Autopsy V Freo

Can't be angry with their effort. Every team has a tipping point with injuries and as our depth is still poor it doesn't take many missing to really hurt us. But without Foley, Conca, Grimes, Batchelor, Vickery and then Griffiths it makes things tough. The club would be well aware hence why they would like to target free agents.

can't wait till vickery gets back next year hopefully fit and healthy, our forward line structure is shambles without him

Given that we were missing Foley Vickery Grimes & Conca from our best 22 and lost Griffiths early on I'm not overly disappointed that we lost by 22. Add those guys to the side and its possible that we would have won tonight.

We're really not that far off being a finals side, its just that we lack the polish to win these sorts of games and as such it has cost us this year. Going off the effort tonight another pre season and some smart recruiting and we'll be a dangerous side next year.

Can't really think of any ten minute period where we were in control and made it count on the scoreboard. So many of our possessions were sideways and we'd find ourselves hard up against the boundary line. Too many stationary objects when we needed movement. Too crowded in the forward line, too open in the backline. Clanger kings under pressure.

Comprehensively outplayed all day. They just ground us down.

Not to mention McGuane's two misses from a combined distance of 1 metre... Suddenly we're right in it.

That scoreline really flattered us considering how well Freo were playing and how "consistent" the umpires are. Just need to get rid of a few of those D grade players, pull in a few B-A players and we'll be alright next time we see 'em.

It's a season of missed opportunities but let's go out on a high note and smash the next two teams we play!

Tried hard but just not good enough. Too many passengers and players not up to it.

Won't improve to the standard we want until players like McGuane, Jackson (has another year, only at Richmond) and the likes are gone and replaced by competent footballers.

What was worrying even moreso though today besides what I already knew was that the coaches struggled to adapt to Freo's gameplan once again. Had no answer for their stranglehold and press. Was almost a carbon copy to our game against them earlier in the year so seems they learnt little. I'd be looking to add an experienced head up there in the offseason to help out on game day.

Lids is a match winner, when the game was on the line we needed him to step up.
if the coach tells lids to play forward in a sacrificial role , and every kick going inside 50 is either to jack with 3 on him or a shank then how to you propose that being bretts fault??

I like your line of thought, just surprised at how you viewed the game. Did you not think in general play that Freo had it completely all over us? Most of our goals were scrapped, and there was no real fluidity to our forward movements, other than when we caught Freo on the fast break. I know we were under manned, but I thought we got taught a lesson by a real disciplined finals team.

What a big step forward for the Post-man. He clunks them well and I still think he could be valuable up forward. He ain't going anywhere. Griffo injured again, but that was gutsy. Cotchin and Morris really good. Carlton unlikely to get in now, really good. It was a bit of a vanilla game, but Freo can do that to you. Really don't like them. Mind games with Sandi arrogant and not needed. Would much prefer Saints to make it. Anyway, we could finish off with two good wins, and good signs for '13.

we still manage to miss way to many stationary targets..... no to mention moving ones

cant remember the last time a richmond player hit a leading forward lace out on a lead ( ATT: Jack) on a consistent basis

Out coached and got sucked into their horrid game plan yet again.
Too many players try kicks well beyond their ability.
Expected result really, they aren't that far ahead of us and had a very experienced team.

If the coach is telling one of our few quality match winners to play a sacrificial role in the forward line, then we're in serious trouble. That's what we have guys like McGuane and Miller for.

I was listening to the radio coverage on SEN. They must have been taking the 6PR feed as the commentators were very biased. From what I understood we played poorly and Fremantle played really well. They also seemed to indicate that the umpiring was really one seided with Pavlich being looked after, particulary after an incident with Rance.

Is this a correct take on the game?

Pretty much.

Fremantle played the match on their terms and we were throughoughly outplayed in general play. Hardwick was outcoached by Ross once again. We did well through sheer determination to keep the margin semi respectable.

On the umpiring, they started getting some home town decisions and Pavlich was looked after a bit (especially when he slung Rance over the boundary line for no free against) but it had little influence on the result.

• Riewoldt was poor
• McGuane was poor
• O'Hanlon can't get involved
• Rance was beaten like a crushed grape, his worst enemies are Petrie and Pav and i don't think he'll ever beat them unless they retire or get a serious injury
• Edwards not enough
• White was stupid
• Martin was put forward which made him poor - never do that again, never try to use him as a medium forward for a whole game
• Tuck started slowly like he's done all season but got into it late - not as clutch
• Deledio can't become a champion or captain if he can't break those bloody tags - need to work on that during the pre-season just have someone like Jackson try to tag him one on one throughout the pre-season and try to get rid of him
• Maric was smashed
• Nahas has dipped a little this season compared to last season, mostly looked good when we're winning
• Kingy tried to keep us in the game got 3 gave away a couple more opportunities to others,
• Cotchin tried but didn't have a real impact like he had last game, but was best for us today
• Morris tried and put his body on the line
• Ellis should get a rest
• Post definitely upped his value :thumbsu:, if we keep this sucker i'll be pissed
• Newman more ball but his influence was next to none and most of his disposals were from chips kicks around the backline which put pressure on our other young defenders
• Jacko did his job on Fyfe after quarter time and kept him relatively quiet after 9 disposals in the first quarter, although today he had a bad day in terms of offensive, this season he's been able to play within his limitations and today he hasn't
• Helbig not that great, his first few possessions were from chip kicks and was relatively quiet in terms of impact
• Griff's season is over and should aim for 2013 and come back bulked up and with and improved tank

Good fight by the tigers based on the fact that a lot of people thought we were going to get flogged, this is not necessarily a bad thing as we can get ready for the draft and come out all guns blazing for 2013

It's these sort of pressure 8 point games that really put the spotlight on players...

We know that the following did not give enough...Jack, Nahas, Newman, Deledio Edwards White

We know that McGuanne has stamped his own papers

Post needs to have a look in a look in a mirror and see that he is a big man capable of hurting

Umpiring was bloody ordinary...really the AFL have to look in to ensuring that umpiring is ALWAYS consistent and to the rules no matter where the game is played...Rance should have been paid 2-3 frees against Pavlich but the freakin umps were too soft to pay genuine frees...and as for the Post deliberate..WTF?

As forLyon and naming Sandilands as a late inclusion...please...Lyon you ****ing campaigner...it is ..not in the spirit of the game...He was always going to play today and Sandilands ended up the difference today

deledio was shit house today, didn't look interested at all. there was one kick that went straight up in the air 5m away from him and he didn't go up. also a couple blokes ran past him and he didn't even bother chasing them

Don't be hard on Deledio, Crowley has been outstanding in his tagging roles this year.

Unlucky fellas, I think the scoreline flattered you a bit, but on your day we have been your bitches.

Pretty spot on from what I was watching. Freo I thought were quite impressive, and we tried hard, but weren't good enough.

I know this is not 100% relevant to an Autopsy thread, but it's really just dawned on my that I owe our old friend Santa an apology... Earlier in the season he basically got chased off these boards for his opinions. Sure, he was incessantly and irritatingly negative when we seemed to be travelling well, but now that we've been exposed for how far off the mark we really are, it seems much of what he said was on the money. Not sure where he's at these days, but, Santa... you were right!

I think the result pretyy well underlined our 2012 campaign, not quite good enough when it counted...wasnt too much to get excited about , the lyon smother is the perfect antedote to dimmas freewheelin style. Bit of work needed there. Oooh lukey, i could go on but ill be kind...suffice to say i think he answered in more ways than one whether he should be a required player in 2013. For the upteenth time we had NO answer in the front half, nil sfa ....not sure it was good strategy going in with one ruck, gus may have been worth a shot....anyhow, a bit of work to do in the off season before we saddle back up
