Have at it.

Colyer was excellent, Melksham was good. Dell'Olio is intense.
The rest.... Eh.

BJ forgot his happy pills today.

Oh well, 6 in a row, Hawks were also very underwhelming today. Going to be a huge game next week.

Heppell still managed to win our disposal count, even with a player hanging off his dreadlocks at every contest.

Did Jets hit a target?
Bags, melk,dell, were good
Colyer was awsome
in terms of small forwards Merrett<Jetta-Kommer<Dell<Colyer

Meh, pretty ugly but a win is a win and we left plenty in the tank for next week. The pleasing thing was seeing guys like Colyer and Del come in and play well.

As bad as I thought the team was, it was really good to see how good Colyer can be, now that he has improved his kicking. Can't wait until we can get Watson and Hocking back, we got smashed in the contest.

Did Hawthorn preform worse than us? If you turn on TV you can see them win by 19.

pretty ordinary performance really, without Zaka, Watson and Hocking we really strugled all day around the stoppages.
But on the lighter side there were some very encouraging performances from Del, Colyer, Melksham and Heppel.

WTF?
Hawthorn will hope to regain stars Lance Franklin (knee) and Sam Mitchell (ill) for Friday night's MCG clash with Essendon

MCG! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?

We got the points which was obviously the main objective and biggest positive. Colyer played what I would consider his finest game for the club and I'm absolutely thrilled for him. It wasn't just his ability to hit the scoreboard at regular intervals, but it was his ability to carry the ball with pace and to take the game on when we were often far too stagnant for our own good. He was fantastic today and I really am wrapped with that individual performance. He didn't make many blunders by foot either which was really pleasing.

I thought Heppell persevered admirably with the intense, and at times bordering on illegal, tag that he received. I literally lost count at the number of times he was held and grabbed at the contest but I'm sure he'll have learned quite a lot from the few hours spent out there trying to counteract and break through it.

It was disappointing how easily and efficiently we allowed GWS to carry the ball out of our forward line also. We needed to bring our pressure and to really harass the opposition but for large portions of the game that aspect was essentially non-existent and as a consequence GWS were free to set up penetrating attacks from defence and turn them into goal scoring opportunities.

All in all, aside from the four points, Colyer was the shining light and his performance was the biggest positive to take out of the game. Dell'Olio showed why he should retain his spot in the side, and I thought O'Brien did a reasonably effective tagging role in limiting Ward's influence on the contest. My final thought is that both Merrett and Jetta should definitely be out of the side next week. Both just didn't do enough to warrant selection. It's probably harsh on Jetta but I think we'll have some handy inclusions this week and he didn't grasp his opportunity this afternoon.

- Heppell wouldn't have been (illegally) manhandled like that if Hocking was playing; we need this guy back ASAP
- Jetta is absolutely rubbish
- Hurley stood up when we needed him to, but I thought Barry Hall's comments on his leading patterns was pretty astute
- Kommer was good early before disappearing
- I think we're a better side without Crameri, and I love the guy
- Hibberd's touch has been off the past three weeks, probably due to the increased attention he's receiving
- Goddard needs to stop being so selfish and show why he's a supposed leader; I'm sick of his petulant shit
- Dempsey also needs to stop giving away needless 50's
- Colyer was superb
- We played 5 small forwards today: Colyer, Jetta, Kommer, Merrett, Dell'Olio. That's 2 or 3 too many, and I think a big part of why we had so many passengers

Thought the way Heppell dealt with the hard tag was exceptional. In 2-3 years when he gets around the 90kg mark he will be in the top handful of mids in the league.

Good defensively. Cameron is a freak, Giles is dangerous, but we held the rest well. Forwards still lack function. Fletcher making un-Fletcher like mistakes for the third week in a row. Expect this side next week:

Baguley - Carlisle - Fletcher
Hurley - Hooker - Hibberd
Dempsey - Hocking - Colyer
Ryder - Crameri - Goddard
Winderlich - Gumbleton - Dell'Olio
Bellchambers - Zaharakis - Stanton
Melksham - Heppell - Myers - Kommer (sub)

Of course if Buddy isn't playing either Fletcher or Gumbleton goes out.

Still lacking that breakaway clearance player, Kavanagh should have played instead of Jetta today..

Not too many positives:
TBC was pretty underwhelming today, really disappointed in him and Ryder today. Should have stamped themselves on the contest, only with 90 seconds left did Ryder really show that grit and determination to will himselves at the contest.

Kommer was good early, kicked the opener and had a good first quarter but dropped off dramatically midway through the second. 8 possessions, 6 tackles, good game? bad game? (1 goal)

Merret again lacked a little and i'd be confident in saying that had Winderlich got up, Merret would have missed out.

Crameri again struggled, i've gone on record saying that if he were to be traded/leave I wouldn't be too fazed as his form can be very up and down.

Midfield group was very underwhelming again today. Saved face by Heppel (23 possessions) Melksham (23), Stanton (23) and Myers (23). Absolutely smashed in the centre clearances 17 - 11 and were beaten 46 - 43 in the general clearances. We really did lack class around the stoppages, and a Ben Howlett, Elliot Kavanagh would have helped IMO. We were beaten on the spread by a team willing their young legs to every contest, to help their team mates out and apply pressure on us.

The positives:

Jake Melksham again showed why the TRB has stuck by him through some tumultuous times according the fans by putting in yet another stellar performance. Really kept us on top in the first half before that friendly fire from Hurley.

Just on Hurley, really liked his game today, still need him to be taking more marks (3 today ) but he hit the scoreboard again with a couple and showed the masses why we rate him so highly.

Trav Colyer im going to claim him, been a fan boi since day one and he showed why I do rate him. His pace alone helped him kick 3 of his goals and finished with 4 for the day. Loved the fact that he was linking up between the midfield and the forwards and could really be a weapon for us coming into the pointy part of the season. 16 possessions, 4 goals, 5 marks and a tackle (from an outside player :D) is a pretty bloody big game.

Corey Dell'Ollio was sensational in his first game for 2013, super with 9 tackles and managed a goal. Looked like he was playing KPF at times though, but was super.

Not too many more standout positived today, one could argue Heppel was good despite the attention he was getting. Just a quick shout out to Cale Hooker with his first goal for the year and a number of intercept marks again from big Cale.

And my god, is it time to start our annual bag the umpires thread? the one I was most disappointed at was the 'front on contact' towards Jeremy Cameron despite there being no god damn contact!!! And how many bloody times did they duck there heads? fuarrrrkkkkk me!!!

- Dell Olio i thought was brilliant, my main query was his tackling and pressure, but 8 tackles when no one else bothered was really pleasing, was robbed of another goal by Leroy.
- Melksham, Colyer & Myers i'll lump together, they're 3 high draft picks that haven't come along as quickly as some others, and ones that outsiders might overlook, but combined they had 62 touches, 25 contested possessions, 14 marks, 15 clearances , 75% DE, 7 tackles and 7 goals. I'm wrapped with that.
- Heppells ability to keep working and get himself into the game as he was getting scragged was very pleasing 7 clearances, 6 tackles and 12 contested possies are very solid numbers under a hard tag.
- NOB's job on Ward was very good, limited his impact, got some of the pill himself and kicked a good goal.
- Backs and forwards looked a tad disjointed today, which is disappointing, but i'm willing to call it an off day. Hurley got thrown back and forward, but I thought he actually worked into the game pretty well. we're all calling him out, but he's still getting his 2-3 and a couple of assists, he's vital for our forward structure.
Goddard had an absolute mare, yet got it 18 times, used it well and kicked a goal. he's still worth every penny.

Can't help but think Hocking or Howlett would have really helped out Heppell and Goddard in particular. At least one must come back in next week
