VAFA General Discussion

Just put it back to August 1 , otherwise pull the pin on it . Had a gutful of selfish people.
AFL players have not only had the seriousness of issue put to them in chapter and verse but are reminded of it at each testing. Yet plonkers like those at Essendon still flout the protocols. Beyond words.

Community transmission cases of Covid have soared in the past two days which is worrying. Fingers crossed it's not the start of a second wave given we are so close to being able to go ahead with footy.
Being self indulgent.....I hate to say I told you so :'(

Unfortunately what looked like almost a lock this time last week, looks to be more unlikely by the day with regards to the season going ahead. The statement appeared to indicate training and competition restrictions haven't been tightened, however outdoor gatherings have been brought back to 10 people until the 12th of July, if I'm not mistaken. I feel this will be the final nail in the coffin paid leagues that had eager to get a season up. In terms of the VAFA, I can still see the VAFA potentially being viable, however I'm starting to be of the opinion if all or near all other leagues fall over, the VAFA will too.

It's quite extraordinary to see just how quickly things can change in the space of only a few days.

If "professionals" in the AFL can't seem to get it right, how do we expect local footballers to do so? What I'm trying to say is like all things in like, it's the bottom 5% that tend to ruin it for everyone. There'll always be someone with the wrong attitude of "It doesnt matter if I hug my friends, or my parents" etc

I still havent given up hope but like most others, I'm of the opinion that the 2020 season appears to be over but I hope I'm wrong.

10 teams per division (re-grading will be done ie merging div 3 and 4 potentially).
No tackling or contact in the lead up to round 1 to observe as much social distancing as possible - tough luck for match fitness, shortened VAFA quarters and hope for the best, perhaps 6 on the bench??
Round 1 - August 1
Round 9 - September 26
Finals: (Old School)
1st v 4th & 2nd v 3rd - October 3
Grand Final - October 10

FWIW and what happens when a club has a McKenna scenario? There isn't the flexibility to juggle the fixture like the AFL.
I was positive things would kick off, but sadly the weekend has put things back significantly.

16 cases in Victoria today, only 11 new cases however (something to do with re-classification).

9 patients in hospital, up from only 4 a few days ago which is "concerning".

Places of concern are known clusters such as:
Stamford Plaza (City)
Albenvale Primary (Caroline Springs)
Keilor Downs Family
H & M store Northland

Any idea when VAFA will release their statement?

AFL have sent all leagues an update. Dates for contact training and games have now been withdrawn and further announcements will be made in July (no date given). Juniors to proceed as originally directed, however, no contact nor intra club games at this stage.

So the general feeling is the VAFA will postpone its announcement for another 2 weeks or so?

Are they genuinly considering that or is just a possible course of action? I was of the understanding that the final decision was to be made by the VAFA board today/tonight?

No issue with a 2-week postponement to see if things can get back on track but surely if we are still limbo by then a decision has to be made to call it and look towards 2021.

Reliably informed that the VAFA board will convene this evening (As planned) and it’s all but assured that the season will be cancelled. Even AFL has banned contact for >9 players.

As Gareth Evans said to Bob Hawke.. "Pull out digger the dogs are pissing on ya swag".. Effectively the writing is on the wall with this AFL announcement.. Very unfortunate that it appears a small select group of people have decided to flout rules and have ruined it for everyone else..

If we were going by AFL rules then we would be playing now. They have a separate set of Covid 19 rules probably because they spend 30 hours a week together. I think our boys spend max 3 hours training. Next 2 weeks will decide if we go ahead

I've lost a bit of confidence , but put it back to Aug 8 ,then have a 2 week finals 2 v 3 , winner plays 1 who gets a home ground final. It still fits in with the allowed date.

You could start as late as August 15.

9 Round comp with the top two in a standalone final on Oct 18.

Just lay that out as a plan. Wait for the juniors to return playing in Mid-July, and if that all goes well, gives you 4 weeks to prepare for a half-season of play.
