''If you lie with dogs you wake up with fleas''

As reported on Ninemsn...

Who needs friends when you have enemas like this?

I appreciate military testing and space and showing the region what our big brother can do..but do we seriously need this?

Why does the cynic inside me think of Maralinga? If they were good???? bombs why arent they been tested in the US?

Thoughts?

So... where do I sign up for a protest against that!

Let them bomb their own bloody country. Just how much is Howard going to bend over and take before he realises that it's Australia's interests he's supposed to represent?!?

Trying something different, huh? Will it be 'collateral damage', Messrs Howard and Downer, if something goes wrong?

Yea right as if mr unilateral would bomb his own country, we are being used and abbused for mr religion's own agenda, the day howard stands up and pulls his pants up will be a glorious day.

Bush is a bomb.

Reminds me of the time when the truth came out about the British nuke tests at Maralinga. I wanted the Australian Govt to get reciprocal testing rights in Kent.

I'm all for it;

*** No long term environmental damage (unlike nuclear)

*** Strengthens our relationship with US without pïssing off somebody else (unlike Iraq)

*** Would lead to some economic benefit.

There is no such thing as a "free" trade agreement.

Funny how these cosy arrangements emerge as soon as the elections are over.

Does it make you all warm and fuzzy inside to know that those bastards you idolise are going to let a foreign country drop untested BOMBS on Australian soil?

Is that what you call serving the national interest?

They already use our bombing ranges for practice, so to me its no big deal unless they decide to drop a nuke.

The 'untested' bit is what freaks me out.

I know that the odds of the computer on those things stuffing up and hitting a farm or camping ground in the areas where these ranges must be is negligible. I ALSO know what will make the odds zero.

No thanks. Let them do it in their OWN country, and deal with the possible consequences of stuffing up themselves.

How do we know they wont?

I actually started this thread not as a lambast against JH or GWB because I would still post it if it was Latham/Kerry..as DryRot said my concern is for another Maralinga...and FreoBigFella there are people out there..also the land...

If they are ''safe'' why not use the Nevada testing site? I am really concerned when people line up pants down just because the person they support politically has said its ok....anyone know what Baaaa means? Guess what Tim56 JH wont cry if you dont agree .. Just as Mark Latham wont cry if you think he is an idiot.

To me this an issue about our land been used as a testing site for who knows what....Hey FreoBigFella can i come over to your house and test my slingshot? I mean it will scare birds away and make you look tough for your neighbours.

When you look at the big picture, such as the free trade agreement set to make us worse off, the unquestioning involvement in Iraq, the 'sighn me up sctty' approach to the Son of Star Wars project, the perplexing purchase of used U.S rustbuckets which cost more than their state-of-the-art European counterparts, etc. And now this.

Just what agenda is Howard pushing? Its certainly not mine, or 20,000,000 other Australians. Its news like this which makes me feel more justified in my hatred towards a government which apparently most love. (Although im yet to meet a single Liberal... Just one will do)

Im counting down the days till next election. I dont care who wins, Labour or Liberal, but this rat must go. Although I think it would be safe to asssume he is going to retire with mysterious welth.

It's actually a satirical quote from the Gilles Report on the Maralinga tests. I agree with you on this one. Absolutely disgraceful move by Howard.

mmm

we've had DU issues in puerto rico, iraq, serbia with hundreds of birth problems, miscarraiges and ill children

when they say new weapons does that exlude atomic, chemical or biological weapons.

and we know even with a test situation Americans mistake women and children for enemy combatants, schools for weapons silos etc so can it be really safe?

if its so safe, why not use their existing environments...

because we are being lied too and suckers like you and lap dogs like howard buy it every time.

If the weapons do involve DU or other serious toxic compounds aka chemical weapons then sure I have a problem with it.

But it might simply be a case that even in the more remote areas of the US, it is getting too poulated. I simply don't have enough information.

Also there might be addional environmental considerations, maybe the US don't have any suitable ranges due to ground density, you can bet bunker busters will be part of any new arsenal.

But really the main reason why I support this is simply if we are wanting to develop strong ties with the US militarily, then it is in this sort of sphere were co-operation should take place, rather than through joining some sham coalition in a political invasion of another sovereign country.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. Nov 4, 2004 — A National Guard F-16 fighter jet on a nighttime training mission strafed an elementary school with 25 rounds of ammunition, authorities said Thursday. No one was injured.

The military is investigating the incident that damaged Little Egg Harbor Intermediate School shortly after 11 p.m.

Police were called when a custodian who was the only person in the school at the time heard what sounded like someone running across the roof.

Police Chief Mark Siino said officers noticed punctures in the roof. Ceiling tiles had fallen into classrooms, and there were scratch marks in the asphalt outside.

The pilot of the single-seat jet was supposed to fire at a target on the ground three and half miles away from school, said Col. Brian Webster, commander of the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard. He does not know what happened that led to the school getting shot up.

The plane was 7,000 feet in the air when the shots were fired. The gun, an M61-A1 Vulcan cannon, is located in the plane's left wing. It fires 2-inch-long bullets that are made of lead and do not explode, said Webster.

"The National Guard takes this situation very seriously," said Lt. Col. Roberta Niedt, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. "The safety of our people and the surrounding communities are our foremost concern."

Schools in New Jersey were closed Thursday because of a teachers convention.

Webster would not identify the pilot or detail possible disciplinary measures.

Mike Dupuis, president of the township's Board of Education, said school workers are mindful that the firing range is nearby.

"Being so close to the range, that's always in the back of our minds. It is very scary. I have children in that school and relatives that work there," he said.

The range has been used by the military since the end of World War II, long before this area of south Jersey was developed.

Just a little accident..I mean it couldnt happen here could it

Get your heads out your backsides or out of JHs and go see your local MP and complain.

At least we don't make heros of our drug cheats, unlike the Greeks.
