Whilst the Reds have done well to progress up the ranks thus far, they will find it very difficult to progress past C Grade. Unfortunately, for district sides, they don't have the yearly influx of young players that the private school teams have. Without payment, they really can't offer players much and find it difficult to recruit.

Some truth here, though with the Reds there is still a comparatively strong uni link.

And really, with a goose like MobbenFunker, who would want to go there anyway?

Pray tell, what did I do to induce your angst, Benny?

Me...down to the ice-cold enjoyment of Old Brighton and NOBS by the Bay. Might need 2 full layers this week :p

Keep an eye on a few of the NOBS boys for me tomorrow Pazza - Greg Irvin and Brendan Sheehan are playing their first senior games tomorrow, blokes that have come up through the now-defunct Under 19's

Mobben,

I see that you ignored the rumours about your beloved captain and his ties to returning to Kangaroo Flat. Ignorance is bliss i guess. But honestly would he really be missed that much?

What is the current rumour? I don't recall one being posted about any Ftizroy Reds player flying the coup. Who is the captain and what are his credentials?

Done. Got this feeling that Minton-Connell is going to try and put my back out with another bag....

Vin Cahill is returning to Kangaroo Flat next year and playing his footy in that region. Over-rated Vin Cahill, no need to tag him, just give him a free run and watch him hit the opposition on the chest with every single kick - its like having 19 players on the ground.

Thank you for explaining this further in the post following this one. I saw someone mention a Reds ruckman captain who wears a helmet. As no such creature exists, presumed they were having a difficult time with their grammar and let it go through to the keeper.

Here it is (from someone presenting themselves as 'twoblues') :

Any club that praises such a soft, ugly, helmet wearing, girl like running gayman that drops his handbag every time he goes up in the ruck have got to look at themselves in the mirror and question their sexuality.

I was just astounded at the allegation that Cahill is a ruckman! twoblues also stated that he/she was at the match and yet thought he'she'd be taken seriously. Ruckman? Sheezus, try harder.

Ok just saw your post, justin timberlake. Thanks for not hurling abuse at me this time ... although 'Mobbenfunky', well ...

Mobbenfunky,

From all reports Vin Cahill has a bit of the "Luke Power syndrome" - good a good team, but will not stand up and be counted when the going gets tough. I hear rumours he may be playing footy back in Kangaroo Flat next season? Not what you want from the leader of your club. Do you think the loss on the weekend is just the start of things to come? It may all start to unravel, a bit like N*Sync's last album........... It still hurts when i think about it.

I don't know much about Luke Power, but Vin Cahill, obviously the player you've heard of from the Reds and therefore the only one you can bag, seems to be consistent in general. As a spectator, I don't see him much, as usually the KPPs are more noticeable to the observer, especially in a successful club.

Didn't know he came from Kangaroo Flat, had heard nothing of these rumours, but I wouldn't know. You see, you guys seem to like rumours, and the rest of us like football. Go figure. We're more likely to miss a certain wingman who left the country on one of those working holiday thingos after the Glen Eira match.

I also didn't realise he was the 'leader' of the club. I thought that would have been someone like Todd thingememob.

The loss on the weekend is probably not a sign of things to come, but it is a sign that the team is not unbeatable, and wouldn't want to turn on one of those efforts in a Grand Final. Quite simply, if they did, they'd probably not win.

When it comes to N*Sync's latest album, I wouldn't know it, nor would I know their earliest. I haven't paid attention to current music for a good 10 years.

Hope that puts your fears of unresponsiveness to rest. Thank you for the opportunity to chat more about the Reds. You have been most accommodating.

Well, at least I've heard of Celine Dion. No, my taste in music is much worse than that. You can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind.

Clean sweep to the Reds today according to reports, with seniors, reserves, u19s, and both clubbies winning.

Back on top, with the unfortunate tragedy of Old Carey being pipped at the post by the Monders.

In fact, Ormond have snatched 2nd spot. Next week shapes up as a heck of an encounter between 1st (Reds) and 3rd (Old Carey).

Prahran (that club full of people who thinks Vin Cahill is a ruckman), buoyed by YVOB going down, sneak into 4th place.

The OC knock off St Kevins in a spite filled clash.

It's now a 4 horse race to climb out of the relegation zone.

And God blessed with the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Genesis 2:3

With no games this weekend, God has allowed all players par-ty down!

Tell us more.

Being the 2004 B Grade Grand Final replay it was always going to carry a fair bit of spite. Exccellent delivery into the forward line by the OC midfielders meant that myself and big Jorgensen proved too strong for the SKOB defeneders and kicked 11 goals between us. A very interesting game note is that Jorgensen was picked in the reserves for Saturday's game but was called up into the seniors on Saturday morning. Get on The OC for a massive upset against Uni Blues at the Trott in 2 weeks time.

3. What's your bet? You lot or Murrumbeena?

We'll stay up.
We've lost a lot of players through injury this year, something like 8 players from last years grand final side.
apart from the last 2 weeks, we've been up with the better sides, led at half time against East Brighton, out played Balwyn & St. Pauls but fell away in the last 1/4 of both games and we have a easier next 4 weeks after the break.
Last week was a big disappointment, we looked tired and just didn't want to run. We got one big name back to the club over the last few weeks and he was BOG for us on the w/e.

Last time we played Murrumbeena we had a few bad calls in our forward line and kicked bad when we had the ball in our forward line.

Any news on how Brent Walsh, brother of young Bulldog Tim, has been playing for Trinity this year?

I hear he wasn't too happy at missing out on the top 40 Ammo's players in the record

I umpired about 5-6 Trinity games last season when Brent was sensational, but having only seem him in 1 game this year he seems to be disillushioned with the game after being run down late last season for the A grade goal kicking award by Gertsman and arch rival Cullinan.

Jono Dixon appears to have stolen my thunder and given the report on the St Kevins V Collegians clash. Jono hit the nail on the head when he said the OC delivery into the forward line was much better than St Kevins delievery. Lucas from St Kevins can hold his head up after kicking 5 on an otherwise dirty day for St Kevins.

Nuffy,

As per your previous post re: OTs -v- St Kevins where you claimed Mick Giansiracusa kicked 5 goals on Kristian Butler, you are way off the mark. Still, as long as you're calling the goals & points correctly, we can't complain too much.

For the record:
1. Brent Walsh is our vice-captain this season, and has missed 3 games through hamstring problems. He's got no problems with the game, is highly motivated and to suggest otherwise is simply idle speculation and without foundation.

Due to the departure of Lachlan Kennedy (Bell Park - Geelong FL) & Gabe-Deane Johns (retired), he's been required to play more as a CHF, unless Rambo has been "resting" there for a few minutes. Hence he hasn't been bagging as many goals. Fortunately Cults has chimed in nicely a few times with bags of 6 and 7 (though Jono's mob did a great blanket job on him in Rd 5). Lincoln Reynolds has also played forward more to ensure we have enough tall timber.

After the break, Walshy should be back to full strength, and hopefully our forwardline will continue to receive the sort of quality delivery they got on Saturday (resulting in 38 scoring shots to 19).

2. Kristian Butler has battled a knee problem, only played his first game this season in the Twos on Saturday, and got through well. The Buttler who is actually in the U23 squad is Damien (ex-Bullants), and would be close to leading our B&F with Beardsley and Ramsden. Don't believe he played much on Gino against SKOBS, it was the ever-reliable David Burrows who was on the wrong player at the wrong time (i.e. when he was on fire and kicking goals)

Having said all of the above, it's good to get a goal umpire's view on things, especially as few here tend to comment on A Grade machinations. Jono's got it right with many sides in the battle for relegation but....given the recent form slump at the Cardinals, don't presume it's only 4 sides!!!!

Cheers

The Scribe

A good performance by yourself Jono, but do remeber, Pope is a spud and you beat nobody.

It was a shame that Tim Duggan had a refcurrence of his Gooch problem, this time it was so bad that he hurt his shoulder in the same incident, all in the first 5 minutes of the game.

StKevin's did nothing to dispel the theory that they sleep with the lights on. Seems they don't recover well from trips to Essendon (SnakePit and the household of a certain Old Essendon player) Other than Matt Lucas, none of them looked any good.

News out of the umps is that young goalie Kofoed is out for a number of weeks due to a damaged knee. Matt Kent is heading up to A grade.

Rep weekend this week sees the following goalies go up:

U/19 North v South: Paul Gatt and Andrew Esposito
VAFA v SFL: Chris Doyle

Amongst other appointments, umpire Firley heads to Perth for the WAAFL v VAFA match and umpire Sutcliffe has the VAFA v SFL match.
