Well Toby Greene for a start. He still can't kick. (I'd bring in Townsend ahead of Barrett though)

This feels like a self perpetuating myth sometimes, for what its worth he went at 86% on Saturday, and plenty were worse, a LOT worse.

Yes I know there are two Lambs but that's the way it was named.

B: Hunt, Frost, Downie
HB: Wilson, Jaksch, Sumner
C: Golds, Whiley, T.Barrett
HF: Griffith, Boyd, Lamb
F: Reid, Giles, Finlayson
Foll: Phillips, J.Barrett, Lamb

Inter: Faul, Mattingly, Himmelberg, Mudge

B: Michael, Schade, Walton
HB: Kenny, Warnock, Hutchins
C: LeJuene, Russell, Allen
HF: Ellis, Leslie, Mutu
F: Herbert, Gorringe, Cameron
Foll: Foster, Osborne, Holland

Inter: Trask, Leong, Woosup, Blood, Palmer

When was that?
Pre NEAFL. I remember Swans reserves playing in ACT comp with 17 men.

I remember watching a swans reserves match at the SCG as a curtain raiser against St George in the Sydney comp when they were only allowed 17 on the field a few (quite a few) years ago. Still won by 100 odd points though.

Sunday lunchtime at BISP, might be worth wandering out at having a bit of a look. Only been able to catch 2nd halves and final qtrs when they are curtain raisers.

I'm assuming my membership gets me in for nix. Anyone confirm?

I'm pretty sure the Swans never played with a man down (not counting injuries) in the Canberra comp. Must have been in the Sydney league.

You don't even need a membership. I've walked into Swans reserves games there for nothing.

Ichy, let 'em know what time you'll be getting there and they'll start when you arrive. And definitely no-one on the gate !

There prob won't be any catering there, perhaps a coffee van with sandwiches if anything. But walk across the road to the soccer fields and there's plenty of food over there...about 10 minutes walk.

Played like crap for the first quarter and a half but went into half time even at 43-43. Wilson and Lamb the only two looking like they deserve a recall so far. Phillips playing better than Giles in the ruck (and resting fwd)

Boyd has an annoying habit of taking marks inside 50 then dishing it off rather than take a shot. Done it three times in about 10 minutes.

Comfortable 55 point win, having done just enough. Nothing great about the game. Sumner took a screamer with about 5 minutes to go. Hunt looked like he's done a groin or something. Boyd finally took a couple of shots on goal after taking a mark inside 50 - and lo and behold, he kicked them (should trust himself more) Couple of the top up players did ok (49 & 52).

Whiley gets a lot of the ball but is either wasteful or takes too long to dispose of it. After taking a mark, he'll hold up play and spot up a player and usually hit him, but he'll also ignore a number of leads or free players in doing so allowing a defence to get settled further down field. Giles also guilty of this.

Golds was good but will never be a regular AFL player, could trade him, but won't get anything for him and he'd be unlikely to crack it anywhere else anyway. I'd be happy to offer him a NEAFL contract for next year.

No real standouts in the game - Lamb and Wilson obviously a cut above, everyone else playing NEAFL for a reason.

Ichy, did you manage to get a feed there ? And how many do you think were in the crowd ?

Do you think there is such a thing as a "NEAFL contract" ? I'd be surprised if there was.
I thought the closest that there is, is whatever it is that Steven Gilham is on - some sort of entry-level deal for a fringe player.

Sam Reid is on the NEAFL list, not the Senior list or rookie list. Yes he's also a development coach, but he's not a top-up.

My understanding is Sam Reid is on a NEAFL contract, as well as a development coach deal. Gillham is still on the Senior list.

I would also imagine that all the other teams are at least semi professional and not completely amateur. Be a bit rough if nobody else is getting a dollar or two out of the competition - even if it's match payments plus a little bit. They certainly get paid to play SANFL, WAFL and VFL and if the NEAFL wants to improve and start to compete then they have to move in that direction.

When we end up with an AFL size list we'll need more than a few players who are only going to play NEAFL, you can't just keep chopping and changing completely with top ups. Hence the need for contracting players to play NEAFL in the same way that Geelong contracts players to play VFL only.

Not even a vending machine for a drink.

Crowd would have been maybe 50 or 60 including Cogs, Shaw and Patton (Addison and Haynes were in the coaching box) as well as the family of a Gold Coast player (Gran was very vocal).

It was a pleasant afternoon watching the footy at a local suburban oval (with a good grandstand) I reckon it was well worth the effort. Kick to kick at half time - some of the kids were even out there at qtr and 3qtr time. Good day - more should try it.

Bring your own food and drink though.

It is a great venue to watch a game at. I sat with my wife and kids behind the goals (too cold in the stands because of the shade) and cheered on the boys. We normally pack a picnic basket because unless it's a NAB Cup game / Fan Day (which are now held out at Rouse Hill), the kiosk is closed. Being tied for first place on the ladder is a sign of good times ahead
