What do you reckon about AVESCO signing on to have a V8 race in China?
Personally, i'm a bit torn.
On one hand, its good that the V8's are getting some world exposure. They already go to NZ, but that's only 5-6 away on a plane. If this event goes well, you could see an event in other cities - USA, UK, Europe, even the Middle East. That can only be good for the sport.
On the other hand, its bad that its now being taken away from the fans who made the sport what it is today. With Queensland losing the QLD 500
, and already losing such tracks like Calder Park and Canberra, its becoming very hard for the die-hard supporters of V8 racing to go to the races - I mean a 3 day pass to the Indy costs almost $120 - and that's general admission. I know political decision brought the downfall of Canberra, but I reckon they need to spend some money in upgrading some of the tracks in Australia - and realise that the reverse grid could be a good idea - just don't use it on a course like Canberra!.
Like the AFL, V8 Racing is quickly becoming more of a business than a sport, so its all about the almighty dollar. And they probably figure that they would get more money from the TV rights in the race in China, than to stage a race at Calder Park, Lakeside, Willobank or Canberra.
