Or change the nature of the job from confrontation and intervention to de-escalation and prevention.
Of course, the latter won't get support from the 'tough on crime' crowd...
Having methods of de-escalation being the primary means of dealing with potentially violent situations does not entail that police cannot ever use violence. If only everyome played nice

There is a reason de-escalation and crime prevention has better results over time than hard line policing.
Will this help to stop, 40% of cops bashing their partners?
They acted as police, quelling riots, crowd control, investigating civil and political intrigues etc for years but got too powerful so they brought in the " cohorts urbanae" which then acted as police. The praetorian guard was more a bodyguard than a police force no?

If you abolish police the rich will still have their private police as they always have, it is the poor that get mouth raped when none are around.
Given the reports where the 40% was suggested were done in the early 1990s, those cops are probably all retired.
What is the current percentage?
Plus its in America.
Are there any Australian statistics?
I wonder what the % of police getting hospitalised due to assaults is vs their partners.
Does anyone look closely at stats or just read something on Twitter and assume its real?
According to the Greens it’s firefighters who Australian women need to be afraid of!
In America, who knows. What about here?
Haha.. you might dissolve yourself of the terrors of the dubious banking system but you'll never dissuade me from being Frank...What's your industry, if you don't mind me asking?
I'm in banking so there's plenty of terrible people, but not the violent kind of terrible.
HmmlatitudeAnd that is reported domestic violence, so the actual figures would be higher.
Does the job attract terrible people, or does the job make people terrible? Likely both.
Na you are too popular...get over your selfWho cares about the USA, what are the stats for Australia?
America have forfeited their right to be held up as an example of anything, good, bad or indifferent to the civilised world. It's time to look elsewhere or within.

Both would be my guess as well.
People who seek power do so becouse they want power. Power corrupts and in my life experience the most corrupting power is petty power not great power. There are very few checks and balances on petty power and its almost always personal, in your face, the power junkie gets a hit right away. Police and some public servant jobs are great places for those with such desires. Than the family fails to comply, the power junkie lashes out to get their fix.
Then there is the job itself, its stressful and you run into lots of nasty violent aholes as well as seeing lots more domestic violence than most people. Stress, normalised violence and domestic abuse. Not surprising it bleeds over into their own lives.
