They still talk red & blue as if its 1880 civil war

US Election 2008: Key times

Timetable for the final day of the 2008 US presidential election.

Last Updated: 8:35PM GMT 04 Nov 2008

Midnight (7pm EST): Virginia, Indiana and Georgia close. If Barack Obama takes two of these, it could be all over.

12.30am (7.30pm EST): The key swing state of Ohio, which has voted with the winner in every presidential election since 1948 except for 1960, and polls indicate the state is on a knife edge. North Carolina, a traditional Red state, which has been fiercely targeted by the Obama campaign, also closes.

1am (8pm EST): Polls in 15 states and Washington DC close. Pennsylvania and New Hampshire are key swing states to watch, as is Missouri (the ultimate bellwether, which has voted with the winner of each presidential election since 1904, with the exception of 1956) and Mississippi (if Obama wins here, it's a massacre). Florida closes – if McCain loses these key 27 electoral college votes, it could be a miserable night for the Republican candidate.

2am (7pm MST): As another set of states close polls, this is the first time a candidate could realistically reach the magic 270 electoral college votes. Colorado and New Mexico are key Red states that Obama has been targeting. He must win these if the race has remained close thus far. Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, traditional Blue states, also close now. McCain must win these if he has failed to secure Pennsylvania.

6am (10pm PST): Alaska is the final state to close polls. With Governor Sarah Palin on the ticket, this state will almost certainly vote Republican.
Note: Times listed are GMT and US local time, and indicate when polls close. Exit polls are expected shortly afterwards, but could be delayed by hours in the event of disputed results. ...feed

Talk-show diva and business billionaire Oprah Winfrey shed her nonpartisanship this presidential election cycle and not only endorsed her man Barack Obama. She also actively campaigned for him in the primary, drawing huge crowds in Iowa (which he won), North Carolina (which he won) and New Hampshire (which he lost).

This despite a dip in her show's ratings among women who'd rather not get politics there or were disappointed that a woman who built her empire on women did not support the first serious woman candidate for president, Sen. Hillary Clinton.
But that's ancient history now.

Watching the TV reports of the people lining up to vote, I'm confident that Obama will win. After all, you don't stand in a queue for hours on end just to vote to keep the status quo.

I hope so. Tight so far.

I'm looking forward to the result so we don't have to put up with the incessant coverage of the US election. Yes it's important but the media coverage reached saturation point here months ago.

Damnit - no midday movie on Channel 7 because of !@#$ing US elections! What's wrong with news breaks? Do we really need live US election coverage on one network, let alone two? (The ABC are also showing it)

EDIT: Make that three networks covering it - Channel Eddie as well

Obviously, "Power Of Nightmares" is not really of that ilk. I know the type of tenuous conspiracy theory fluff you mean though, and I share your scepticism of the sceptics. But I must confess, it's not so much for the reason that you've given. The sheer sloppiness with which the US government have conducted foreign policy and international relations in recent times suggests that doing "covert - leave no trace" may not be such a huge strength of theirs. For mine, there's no reason to suggest it would be any different in their own backyard. They love a hack job.
So in essence, anything with the prefix "neo" is bad, and anything with the suffix "errorism", is, likewise, bad.

BTW GR is that train montage your idea or did you take it from the net, I lol anyway.

Shut up, we were so pissed at the election coverage at work that a co-worker paused to call channel Seven with an instruction to 'stop ****ing around and just show the live feed.'

The SBS coverage was the best, plenty of feed and only some pausing for the awesomeness of the glasses of the bloke who was there for special comments.

Obama's speech was ****ing brilliant.

A win for the ages.

...and we'd all be driving solar power tea cups.

Iraq > Tea cups. You know it. I know it. No point debating semantics.

Speaking of which, seen the documentary "Power of Nightmares"? Strongly suggest all download it off youtube. Chilling stuff.
Speaking of bullshit, go drive a ****ing solar powered car down a street in Iraq when an IED goes off next to it.

I'm just as pleased that Bush is going as I am that Clinton didn't get near the nomination.

I doubt I could handle more cringing at the fake folksyness of yet another recently elected leader. *ahem*

*clears cookies*

If you care about politics, watch his speech. If you don't, definately watch his speech. I was 14 when Howard was first elected and 18 when Bush was "elected", so for me, this is pretty ****ing massive.

Today is a good day.
