VAFA D1 new thread for 2007

It wasn't quite unprevoked... he threw the first one. The wrong bloke missed a semi due to bullshit evidence (knowingly or unknowingly provided by Hampton). It was Oakleighs word against Hamptons and the "Independant" adjudicator got it wrong.

Congratulations anyway on a great year im sure there will be many fantastic games between us rotten district clubs in the future.

PS. Oakleigh has changed its name to Old Oakleigh Grammar Krusherians.

Oakleigh changed their story a number of occassions. The VAFA knew they were been played around with. A number of different players were brought forward as the apparant offender. Then in the appeal, a number of photos were produced by Oakleigh. Oakleigh claimed these were taken during the initial incident, however they were a clear 15 or so second after indicent as there were a number of Rovers players also in the group (during the initial incident, there was only 1 Hampton player and 4 Oakleigh players). It was also claimed by Oakleigh these were 'still photos' and that there weren't any taken at an earlier stage. I studied these photos and was 100% confident that these were in fact screenshots taken from a video camera (since when does a digital camera take photos the exact dimensions of a 16:9 widescreen tv, with crap picture quality and no file properties?). So, why wasn't the whole video shown? Did it show something Oakleigh didn't want others to see? The VAFA was told all this but the tribunal was soft. Just wanted to clear that up. It's a shame a player has been rubbed out for 4 weeks for something he didn't do. Anyway we've all moved on (except for the Oakleigh coach obviously), and both clubs can look forward to C Section in 2008, while Ben McGee can enjoy D1 again and abusing opposition players, getting sucked in, making a fool of himself, dragging his great club's name through the gutter, if he gets the go-ahead. I know the VAFA are concerned about his antics and will be keeping a close eye on him next year.

And btw, go the district clubs!! Next year we've got Hampton, Oakleigh, Ormond, Parkdale, Rupertswood all in C while Beaumaris up in B.

Two contrasting seasons that brought two flags to the club, '06's side went long and direct to Billy McGee, what ever Bill didn't mark Jack Cronan crumbed and goaled, it was predictable but deadly and was held together by a super tight defence. Bill retired after that flag and the team now has a larger spread of scoring options and still has a great defence. The midfield are a solid unit although we will be making a play for Chris Judd. CU is correct in that there is a good spread of talls and run, most blokes are between 22 - 27 and I wouldn't have thought many would walk from the club after back to back flags even with some $ on offer elsewhere. We're lucky in that we seem to attract players from the area that are good enough to make decent coin at St Kilda City or Port Colts but choose to play with their mates at a great old club in South. Many have come up through our Juniors.

Specky is a different coach.. but it works.. how does a team go from 7th to 2nd?? and they only recuited one player. Ben McGee is gonna coach next year at the OM's and he will bring us a flag. He gets white line fever.. and is only trying to stick up for his young pups. lay off him.. we went one second, one point from c grade.. i recon he is pretty much safe...

if he was on ur team, u would see how much time he has put in.. its to point of being silly sometimes, he lives and breaths mentone. He has a bad record.. everyone knows that, but if he takes OM's to C Grade, i dont think anyone at the club cares how many noses are put out of joint....

No chance of these 2 mate. Saul would kick 200 in this comp and im not exaggerating either. Played with him for a year and is an absolute freak. No-one could man him up in the VAFA.
Maybe Matthew Bellingham could be wearing the red and white.

Is there a big difference between D2 and D1. There was not a great difference from D3 and D2. I know Rupertswood basically went all the way up to C. STill remember playing them out there 4 years ago and beating them.
All i know is that there is some travelling to be done next year.

If you look at the 2007 season, just about all Grand Finals this year will feature a side that was promoted the year before:

A - O Brighton
B - St Bedes
C - O Carey
D1 - Oakleigh
D2 - Sth Melb
D3 - Hawthorn ? (not 100% sure on that one).

So on that evidence, at least one of the two newly promoted sides are a good show to be (at least) competetive moving up a grade. Maybe the grades are evening up a little?

It's very biased but if SMD can keep same side together and maybe get a few more players then we will be right up there. Unbelievable how young the side is. I think some sides will be suprised at the level both SMD and Aquinas can play at.

judging on the tripe Aquinas dished up last time they were in D1, if they win a game I would say plenty of people will be suprised. Worst side ever..along with Glen Eira that year.

Yeah, it was situated in the David Street/Bluff Rd pocket where some of the Oakleigh reserves players were (the ones who got their club fined for calling the umpire a f'ing c, not the opposite pocket where a heap of them got their club fined for drinking).

are you talking about the same umpire who took down 4 incorrect numbers (one bloke was 100ms away when the incident occurred ? and another was a number not even playing but lets just pick 4 numbers and show that we had "control" of the situation

There is no way those images were taken from the David st/Bluff rd corner. I know that ground really well and the angles don't work. You would have the cricket nets in the shots. I have done a lot of professional photography over the years and I can only conclude that it has to be from the pavilion side.

Interesting statement considering some of teh players who have gone through this grade- how does he rate against Parton, Collins, V-W, Dermie,Tim Davis,Greenham,Sleight,Bevan,Chivers ? Just to name a few?
