First Q he dived across a pack at a little contact from Hooker and kicked the goal. Plus that downfield was clearly a dive, Melksham barely touched him

Well, let's not forget the first goal of the game hit the post. And Buddy was felled by Carlile without penalty. The end result was 11-8, so it's indicative of the umpires letting it go. To be honest, there might have been (literally) one or two goals going to us as a result of wrong decisions, but most of the frees we got were there. I think the reaction to it was caused more than anything by an already angry group of fans turning up to the ground.

All clubs have their dickhead supporters, whilst I was proud of our players ,you are correct, some of our fans let the Hawks brand down last night. whilst we cant stand the bombers due to the rivalry between the clubs its best to win with a bit of grace, some of us took it over the line last night and as a Hawks supporter I 'll apologies for our feral element, after all we dont want to be classed with collingwood supporters.

Yeah most seemed well behaved.

Only ones that I noticed on the night was behind Ess cheer squad late in the game, a big group of Hawks supporters descended, most were find, but felt it was only going to cause trouble, there were Hawks around me that were good al game,

Thought we started off well, but once the pressue went off and they were able to play their keeping off game we were cooked. Hepp, Melk and Paddy tried all night - Paddy was one of the few to provide a lead up through the wing when the ball was coming out of the backline. Too many unforced errors going forward, as well as our inability to convert cost us. And that so and so Franklin. Man does he love playing against us.

I thought Hurls looked better in the forward line the more the game went on, but he needs to convert - 2 east shots missed in the last took a little gloss off. As much as people were pissed at the umpiring it was easy to see they were going to let it go, which suited Hawthorn's bigger bodied mids - our guys just couldn't compete. Had no bearing on the match IMO, though it would have been nice had they reviewed Franklin's goal. At the game it looked like it may have been touched, certainly close enough to have gone upstairs. If they are going to have the system, why not use it?

One thing that did interest me was Hawthorn's tactic at the centre bounce - nearly every time whoever was rucking would cross the centre line and take Paddy or Ding Dongs run away. I think they got pinged for sheperding once but it was a clever idea to nullify our ruck advantage. I was a little dissappointed that we didn't seem to try anything different to counter it.

All in all they were just too good on the night. Some good signs for us but also plenty to work on.

Carn Bombers!!!!!!!!!

Yeh, I saw that unfolding from a distance in the last quarter. Alcohol at the footy can indeed become a problem. I was quite embarrassed by my own supporters last night. And very sorry to the Essendon supporters who were sucked in by the provocation, especially a group of young girls who were harrassed - it's very easy to be taunted when your team's having a shit night like that, and the Hawks fans in question were definitely not on to do that.

Go onto the Hawks board to congratulate them on their win only to be on the receiving end of some verbal tirades by several posters. Quite perplexing that you go and congratulate someone and they simply spit in your face. Pathetic really especially when the posts are made by experienced posters.

Piss n Poo they are

Umpiring had no impact on the game but the decisions that made no sense were Hodge clearly tripping Ryder.

Fletcher would (and has) get 2-3 weeks for that, Hodge not even a free kick. Umpires are a joke.

As you said though, not effect on the outcome of the game. Flogged by a far superior team. I hope it is the reality check we need to take it to the next level.

Good morning guys

Just checking in to say that you were a far superior team on the night. We may have been missing several of our best players, but the way you dismantled any form of game plan we had was astounding and showed us the benchmark we need to reach to become a formidable power.

Your kicking skills have killed us in the past, but your retention rate was at a high, and showed quite convincingly on the scoreboard (22.11).

As Hird said in his post match press conference, if you contain Buddy (which we did in the third), then Roughead (4 goals) will get you, and if not, then Gunston (2 goals) or Breust (2 goals) will get you, and if none of them then some bloke called Cyril just makes things happen.

I was as bad as anyone bagging the umpires, but upon watching the replay, you guys far and away outplayed us. Well played guys and good luck for the rest of the year :thumbsu:

Go Dons

I'd say that Jobe, Fletcher would surpass Burgoyne and Birchall whilst Winderlich and Gumby (who should have played instead of Joe Daniher) would be close enough to Suckling and Schoenmakes. Davey and would trail Shiels however Merret surpasses Woodward (sp?)

So yeah, they were massive for us. You guys cover your injuries better than almost anyone. We quite can't just yet..

I come in here, sing your praises and you go on to show no modesty in the win. I'd be confident in saying majority of the league are stoked your 'superstar' team has one (very) lucky premiership to there name.

You are acting like your 8 not 28, how bout be gracious in defeat and not some imbecilic arrogant flog every opposition supporter wants to slap in the mouth.

On the back of these posts they think i didn't want to have a civilized conversation. From this point onwards they tried to call me names, get under my skin and so forth but to no avail. The power of Yoda lives on :p

But seriously, going to put them in the same category as North supporters.

I was trying to have a conversation with them and all they do is try and sing off there high horses like the Bttle of Troy or some s*** like that.

I think their reaction is just a representation on how most posters feel toward Essendon at the moment. They have been fed information for 6 months, and some of them would by dying to jump on our board and let us know their thoughts and feelings. They can't do that, so when we venture outside this community, some take the chance to take a swipe. Add to that, you're a mod, which can put a target on your back for some people.

We can't control anyone but ourselves, and others responses shouldnt change who we are or give us an excuse to be a low life. Good on you for posting with class, it's a good example for all of us :thumbsu:

Completely agree with this pal! Worst part is, it's a game. It's not life and death, not playing for sheep stations etc. the way some have acted throughout this whole saga has been disappointing. I try and make a decent conversation and get shot down, try again, get shot down. Call them out on the group think idiocy of that board and I'm the lesser one.

Being a mod sucks sometimes, I try not to change my posting too much. The vitriol I would spit out otherwise has probably saved a few hours of the Admins time.

Don't tend to venture outside our board (bar the board I mod - D&T) but simply though I was doing something nice..

I mod the D&T board with you, here, M&E, Combat, Health and Fitness (I think that's all ), and one thing has become clear to me. On the boards that aren't footy related, it's a complete joy to mod. Most of the time people are civil and helpful. When you add football rivalry into the mix, some chose to use it as an excuse to act like animals.

I have to say that being a mod has helped me to see that I am responsible for how I act and not to use something else as justification for poor behaviour. That's why I liked what you posted. I wish that more people could see this and not hide behind a keyboard or change who they are because of a game.

When the report does come out I genuinely fear for some Essendon supporters who will get overwhelmed by society's acceptance to put others down to favourite themselves and their own self esteem..

Is it my imagination. but did JD fail to get even one marking attempt in the forward 50 - whether in a leading situation or in a pack situation.

Getting smashed in the midfield so badly makes it tough for a 3rd game KPF that's for sure...

100% efficiency and did some good things. He was not good but by no means bad.

I thought he was very ordinary, made some elementary mistakes in the back half, shat his pants in the backline at one stage when Buddy was chasing him and got his pants pulled down in marking contests after repeatedly running under the ball and misjudging it, defenders need to defend first and he doesn't do it.

These days the lead up forward is starting fairly high. It kills our half backs and mids that there isn't a big guy steaming towards them when they look up. It means that running players further up the ground feed off him and the the kick goes long into a Hurley or resting ruck .... where a small forward has enough space and time to tear it up with the crumbs.

I think Gumby is the man ... in unison with Winderlich ... who aint big but leads up very well.
I think the forward structure that the team is used to (and has played best with) has been when Crams and Licka lead strong up the wings and the mids push forward through the center. We really missed the presence of those two structurally because nothing else we have tried this season has worked. The team just cannot seem to function with a half forward... Maybe because of the defensive mindset and zone structure that has been drilled into them.

Lots of comments about how we are not good enough yet...
We just copped the Squawks at their absolute best, plus they had solid assistance from the umpires. To my mind it was lost in the midfield on the inside. Who knows how it would have gone with Jobe in there and Hocking in better form? Add Crameri and Licka to that equation and you have an unrepresentative game.
That game told us nothing about how good or bad our team is, or how good or bad our game plan is.

They had players out also though, Good sides should be able to find a way to win no matter who is in or out of the team.

May have been the case, although there were limited opportunities.

There was also one situation early where he was leading straight up the middle, created distance against his man, would have been a certain mark 40m out. Instead his teammate bombed it long for a point from outside 50.

Didn't do much on Friday but his teammates didn't give a lot of opportunities. Hard to have an effect when your midfield can't get their hands on it.
