Ahh Alphonse

Any story involving Nicholson really floats my boat. My fave is when Bernards beat Haileybury in the first round last year (after some dingbat tipped the Bloods to win the flag and St Bs to come ninth) Nicho has clapped Haileybury off the ground (whilst getting on his knees to bow) yelling out "Look at 'em boys, The Premiers, all hail the Premiers, Oh Please won't you teach us how to play Premiers"

Also when Dan Jordan kept missing training Nicho drove him from Sunbury to the 'Pit (what a pleasant drive) and Dan got so chessed off with him talking about footy that he asked to be let out. Jordo wasn't seen for ages after that.

And yes, Ryan Chard is a great mark. Other great amateur markologists include Matt Bourke from Xavier, Jordan and Mannix from De La. All quite similar players. I remember Ben Mannix taking 13 marks in a quarter one day, most of them one handed, some of them whilst lying on his back. You could never really rely on him but at least 2/3 times per year, he just goes beserk. Lovely guy Benny.

Gents, whilst we talk about the great Nicho, is it true that the bad men from the Badlands have sacked him? Scribe 2, can you research? Hold on, that damn phone is ringing again and Sholls is at Divina's house having lunch...Amateur Football, good afternoon Brian speaking...

Fitzroy Reds have performed fantastically to reach C grade. They will definitely be competitive in C grade and push for finals. Why the smart remark about them thinking they are good?

They have come from D3. Doesnt their record speak for themselves?

The idea of fair to middlin' with finals appearance not out of the question and a flag a longh shot but not impossible rests easy with me.

Caveman I think its 'cause of my talking up of the Reds that the impression is given they are plenty of talk. EG how many times has someone posted the results of, say, Yarra Valley OB, or mentioned their performance from last season.

Many clubs have done well recently, Ormond arresting their slide, Uni Blacks flying up the charts, to name a couple. But they're story isn't being stuffed down the throats of the masses by yours truly, as has the meteoric rise of the Reds :D

It is definitely possible that the Reds aren't as good as I say they are! ;)

I'll give myself up Brian Speaking, I am a quite partial to Uni Blues which means I saw the R1 game you are referring to. To say that 4 goals is a narrow loss when SKOB were down at every change is simply clutching at straws. Can someone down at SKOB just admit that they could not cut the mustard in 2005?

To add to the Chard argument, I can understand that people like to back their own players' abilities so I therefore think it best that people from other clubs are better judges of opposition players. In saying this, I believe that none of the top 6 'A' Grade clubs in 2005 would have preferred Chard to their respective CHF.

Scribe 2, I am also a huge fan of Nico's antics. I recall one day at Uni when he was at Bernies proclaiming to his players at a 3Q time huddle that "all the Uni Blues players do all day is sit in a huddle and sing coom bye ya". Very amusing stuff.

Unfortunately, I don't veture within 10 kms of the Badlands after certain comments this year(which means I haven't seen my girlfriend for six months). But this would be big news. Maybe there are a lot of water skiers down at McKinnon... Perhaps Peter could take on the assistant coaching role at St Kevin's, following Tony Miller's recent departure. That would get them back to Righetti.

Bendigo, apart from Georgie, can you name the CHF's at those other clubs please?
Whilst we are talking Blues, how is 'issues Rigby' travelling? Still president of the high maintenance players association?
This is itself probably lays truth to the SKOB slide. Too many ********ers used to play for the club, Lowerson, Ciavola, The Giansiracusa's, Pickford, Grinter, Rigby, Kemptons, Bevaqua, Sibilia, Villella(all Uni Blacks guns now) etc and I think the club got to the point where they were over them. Less success but a happier club.

Bendigo

Yes Nicho has a penchant for slagging off the Blues (despite the fact that Uni brain them every time they play). According to one of the gun yougsters from last year, Nicco loved going through the courses that the Uni players were supposedly studying (none of which were correct)
In the middle of a 3/4 time speech he would yell things like "And Lowcock, he's too busy studying women's studies!" "Ha Wilcox, he couldn't even pass first year commerce" and his famous one "you playing via correspondance De Crespigny!"
Mind you, the Blues were usually, like, 20 goals up at the time.

With the Bloods rumoured to be taking a leaf from the Haileybury APS team-building playbook, and loading up for next season, I would think expect that Polyester Pete will be back.

Bendigo, Scribe and Benny,

you seem to want to pass judgement on SKOB being crap very quickly. I think you are either former disgruntled palyers who could not get a game during the SKOB halcyon days of 1996 to 2003 or are a former U19 coach who the whole Ammo community knows has serious issues with anything remarkedly close to SKOB, except trying to entice their players.
If you take a look at their season, you will find that they in fact showed alot of ticker, and were in situations to winat least 9 games. If not for some St Bernards flooky goals in 2 minutes of madness early in the season, and State CHB Garvey breaking his foot two minutes after former U19 state rep Duggan suffered a season ending injury against the Lions the follwing week, then then season may have painted a prettier picture.
If you saw as many SKOB games as you say you did, you must have been impressed with a narrow loss to Uni Blues round one, a barnstorming 3rd quarter to put OM's away, some Lucas magic against the OT's, 99% of the aforementioned game at the Pit, as well as the heartbreaking losses to OX and OH late in the season.
I am sure you also choose to ignore the thumping of Marcellin in round 18.
If you are going to contribute you two people, at least try and make sense!
As far as Chard goes, I honestly think that he has no peer in the comp. Ask any oppostion coach and they would probably agree, as do several 'bigwigs' here at Ammo headquarters.
Now H, I mean Scribe2, as far as the Rock goes, watch out. He will destroy sides, as he did in A Section before he has that damn injury. He should realise though that Rocks sink to the bottom of the pool, so maybe another form of activity would be better. As far as Grahams' mate goes, watch this space, or come down to training and see for yourself.
Alas, I must answer the phones here at HQ as Brett's departure has left us short staffed...Amateur Football, good afternoon, BRIAN SPEAKING!!!

Brian,

Consider the following:

1. You're obviously new to this forum, I'm a currently Old Trinity player, and saw SKOB twice. Due to my lack of skill and ability, on both occasions I watched from the sidelines after playing the curtain-raiser. Once they belted us by 50 points at Righetti, the next time they imploded at Bulleen.

2. I didn't pass judgement on SKOB itself, if anything, should you properly read my previous post, I empathised with their situation as Trinity were in a similar state of up/down vacillation for the best part of the 90's. I simply stated, basically, that some of their 'name' players should not go missing and show more ticker. The more ticker the talent shows, the greater the A Grade quality grows.

3. The round 18 thumping of Marcellin was played against a side who weren't even mathematical chances of making finals. Still, a good way to finish off the season, but I've little doubt most SKOB faithful would be scratching their heads wondering why such a performance was left for round 18, instead of rolled out at, say round 13 or 14?

4. The state CHF was Ramsden, who is actually the state ruckman. Whilst I think there's a genuine dearth of quality CHFs in the VAFA at present, the likes of Hope (OI), Madden (StB), McKinnon (UB), Wigney (OS), Ford (OH), Mollard (OX), Healy (OT), would probably have genuine claims superior to Ryan Chard.

Luke O'Sullivan from St Bernard's was as good as any on his day. Bit hot and cold, but was the key to the St Bernard's structure in 2002-04, leading creating space for Hollywood and D Jordan. His loss last year while not getting the press of the others was keenly felt. Could take a hanger.

Still O/S possibly returning late 2006.

Alphonse,

Can you do a C grade review as well? :)

Unfortunatly that is not possible as that is the grade we are in, so would create to much ammo. It is a shame as i would like to target the Reds and Parade in particular.

In response to your earlier post i respect Uni Reds but i know quite a few players in their squad and they are certainly over confident of waltzing through C as they did D. That wont happen. Remember they have not seen this level before and for clubs like NOBS, it is a dark day to be even in C Grade.

I think matches between the Fitzroy Reds and NOB's will be a big feature of C-Grade in 2006 & coud develop into a keen rivalry. It should be celebrated with a trophy, the Red-NOB Cup has a nice ring to it :D

Actually I think exactly that is actually happening in reality.

Alphonse, I was not aware the players felt the same lack of shame as do I. As a fan, I have more leeway! Would you say that players thinking they will 'waltz' through C Grade bears a touch of arrogance???

It will be great to see a Reds v NOBs clash next year!

Scribe,
I would take Chard over the aforementioned every day of the week. We all know Rambo is the man in the following division, Hope (OI) plays in the ruck and always injured, Madden (StB) another ruckman, McKinnon (UB) good player, Wigney (OS) soft and a true no-body , Ford (OH)average, Mollard (OX) you are kidding, Moldini would himself laugh at your procrastinations and Jack Healy (OT) PLEAASEEE, go back to Ivanhoe Assumption.
I'm talking GENUINE week in week out CHF's.
On another note, can we confirm any new recruits to the comp, as well as big name departures?

At this stage, we've only got the loss of Lincoln Reynolds to marriage/retirement and the welcome return of Paul Gnatt, Richard Burrows, Tom Healy and Adam Andrews (all o/s or working) to report. Have several new players committed to pre-seasons, and will be looking to syphon something from the Euroa connection, but nothing firm.

I saw Hope play at CHB in the state game this year. Couldn't jump off the ground. I would be surprised if he ever played in the ruck.

Haven't seen any others.

Having said that, there are not many gun CHF's going around.

Is that since Heritage went down in round 1???

Speaking of Heritage. is it true that the girls of Motel have taken group action against him and a restraining order has been put on him meaning he can't go within 500 metres of Motel???

I would hope not. You can get away with just about anything there.

Could be true though, haven't spotted him for a while.

Mobbs,

Whats your thoughts on the VAFA getting its own Sub Forum here?

Discussion on the VAFA has gone ahead in leaps and bounds since 2004. A sub-forum is a decent idea, but would need support from the punters. I shall start a new thread guaging (I have never known how to spell it and am now too old to look it up) opinion.

While the new SA subforum is going along very nicely, one detraction is that I kind of miss seeing the south aussie around the general board.

Anyhoo, fair point, and I'll ask the question. Can't speak for Admin approval though.

Is that the same James Heritage who SKOB got a job for at KPMG, he started there and then, being the honest bloke, full of integrity that his father wishes he was, decided to **************** SKOB and play with the Lions?
What went around came around when he blew his knee round 1.
He takes over the title of the most ordinary bloke in Ammo footy, a title worn by Mick Blood for 7 years.
