Here is PART 4

Donald Trump was sworn in as president of the United States on Monday 20th January, 2025 in Washington DC.

The Assassination of Charlie Kirk

Today we've established Lebbo picks and chooses what stuff he cares about from the bible.
It's a common practice. It's not necessarily intentional, different groups will focus on different parts and ignore/limit influence of others, and people who live in those bubbles long enough become hardened in their views. This was my case, until I took more seriously those parts of the Bible which spoke about immigrants, looking after the poor, the sick, prisoners, redistributing wealth etc.

Conservative politics has achieved a lot off the back of people focusing on particular "moral" issues like same sex behaviour/marriage (which I think the Bible opposes but doesn't harp on as much as it does about caring for immigrants, those in need etc) or abortion (which has no clear position biblically), and a general assumption that "Christian" nations should be wary of introducing people of different religions, which would seem to run counter to the New Testament's mission focus.

Why is it irrelevant?
Fine, I'll hand-hold you through it...

Because whether there is an element of cost or risk to safety doesn't factor into whether Christians should love and care for people, even those considered rivals or enemies.

And even if this didn't include criminals, then it is still irrelevant to Trump admin actions against non criminals and those following legal processes.

Ironically, modern conservatives would HATE Jesus.

A brown man preaching tolerance of minorities, forgiveness for criminals, and spending time and money on helping the needy?

He was once a refugee and his ministry was itinerant, so was homeless by choice.

Gotta keep up with the news mate.
Could be anything mate.

You're an absolute cooker, who knows WTF you could be on about lol

Good of him to put to bed another cooker narrative ie. that the POTUS can't call the national guard into Washington and thats why he couldn't do it on J6 :tearsofjoy:

Can only assume they mean the nomination of the new Labor Statistics commissioner, after the last one wouldn't spout propaganda.

Tbh, this isn't the gotcha that many think it is.

There is a difference in Christianity between laws and rules specified for the nation of Israel (as a theocracy in the Old Testament), that don't necessarily apply to Christians. Jesus argues with religious leaders for example about whether the strict conditions for the Sabbath still apply.

Now there's certainly some interesting rules in there, which beg some questions as to why they were needed.

But if you're trying to argue with a Christian (as opposed to someone who follows Judaism or say a Messianic Jew, who recognises Jesus as messiah), then sticking to instructions that are found in both the Old and New Testaments gives them no wriggle room if they try to dismiss it.

If you actually care that is, which is understandable if you don't.

A lot of 'interesting' passages in that book.

Ezekiel 23:20

There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

That's some damn fine prose! But like many passages in the OT it's metaphorical. The line refers to a woman Oholibah (Jerusalem) and her 'lust' for Egypt. The passage accuses Jerusalem of seeking alliances with pagan nations.

If Ezekiel were alive today he would probably consider the US as Israel's a long term lover with a donkey dick.

Well, it actually is quite relevant when it is from the same book (Leviticus) that is used by theocrats to deny human beings their own personal freedoms (e.g. same sex marriage, thou shall not lie with a man etc etc).

If you want to pick periods to adhere and to discard, fine. But when people cherry pick from the same book to either deny the agency of others or ignore completely (e.g. Israel Folau - a man with tattoos - claiming to oppose homosexuality because of his religion) then it absolutely becomes relevant for discussion.

Yeah sure, if they were to focus on those specific scriptures, but they would also be able to point to at least some consistency between the Old and New Testaments on that topic. Hence something that still applies, at least in moral judgements (but not prescriptive earthly consequence) outside of the former Israel.

Where it's really cherry picking is conservative Christians ignoring other consistent themes and instruction as I've mentioned, but focusing on this particular topic as a critical issue to enforce agendas on. And there is no call for theocracy in the New Testament, so there's that too.
