What I said about OM's might be spot on. In all my years following footy, it's pretty bad to have a form slump just a week out from the finals. Look at Old Xaverians in its era of power in A Section, they timed their runs to perfection, didn't have a form slump in the run-up to the finals and ended up winning 6 A Section flags in a row between 1995 and 2000. Some people (including yours truly) reckon the Old Xaverians team 1995-2000 is possibly the greatest VAFA club side of the modern era.Not many teams win 6 flags in a row in possibly the toughest section in VAFA-A Section, especially against sides such as St Kevins, Uni Blues, Old Scotch.

Jas can you get me the results of Old Xavs last 5 rounds in each season from 1995 - 2000...just so u can back it up. THANKYOU...

Iancave i would like to get your finals predictions or if you dont have time pass this request onto your right hand man...thankyou for your time

I am nervous that Jase has let to many cats out of the bag Milkman even Timmy agrees,Rovers will make the GF,but their oppponent will not be Oakleigh, your mob has beaten the Krushers twice easily even with 6-8 out in game two.

So a Rovers OM's GF anything could happen..............

Even Clint Ferguson reckons I'm right.....

See you at Trevor Barker GF day Milkman................

OM's would need a massive improvement on the performance they served up on Saturday to even win a final. They were beaten in every position, soft at the contests and their on-ballers looked tired/uncommitted when running back into defence.

It doesn't help having such a w*#ker as their Coach. Arguing with BT supporters on the hill, turning his back on play etc. The President of OM's must be kicking himself that he and his Committee have appointed McGee this year. They have so many young, impressionable and talented players (not to mention a good Unders set-up) that are learning the wrong way to go about things.

What do you think MILK?

To all D1 finals teams (and this include Hampton Rovers)
Just a reminder 1 week out from the finals:

There is a massive difference between Home & Away level & finals football. In finals, the standard of football goes up a notch or two. As a coach you'd have to be 100% focussed on the job at hand ie working out match-ups (very important), try to keep calm and not go overboard, especially if the other team gets a run on.To the players of all the finals participants (yes, this include you, Rovers) don't make any mistakes, don't get reported, and most important of all, don't argue with umpires, even if things don't go your way. Rely on players who have played in finals before to lead the way.

And the most important piece of advice:

If you make it into the grand final, don't go overboard like what Beaumaris did in 1998 by putting out things like T-Shirts, Caps etc proclaming you premiers, even though there's one match to go. Save that stuff after the grand final. The Sharks were completely over-confident, thinking that the premiership was already won-even before the actual game, and the Rovers made them pay.

If he's been THAT bad then why don't the Committee remove him Malcolm Blight-style? Afterall, they booted Russo last year with barely an explanation...

Russo was outdated. He'd been there too long. And I'm very gwad our decision to go with Gary Sheldon over McGee was made. McGee's supposed to be the face of his cwrub and I don't think he does a gwreat job of it.

Jason - I think you're being a silly sausage with all these references to Hampton Rovers. Why don't you let our man Gary do the coaching. He's done a fantastic job so far. Oooh, I just can't wait for our boys to get out there in their cute writtle shorts and run rings around those Oakleigh boys on Saturday.

And I still sleep in my Beaumaris Premiers '98 shirt sometimes. Reminds me of such wonderful times down at the Rovers.

How about if Richmond & Old Mentonians do a swap. The Tigers get Ben McGee (after all, Richmond needs someone to spark up the club and McGee would be the man to do it-not Kevin Sheedy) and Old Mentonians get Terry Wallace (and add Greg Miller to that equation as well). I think the Panthers need someone who is media friendly, can do a lot of spin doctoring and would provide the Panthers with a five year plan-something T.Wallace is very good at doing.

Ha. You tell 'em Jase. That must exactly what the Tiges need. Some goose flapping his gums and bringing more attention to the club and their misfortunes. And I'm sure Mentone can find the money to accommodate Terry Wallace's needs. See what the people on the Richmond thread think. Could be a real goer. Maybe start a poll on the Tiger thread and ask them? You're a pioneer of sorts Jason.

Boris - there's a strong rumour floating that McGee will be gone at year's end no matter what the result. Don't think a "Blight-style" sacking would be appropriate at this time of year. Especially with the "slump" they're in.

Michael Flahive, don't you get sick of continuously logging in and out all day posting as all your alias's (not to mention setting up email address's for them all)? How many are you up to now, have you hit double figures? And another question, are they all on 'the list'?

I actually heard a rumour that McGee is getting itchy feet and wants to pull on the boots again. Word has it he'll be sitting in the forward pocket this Saturday. From all reports he was quite a handy goal sneak in his time. Think along the lines of Nick Davis or Phil Matera.

Jas,
you can have Rod Butters as Media Liason Officer! we don't want him!

Stick to the D1 topic Jason. Take your Tigers talk over to their thread.

Back on the topic.... does anyone know more about the reserves game between OG's and Therry. There was talk that the game wasn't going to go ahead due to the ground condition. Playing at Como early in the year, that was probably a ground that had held up better than others during the "drought". Would've thought it to be a bit boggy at worst.

If there was a betting market on things like D1 Premiership, B & f, Coach of the Year, what would it look like?

PS Kevin Sheedy will be appointed coach of Melbourne soon.

perhaps terry wallace would be better off at BT. after all finishing 5th two years in a row in the vafa is akin to 9th in the afl....he'd fit in great!

Does this bring back memories of Kevin Sheedy when he was first appointed Essendon coach back in 1981, where the Bombers were going through a tough time he first thought about pulling on the boots again-then changed his mind?

Not at all Jase!

Terry played juniors with the ants and is often seen at the club on Saturdays when the not involved with Richmond. I just dont think we could get enough media interest in ""Tuesday's with Terry at the Tempy"..... got a nice ring to it thou.......

I agree with uglydermie-'Tuesdays at the Temp with Terry' has a nice sound to it. uglydermie, apart from Terry Wallace, what about Greg Miller-you can have him. He's useless!!!

Anyway here's my tips for Round 18 courtesy of TAB Sportsbet:

HamptonRovers/Oakleigh-draw
Prahran by 85pts
Bull.Temp. by 40pts
Old Geelong by 37pts
Peninsula by 23 pts

Just for a bit of trivia-I've been doing the interchange at the Rovers for 12 years and I've never been witness to a draw up to this week involving the Rovers at Boss James-could things change? And the reason why I tipped a draw between the Rovers and Oakleigh is that the last time these two sides met, the result was 3 points Rovers way. When you have two teams that are so close in terms of playing ability and played in a extremely close encounter last time, a draw may not be far off. What chance a draw in the Rovers/Oakleigh game anyway?

Jas, I agree that HR and Oak are very even teams. both have bigger bodied, more mature players. I was very impressed with Oakleigh when they came out to Ted Ajani. Should be a great game. Good luck to the Rovers.
