If these two superpowers went against each other in a full scale war (no nukes accepted in this thread), then who would win? No allies to help either China or the US, it's just these two, one on one. Talk military tactics and strategy on how these countries can possibly beat each other... and remember, you cannot use nukes (otherwise it will be a stalemate). And lets just say that this "war" happened before the events of September 11th...

My opinion? The US of course... they have better technology, a superior airforce, a superior navy and better tacticians but they are heavily outnumbered... and this will be a huge factor. But without nukes, I'd say America by a nose. China's airforce has out of date fighters, and their navy is nothing to gloat about. But their main strength is their ground forces, and this will probably determine if they will win or not. But the US has better trained ground troops, with superior logistics than China's. Better tanks, ground vehicles but the troop numbers will be a concern. It'll be a long and drawn out war... that's for sure.

Your say?

Quite frankly at the moment, if that happened, I would want China to win due to the US's stance in Afganastan. 7 million people there will due to their bombing and starvation.
Now you can't tell me that the US stands for peace and liberty.

In a modern conventional war, once you have control of the air and the sea lanes, it's just a matter of time. Chinese tanks vs the MBT's of other Western nations? Don't make me laugh. :D

Mate, that wasn't the question.

You have stated your argument on this in chat heaps of times. I respect your opinion but don't bring it into a different topic.

China would drive the US into the ground IMO if it were a ground war. But then if it became an air war ... the US would just bomb the s hit outta them!

If this were to happen, then America would do everything in its power to keep it off the ground

Air and Navy power - America wins
Ground War - China

However, no war is ever fully won without sending in the ground troops....

Iceman has it on the money....America don't like to commit to the hard ball, whereas if China was threatened, there would be little they wouldn't do. Hard at the ball, hard at the man.

For my money, it'd come down to whose home game it was......if US can make it an aerial game in nice dry weather, they could do China, but the minute the ball came to ground, China's running brigade would be all over them.
