Does anyone know why that the people coming on the board are only on for this year .
from memory.... 9 of the board 11 seats are fixed 3 year terms. If board member A leaves his/ her seat partway through the 3 years, the seat is filled directly by the board with another person who sees out the remainder of the 3 years before facing election. So each year, 3 seats are open for the members to nominate and elect new/ or re-elect the sitting member at the annual AGM.
The board also have 2 spots that they have full power to put on the board. These 2 sports open up each year - Board elected members can do multiple years, but normally these spots are used to fill "skills gaps" or used to give people that opportunity to see if can commit for longer terms.
Given all the change over the last 18 months, there are a number of new board members who have picked up vacant seats, therefor facing election prior to the 3 year period of a full term (Ivan being one of them).

Hopefully things can settle a bit now. Last thing we need is good people like Ivan walking away.

Note - Current constitution has no limits on how long members can remain on the board - eg unlimited 3 year terms. Most modern sports governances have changed this to a max of 3 x 3 year terms, which seems like a much better outcome for Members to me.

Cheers

Easier said than done , even good clubs that welcome everyone and have a good environment are struggling to get volunteers . People are different since the pandemic started , same with players , no matter what club it is.
That’s the real issue. Not the womens teams failing to “pull their weight” on the umpiring / volunteer front.

I agree that finding volunteers is a difficult task these days, COVID aside.

There are countless people who have been introduced to VAFA footy through the female competition, so I reckon it is a fantastic that we are getting men and women wanting to play the game. Yes, the volunteers may not match the participants, but it's a good problem to have. You won't have a club if you end up with plenty of people wanting to help out and no one wanting to play.

Do we have any clarity on the relegation/promotion amongst all the grades for this season yet? I'm guessing the old fashioned 2 up/2 down model is not in operation. Will the VAFA look at removing as many bye weekends as they can?

If this has been answered before, apologies I must have missed it.

I'd assume it's the following:

Prem A: 2 down
Prem B: 2 up, 1 down (Carey)
Prem C-D2: 2 up, 2 down
D3: 2 up, 3 down
D4: 2 up

So Prem A to D2 have 10 each and D3/D4 have 8 each

Prem C should drop 3 and promote 2 but surely couldnt drop Marcillin and penalising them for winning 6 games.
Therefore drop 2 and promote 1 to remove painful bye.
PEGS clearly favourite to win so promote them when they do win it

Prem B will probably only drop Carey so promoting 2 and dropping 1 means you make it 10 teams again down to D2

Some brainstorming has provided me with a bit of a list of the worst places to play footy in the VAFA as an away team. In no particular order I have come up with
Whitefriars
Richmond centrals
Therry penola
Aquinas
Williamstown cyms
fawkner
Yarra valley
st mary’s salesian
st. john’s

Am I far off the mark here?

Speaking from my experience:

Therry, Old Geelong, Peninsula (mostly because of the distance from everywhere, ground is decent) and Kew

Whitefriars are pretty good and I'm an SMS lad so I rather enjoy our ground.

Can we add Parkside?

Enough of your common sense approach... Pipe down ;)

In all seriousness, I hope the VAFA reads these threads at takes into account great suggestions such as these
