Named after the greatest ruckman ever + my propensity to ramble about nothing in particular
= an overated confectionary item ( can you still get them?)

They stopped selling them a couple of years ago-I used to enjoy a pollywaffle ;)

Great thread btw Veedubs, I'm enjoying reading how posters came up with their names :thumbsu: (Nothing much to tell about mine; I was in a hurry, thought I had to come up with a certain number of letters/numbers in the name <later realised that I didn't>, so picked 006 as Ottens has always been one of my faves!)

I am a bit of a history buff. Most people know of the Greats - like Alexander, Caesar, Napoleon but it seems very few know of the great Byzantine general Belisarius. So I try and give him a little publicity.

Unlike many of the more well known Byzantines (Eastern Roman Empire) he was not duplicitous and in it for himself - so he stands out a fair bit. A man of integrity and loyalty when it was unfashionable to be so.

When the Western Roman Empire was on its knees - Emperor Justinian dispatched Belisarius with few forces to reconquer the Empire from the German invaders - the Vandals and Visigoths.

Belisarius did a remarkable job and reconquered Roman Africa and most of Italy thru superb generalmanship. Then his Emporer began to fear his rise and shipped him off to the eastern front - where, with some pretty ordinary troops and resources, he held the borders against greater numbers and quality but could never defeat the enemy.

Never lost a battle and was only thwarted by a jealous Emperor -otherwise he would have gone down in the annals of history along side Alexander and Caesar.

So until recent times - Belisarius symbolised GFC for me as well - greatness not fully recognised (and just could not quite get the job done ).

The other name I considered was Subatoi - the great Mongol general - who it is said fought perhaps 50 battles and never lost one ! But so little is known really about him and his deeds.

The way we are going at present - might have to change user names !

I am really a giant Grizzly bear that was given a special experimental serum that allows me to have a higher intelligence than others bears.

So in short I'm smarter than the average bear :)

Came up with mine thinking it will be a username to have for the next decade or so. Now we have won in 2009 and 2011 my username is "looking old".

When I was a young lad at cricket training (under 14s), my "casual" (lazy) approach to training had one of my teammates commenting that I was "slower than a slug, faster than a piece of wood". Hence the nickname "the wooden slug".

Also candiehappy = candy happy for me too.

Same. I thought he was obviously a pill popper.
oops.

man, I'm copping it here! One thing for sure, I'm not eye candy for the ladies !

The fact that you have kids may say otherwise?

you assume consent from the other party ? Nah, not a saint!!

mind you, I go well at the RSL bingo nights ... :D

I'm old enough to remember the on field chemistry these two were able to generate hence I went with the sentimental option. Great memories of catching the train to KP in the early days to watch the boys work their magic.

To let you know how computer naiive I am/was, when I first joined, I noticed some posts by Darren Forssman, who I quite liked as a player, and I really thought it was him posting!

yes, i was glorious half forward that only got to display his wares in 45 odd games.

to be fair, i did try "austin mcrabbs stained jocks" but was denied.

russell merriman was another i thought of.

Well, I was going to make a joke surrounding roofies, but figured the mother(s?) of your children probably wouldn't appreciate that.

Those RSL Bingo nights are great. Those old birds have no idea what numbers they are writing on cheques :thumbsu:

I was really eager to reply to a post for the first time and my usual username was taken. I'd just finished watching the Seinfeld season 9 dvd, and H E Pennypacker was fresh in my mind.

From wikipedia (Cosmo Kramer)-
Like the other three characters, Kramer has pseudonyms he uses in various schemes; H.E. Pennypacker, Dr. Martin Van Nostrand, and Professor Peter Van Nostrand are the most popular.
Under the name H.E. Pennypacker in "The Puerto Rican Day", Kramer poses as a prospective buyer interested in an elegant apartment in order to use its bathroom. Kramer appears as Pennypacker to help Elaine get revenge on a Mayan clothing store, "Putamayo", by repricing all the merchandise in the store with a pricing gun in "The Millennium". In the latter capacity, he claims to be "a wealthy American industrialist."

No particular meaning, it was a means to an end.

And chalk up another vote for Candy Happy, I never even thought about it being Can Die Happy. May if the D was a capital?

I like your old user name.

And FWIW, Krisholio, or whoever you are, we still refer to you as Diablo- I dont think that is going to change. :p

I did mention that in my first post on this thread, and did it with you and Stripes in mind :p

To me Krisholio is Angry in Mentone and I'm with Tex I have always and will always believe there is a poster called Candy Happy.

I'm devastated the Rabbi doesn't look like the Simpsons rabbi in real life.

Bloody hell, even i'd almost forgotten that one lol.

I only use that when I get week long bans from precious Collingwood mods :D

I liked Diablo. But it always annoyed me at the same time.
It's a PC game I never seemed to have the time to play but always wanted to. A bit like warcraft now. :(

I was reading a book and the name Sttew wasn't in it, so that's how I came up with my user name, without giving too much away.

Jumping Jack ....... the nickname of the father of a bloke who I had big hopes for from day one. And it looks like he might be about to become the player we all hoped for.

Hint: Turned the game for Geelong in this years GF and might well have won the Norm Smith if he kicked straight.

Matthew Stokes dad's nick-name was Jumping Jack?

Good one.

You know, when you mention anything about Christianity, God or Jesus, people usually go apoplectic! Character First is a Christian program, so....:)

What you choose to believe and how you choose to live is entirely your own decision. The "apoplexy" comes when you (or anyone) takes it upon themselves to pressure others to live the same way, irrespective of their own decisions in life. Don't use bigfooty as a soapbox.

That is brilliant. Some great names and stories behind them on here (another reason why this board rocks).

In the past I've used a form of my real first name online, but that seemed a bit unoriginal! I wanted a feline-sounding name and am also into history - Bastet (aka Bast) was the Cat Goddess in Ancient Egypt and I figured that if She still exists, she'd definitely be one of the patron deities of this team.
