Autopsy v Essendon

For the last three quarters he was, was at his panicky worst in the first. Same could be said for a few though. We were lucky The Bummers were even worse in the opening quarter. Looked like Coburg v Frankston.
I thought first quarter was his best actually, watch the replay
That run and punch was sublime

Dea and Batch were very good last night.
Astbury will be a player. I know people can't see it yet, but he will be ok.
Is Maric the best recruit this club has aquired?
I think Elton will be better than Astbury but I think both should be developed as forwards. Griff to stay down back. He will be our "weapon" :p

Yep, me too. His 1st quarter was probably his best for the club. Puzzling to think anyone could say it was anything but good.

If you are talking about best recruit ever, Brodders was a pretty handy recruit, as was a certain 3x Brownlow Medalist! ;)

Re your other post about Ramadan, it ended about a week ago.

Shane Edwards - Angry at you Mr Edwards, contributed well then you go and hit a player in the face and will probably miss round 1, what were you thinking?

If Titch gets rubbed out for that, I will give up on footy. Absolutely nothing in it.

Agree, it was a free kick, and nothing more IMO (but who would know with the match review... he does play for us, too, which will count against him!). All it was, was a clumsy push with the forearm that went high and got him in the chin area. Not too much in it. Someone had mentioned a second incident too tho, so maybe the one I saw isn't the one of concern?

Only difference is, unlike VFL, Coburg actually beat Frankston. :P

That throwing the ball against us when Dumbleton was the culprit bewildered me no end. And the 50 against Jackson was crap, when, you put it into hindsight, later in the game Titch takes a mark and takes 4 steps to turn around, a bombers player isn't even in the contest pushes Titch in the back, and it isn't called, I mean seriously.

Overall it was a scrappy game, but we should have won by more. I thought O'Hanlon was very good, and to whoever said he has been pathetic, look at yourselves. He played a good game tonight.

Posted this in the changes thread but will put it here too:

IMO
Conduct - Intentional (3 points)
Impact - Low (1 point)
Contact - Head High (2 points)

6 points = Level 3 = 225 activation points - 25% = 168 points, 1 match ban, 68 carry over points

Note: even with reckless conduct it's a 1 match ban, what's worse is Titch would be 1 game off a 5 year good behaviour record started in 2007 so should have a 5 year good behaviour record I think (still 1 match ban for a level 3 offence)

Potentially
Impact will be negligible so the charge will be dropped

He'll be there round 1 2013 so that was a bit of an over reaction from my part but still thought it was stupid and not needed

Anyone watching on the TV last night note Newy's response when asked about how our backline has been really good this year?

Responded along the lines of: "It's been good, and they're still really young, so it will be good to get an older, more experienced tall defender to fill the gap."

The look in his eye, and the way he responded has me now 100% convinced Chaplin will be a Tiger.

Or it gets thrown out for insufficient force. Monfries is a shit truck.

Great pick up, i missed that.

There was a real strange passage of play on the wing where I think it was Bellchambers got tackled and IMO just dropped the ball ( pure holding the ball) , he then went to the ground and scooped it about 10 metre's towards Essendons goals as clear as day and then the umpire blew the whistle and awarded him a free kick because of a Richmond player throwing the ball.

I was waiting for the umpire to switch on and reverse the decision but it didn't happen. It was like the twilight zone or something. Just weird !!!

Did anyone see this from a different angle or something ? Do my eyes need to be checked not the umpires ?

From my view, happened exactly as you described it...Woeful

I can only assume the umpire was blindsided, and must've looked like it was a tiger arm in there flicking it up. I can kinda forgive ump's for missing calls or making the wrong call when it can be put down to having their view of the contest obscured...

Yep you could see him trying not to grin. Sounded like it is all sewn up.

Absolutely dominated the Bombers last night and should have won by at least 70-80 points.
Few things I notices:
- Batchelor is without a doubt in our best 22. Lined up on Hurley at the start of the game and probably giving away 5cm and 10kg. Did a really good job early on and is really solid defensively and so composed with the ball. Feel the safeness of a Newman, Cotchin, Deledio when he has the pill.. He is Chris Newman MKII.
- Astubury: Was good for him to get some game time and he looked ok. Big question will be whether he is our future CHB or CHF... Griffiths and him will be our CHB and CHF for the next 10 years, just need to work our who is forward and who is back... Give them both time, they are only young.. Astbury 21, Griff 20, but Astbury is physically smaller and less filled out then Griff. Have faith!!
- Jackson: Surely he can only ever play as a tagger from now on.. Has done past jobs on Boomer etc and has played his best footy in this position. Held Watson to one of his lowest disposal games this year and was good at reducing his impact. He cannot play through a midfield offensively as Cotch, Grigg, Foley, Cotch, Martin, Conca, Deledio, Houli are all before him in rotations and better ball use and Jackson can't play forward or back..
- Deledio & Houli: Loved the way they both took the game on last night and broke the lines. Would have been 10-15 times either one of them had the ball in the middle of the ground delivering into our F50.
- Post: Don't see what all the negativity is on here about him?? Think he is coming along ok. If you remember when we drafted him, he was always going to be a longer term prospect and he was an over-ager in the TAC. He is still only 22 and has improved year on year to date. I think with all these 195+ players, you need to give him till 23-24 to show his true worth. When you compare his performances to other similar sized and aged players, he compares pretty well. Worth persisting with for at least another year.
- Tuck, Cotchin, Rance, Jack, Maric - Usual performances, which we are getting used to. Good to see some consistency finally.

Only frustrating thing is it should have been a Richmond free for the tackle in the first place

Thought Batchelor was easily one of our best, beat Hurley in the air and then ran off the fat **** at every opportunity. smashed it in the first half.

Martin played perhaps his best game for the season too imo, his field kicking was sublime.

Was massive last night. When he is on, he is so damaging. Very smart footballer. Still Ramadan too, so it makes his effort even more remarkable. Love ya Bach!

on a side note this ramadan references need to be forgotten. he has been doing this for a long time and is used to it. he is also able to get special privileges if he needs it too. the references to this just need to be forgotten.

He looks to have some footy smarts, and size. He also looks very slow. Do you think this is primarily a lingering after effect of his injury, and with a good pre-season will pick some pace up? Might look up his pre-draft stat's for sprint times etc to see if he's just never been particularly quick.

Have to say, yes!

maurice rioli?

I thought Dea looked more confident than ever before and showed a heap. His kicking was a feature. Has all the tools this kid.

Batch is a gun. Our backline is at its best when he and Grimes are in it.

Something from left field Carltank gettin spanked by Gold Coast...wud luv this too continue....RIP THEM A NEW ONE Gold Coast :D  :thumbsu:
Ha Ha yes this and the strong possibility we will finish above the tankers goes some of the way to relieve the pain of those earlier close losses.

Almost a dead heat between bombers and umpires as to who were the worst performed on ground. Both were beyond appalling. Thought we didn't look much better at times. Noticed a shot of Cotch warming up before the match - something about his eyes didn't look right thought he wasn't completely focused. Glad his teammates helped get him back into the game later on.

I've been really impressed with Edwards this year his effort to keep the ball in play tuckd in just around from the point post and finish off was almost identical to a play against the doggies I think it was. Great effort. Umpires had it in for him for some reason.
