with over 800 military bases overseas, the US is looking to extend its global arm to permanently establish bases in Iraq. Another satellite nation beholden to the US? with say 50k troops permanent stationed there, so much for democracy.

They will be forever in fear of their murderous tyrants unless the freedom fighters can evict the US and reclaim their resources.

Let us hope other nations abandon the US and isolate them until they can be rehabilitated from their criminal ways.

I doubt it will be permanent but I would like to see the job finished, and that means moving on into Syria. With Syria under control then Lebanon will become a decent place again, Palestinians will have lost their terrorist support route and the region may possibly become peaceful.

I wonder why W isn't interested in talking too tough about N Korea? Could it be that they have ACTUAL weapons of mass destruction (and no oil)? As opposed to the ones Saddam was alleged to have had.
Hes a chicken thats why, the nth koreans would wipe the floor with them. No oil well how obvious.

Mugabe is more dangerous then saddam.

Dont worry about it after all god is telling him to do this.

I would suggest that too many battlefronts at one time has proven the downfall of many a nation. N Korea will have it's day along with Mr Mugabe.

How much oil is in Afghanistan?

True, but LOOK at those battlefronts. Third World Countries without anywhere near the firepower required to launch anything remotely resembling a counter-strike. I think you're being optimistic about Kim il Jong and Mugabe. The yanks have nothing to gain by going into Africa, and the fact remains that NK is armed in the WMD way that might just deter the average American from supporting such an attack. Like Castro, they'll just wait until he croaks and then see how the pieces fall.

Clearly, Afghanistan was nothing more than the Iraq "Dress rehearsal". BTW, lots of drugs in Afghanistan (like Vietnam). Maybe that would entice some folks to have a go at them.

Weren't you the one just suggesting they move on into Syria? A nation that hasn't had sanctions and a weapons embargo for the last fifteen years?

The US won't be finished in Iraq any time soon, that's for certain.

Newsflash. A lot of these 'freedom fighters' you speak, especially those who choose to set off bombs and kill, are not even Iraqis. If you want these people to claim Iraqi resources then you shouldn't have a problem with any other nation claiming them either.

When you say 'moving into', I assume you mean invade and occupy. Your assumptions about subjegating opposition - 'under control' and 'the job finished' - are so glib. You sound like you subscribe to the latest neo-con spin - WWIV is alive. You REALLY want to see the region in disarray and innocent people ( like yourself ) destroyed. This is an imperialist attitude - we bring 'freedom' ( The Brits called it the white man's burden ) .. for us to benefit financially, as it should be. You ignore self-interest as a prime national motivation.

You will find that in fact the US has been looking to remove troops from foreign soil, especially in North Asia and Saudi Arabia. The long term US strategy would obviously involve troops in Iraq, certainly until the US is assured that Iraq has been established as a democracy - obviously a long time yet. Nothing Dan Warna has posted is especially groundbreaking.

You will find that of the ~800? bases the yanks have in over 100 countries, the ones in Saudi Arabia are the ones they prize the most. But they are being shown the door, and need/want permanent bases in Iraq to substitute.

I have to agree..if Iraq was a hotbed of terrorism someone should shut down the CIA because they missed Syria

It's awesome news. Also good to hear the report of a possibility of a giant assault from suicide bombers.

Hopefully more people will get killed in Iraq. That'll teach those Americans.

The USA will definetly be a long term presence in Iraq. If they left in the near future, civil war would erupt. The black gold is paying for it though, but i'm not sure the US will be getting to many volunteers to join the armed forces for the next 10 years. Conscription is just around the corner. Another way to get more troops over there, which I would not put past the Yanks, would be to send people sentenced to less than 5 years jail over to Iraq instead of a jail term. Kill two birds with one stone.
