This piece of s*** laptop has me retype this three times; so annoying.

Hewitt has an ok draw, people say that because he has Federer in the 3rd round that it is a tough draw but with his seeding he will always face a top 8 player in the 3rd round, the bonus of being a seed is not facing one of these seeds in the first two rounds, it always going to get tough after that for Lleyton. His first two round matches are easy enough anyway so as long as he makes the 3rd round it’s ok. Anything past that is a bonus these days anyway.

Guccione has got a nice draw with the claycourter Cuevas in the first round, defiantly winnable and then Kollerer or Fish in the 2nd and with Fish playing with a cracked rib over the last few weeks he would be a shot against Fish too although he did squander match points a few weeks back in LA so you never really know with Guccione, wouldn’t be surprised if he bundled out first round in straight sets I wouldn’t be surprised.

Overall, yes the bottom half is loaded more than the top half but it’s probably made worse for Federer considering he has a fairly simple quarter, Robredo in the 4th and either Soderling or Davydenko in the QF where Fed has a huge H2H record against them. But as someone said considering he’s made 21 slam semis in a row, almost any draw is easy for him. Roddick must be wrapped he has Djokovic in his quarter again, although Djoko is picking form from Cincy and did beat him in a rowdy night match last year (how did Andy lose that fourth set I don’t know), anyway hoping they get to face each other again (just not the match on that Friday, I’ll be working). Murray has Gulbis in the first round, I would laugh if Gulbis was able to turn himself on but it won’t happen, has a fairly tough draw although he still should get through he first few matches without any trouble, Karlovic in the 3rd and Wawrinka/Cilic in the 4th round, not easy but shouldn’t give him too many problems. The match with Del Potro in the quarters can be very interesting, could depend on Del Potro’s fitness on 5 sets. Nadal faces possible one of the most dangerous floaters in the draw in Gasquet but Gasquet still seems to be working his way back, can’t see him giving too much trouble. Ferrer could give him trouble and memories of the same round, same place a few years back. Gonzalez/Tsonga in the quarters, unless one of them are one fire I can see Nadal making the semis. The question will be whether Nadal’s knees keep up, being smashed by Djokovic wasn’t a good sign (not a good matchup though). At the moment, have to go with the form player in Federer, no matter what the Federer haters say on this board, he’s favourite to win his 16th slam. See how that changes over the next two weeks.

On the women’s side, Stosur has an ok draw as well, first two rounds are easy enough, hopefully Hantuchova is still playing bad in the third and then the matchup with Serena in the 4th. I can’t see Sam beating Slam Serena, she’ll step it up a level Sam can’t get to I think, espically since Sam won a few weeks back. It depends if she doesn’t choke or not but a 4th round result would be good for Sam.

No expectations on Jelena, coming back from mono will be tough, it’s been the year that could have been, the nightmare of the French Open match with Dementieva lives on, hopefully she’s healthy. Groth got a nice draw, Peng is a winnable and then Razzano in the 2nd, considering they had a tough match at AO, it’s possible. As for Rogowska, she’s hoping for double-faulting unforced error machine Safina comes out, Safin still should win comfortably but I’m curious to see how Olivia plays this match, hopefully it isn’t on too early.

Serena is my pick for the women’s at the moment but again a number can win, bit of a lottery really.

Also, hopefully the Aussies can qualify tonight, especially Luczak and Ball, they have great chances. Pete fought hard in qualies this morning, 6-3 down in the first set TB and ended up winning in straight.

This is the worst draw I have ever seen.

The top half is incredibly weak, bottom half absolutely stacked. I have never seen such a discrepancy. Federer 16th is officially in the bag.

There it is ... the outsider at 8/1 comes through.

21 easy draws in a row ... what are the chances of that ???

We got all those Australians through qualifying, although Pete had to rely on a LL. Ball, Adamczak and Rodionova won their matches in straight sets. Here is who they drew:

Ball vs. Brzezicki - Winnable 1st round with a possible match with Djokovic in the 2nd round.
Luczak vs. Triocki - Tougher 1st round match providing Triocki is up to it, he did retire in both Washington and Cincy
Adamczak vs. Cornet - Cornet been in patchy form this year, she still should be too good for Mon though
Rodionova vs. Dominguez Lino - Winnable match as well

There's the OOP for Monday (Tuesday), highlights there include Stosur first on Court 13 (1am), Hewitt is 4th on Grandstand with Dokic 4th on Court 11 so all 3 will be on tv courts. Federer, Clistjers, Williams sisters & Roddick all start their campaigns

Great stuff mate. :thumbsu: Agree with your picks of Federer and Serena, hard to seee either losing. So disappointed Rogowska drew Safina, that's rotten luck as I would've liked to see what she was capable of.

I'm interested to see how Clijsters performs, she faces Kutuzova tonight, massive hitter but staggeringly inconsistent and has no real game-plan. Could call her a ball baser. Anyway I expect Clijsters to make the 4th round and face Venus. There is one section that is particularly packed with Sharapova and Dementieva looking likely to meet in the 3rd round, that's amazing.

I've done up a big preview which I'll hopefully get around to posting in a sec.

No-one watching?

Anyway, beginning the third set between Sugiyama and Stosur out on court 13ish. Sam won the first set by breaking in the 10th game 6-4, yet Sugiyama took out the second set to the same scoreline. First game of the third, Sam serving and it is tied at deuce. Sam saved a couple break points...:)

Intrigueing final set for sure...

Stosur's ugly forehand has come out to play from 3-1 up not to a break down at 3-4, that last one was an absolute joke. Imagine her with all the pressure she's got to face at AO next year, good grief.

She got through it just, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, took her a few mp's there in that last game. Forehand is way too inconsisant for Sam and maybe a few more first serves. Nice fight from a break down at least. Now for a few hours sleep before Lleyton

Hewitt won eaily in straight sets, Dokic lost in straights, caught the end of it, sadly Jelena was struggling to keep the ball in which wasn't surprising though

venus will win the tournament if she comes through this game :)

Pretty standard day, nothing too shocking.
Rogowska to feature on Arthur Ashe, she's no chance but will be good to see how she holds up against the number 1. Massice chance for Adamczak, has Cornet last on Court 6. Alize been nothing but disgraceful since AO.
Groth, Ball, Luczak and Rodionova also up tonight.

Yeah, I'm curious to see how Olivia will go tonight, pity it's going to be at an awkard time of around 2.30am-3am. Hopefully we are able to get a couple of win out of the aussies playing tonight, Ball is on a tv court as well.

Watched a few matches last night but as I said, the difference between day 1 and 2 was massive in terms of matches I wanted to see.

Stosur... not flash. Sugiyama is a pretty boring player it has to be said, hits basically no winners and just relies on getting ball after ball back. Stosur probably should have lost in straight sets but somehow managed to get the win, extremely average performance though and she'd want to improve pretty quickly if she intends on being there next week.

Hewitt played an absolute journeyman and won 6-0, 6-2, 6-4. He actually probably should've won 0, 1 and 0 but had lapses towards the end of the second and third sets. He kind of lost focus at the end when trying to close out the match and strarted making some really basic errors. All up it was a pretty solid performance though, struck the ball well, served well and his movement was excellent. He now faces Juan Ignacio Chela and they've certainly had their fair share of dramas over the years.

Dokic was beaten in straight sets, to be expected given she's had mono and it's only been the past 3 weeks that she's had enough strength to get out of bed. 10 winners, 41 unforced errors, that's what I call horrible tennis.

Venus Williams was very shaky against Dushevina dropping the first before winning in 3 tough sets. I can't stand her, should've heard the unbelievable screams that were coming from her mouth when she served. What an absolute joke.

Federer's match was a bit weird. As you'd expect he was in cruise control all day but surprised to see him broken twice. The middle stages of the second set were odd, Britton goes to a 3-1 lead only to fall behind a break at 3-4 by losing 12 straight points including being broken to love twice.

Tonight is going to be awesome! The schedule is a million times better, for me at least.

If I were there I'd plant myself at Court 11 where Cirstea and Lisicki will start the day, followed by Massu/Gonzalez and Lopez/Dent. Ashe looks a lot better today as I'm interested to see how big hitting Goerges fares against Kuzetsova as well as young Aussie Rogowska against Safina. Then there's my favourite in Djokovic. :thumbsu: The night session is a beauty with the talented Pironkova against Sharapova (they really do love her in NY don't they?) and Gulbis v Murray.

Great line-up on Armstrong too with Ivanovic the night match there. Pavlyuchenkova and Oudin is second on Grandstand. Wow what a day this should be!
