A lot of local cricket clubs are getting smaller, clubs that used to use 2 or 3 grounds over summer are now only needing 1 or 2 due to having less teams. I would say this would be a year by year proposition if a footy club manages to get a summer tenancy.

I'm with you. Fair's fair - 50/50.
More like 80:20

Footy clubs can train on off nights for cricket, but cricket can’t train on the off nights of football due to no light, wet grounds etc.

At the Pine we could (Council permitting) have the ground 100% of the year as, the ground is only used on alternate Saturdays. It’s never used during weekdays.

VAFA getting rid of Reserves in Prem B women for no apparent reason. Explanation please
This was raised at our AGM and we were told this was a mistake by the VAFA and shouldn’t have been published, yet it still hasn’t been amended on the website. Apparently Premier B Reserves isn’t going anywhere. The reason given for the removal of the grade which was “competitive balance” is a bit of a furphy given only 1 team out of 8 was uncompetitive.

Interesting conversation with a recently elected bayside councillor. The council have received 2-3 inquiries from football clubs about the option of obtaining 12 month leases on grounds, as opposed to the ground share agreements with summer based sporting clubs.
I am strongly opposed to this, clubs can share facilities.

I hope this is right. If they did remove reserves it would make women’s footy programs at these clubs very challenging to manage and destroy years of hard work.

Also, a hearty congratulations to Ormond best and fairest winner from 2023, Luke Kennedy on being drafted by the doggies. I'm sure that bedford will be a happy man.
Very happy , was hoping the Swans . We also had Harry Armstrong,go to the Tigers.
Also he was only 16 when he won it .
Had over 60 possies v Old Yarra early in the year

Some clubs went from having a junior team in every age group 15-20 years ago (under 10s,12,14,16 sometimes u18, and sometimes two in each) to having none

Also are going from from 6-7 senior teams to 3. Cricket clubs are in strife.

Heard there were a heap of forfeits that the VAFA wanted to do without. As you get one free of charge, then a $500 fine, then I think they have grounds to cancel the team (In the thirds I think this is true)

Given there were more forfeits in Premier B Men this year than Premier B Women I hope this isn’t the reason. Regardless I am told that the VAFA made a mistake with their press release and Premier B Women isn’t going anywhere. It would be nice if some clarification could be made public as a lot of clubs are rightly concerned by the announcement.

HQ Might have been talking with clubs about playing numbers sizes, if half the teams don't have enough for reserves can you justify having it? thats all I'm thinking

Some clubs have 3 sides, playing in divisions 1-4, I look at the top grade and see scotch, skob miles better than anyone else, then the top 6 are basically way way too good for the bottom 4.

I'd like to see player points introduced somewhat, the system is a bit of a joke now with W/VFL running right next to it, I'm under the impression if you don't have the VFL top ups you struggle
