usb to parrell

my usb ports are screwed and my little bro told me u can get a adaptor that u can plug ur usb into a parrell port ........only need it cos we r getting a new printer and i dont want to get new usb ports as i will be buying a new pc in the next 12 months...

You can go the other way fairly easily with an adapter - ie: plugged into your USB port. But I'm not sure it's that easy to convert a parallel port into a USB port.

I think you can get Parallel<->USB coverters that work the other way too (to i.e. accommodate older, USB-less machines), but I'm wondering if they will work particularly well given that as I understand it, USB is significantly faster than Parallel for transferring data. Could cause a bottleneck and problems.

sounds like this might not be the way for me..........does anyone know if many companys still make parrell port printers instead of usb ones cos that could be another option for me

You could always try fixing the USB ports. But I suppose it will depend on what is actually not working whether that's going to cost a bundle or not.

Don't muck about with old expensive technology, get a new USB card.

Exactly! Why pay $15 on an outdated adapter, when you can buy a new USB card for $20!

hp have none that i recall unless its old second hand

epson may be the way to go

epson 43sx $119.00 2800 dpi the sx is the paralell as the 43 ux is a usb printer

my choice epson c63 $ 179.00 5760 *1440 dpi my choice has paralell and usb on same printer

epson c83 $299.00 is 5760*1440 dpi but faster than the c63

both epsons are cheap to run with individual color and black cartridges( seperate red, yelloe, and blue.)

canon also have pinters with both parellel ports and individual cartridges

i560= $299.99 4800*1200 dpi
i865= $399.00 4800*1200 dpi direct to dvd/cd printing no more sticky labels

i965=#549.00 4800*2400 dpi dvd/cd printing

hope this helps, stay away from most usb only cheap printers as the ink will cost you an arm and a leg

There's plenty of printers with usb/parallel interfaces. But Jim Boy is on the money. Much cheaper to get a new USB controller card than mess about with adapters

An adapter would probably cost twice as much, if you could find one, and the speed would be lousy.
