ball, the damage would not have happened.

Every one of them she should have been defaulted, she was defaulted on NONE of them!

Umm, yeah they do. Players cop fines for smashing racquets and have been defaulted before for the same.

If he vented his frustration and hit it at the net, would have chanced his arm at hitting a ball boy and ball girl which would result in a DQ too (its happened before).

Its not like this is the first time this situation has ocurred.

First one and the last one should have been defaults at the least.

First one was on match point regardless

Last one I thought Carlos did the right thing according to the rules.

I dont even follow tennis. Sure , he lost his cool and is wrong for doing what he did, but that was a total overreaction on her behalf. Her actiing took her off court and in turn the rule came into effect. If she bounced straight up, held up her hand the crowd would have clapped and cheered..he woulda said sorry..maybe kissed her on the head like old mate did awhile back to the young girl and the match would have continued.
Have you ever been hit with a tennis ball on the throat?
