VAFA meeting was last night.....but leagues can be stubborn.

Facts are, the VAFA have approx 6 teams in lock down postcodes & multiple old boys teams that aren't allowed to play on school grounds.

Proceed?
100%, neutral venues if need be, heaps of grounds available now that suburban paid leagues are out.

9 games + 2 weeks of finals means we still need to start August 1st to finish by October 18th. Gives the locked down teams 2 days before Round 1. How would it work for them?

They Start a week later & have a midweek catch-up game, maybe 2. Ammo clubs training 5+ weeks now, zero +ive cases, we can do it.

Respect your optimism, but asking amateur players to play a midweek game between two saturday games is a bit of a stretch. Even if it were just seniors, that's a pretty heavy load for guys with jobs, kids etc. that aren't getting paid. Given PEGS and Therry are both in Division 1 the only way I can see it working is if they both agree to start from Round 2 (10 days after easing of restrictions) and split the points between each other for in Round 1. North Brunswick....I'm not sure as the Division 3/4 setup is a tricky one with an awkward number of teams.

I don't think a positive case is the problem here, it's the fairness about players from multiple clubs, and some entire clubs, not being able to train until 2 days before the absolute latest Round 1 start date.

I believe both Brunswick clubs (West & North) have avoided the suburb lock downs.

Whilst I applaud a lot of people's optimism about a possible 2020 season, some of it comes across as far very far fetched i.e what if this what i that, what if cases go down, what if players arent from the postcodes, what if other grounds can be used, what if we can play midweek catch up games, what if teams can begin with a bye, what if we start in mid August instead - you can catch my drift. Also VAFA has come out and stated the latest a season will start is August 1

There's frankly too many variables at the moment and whilst I appreciate the VAFA doing everything they can, I can't see them giving us the green light

Believe me I hear you. Nothing worth a pinch of salt has ever been easy, that's why this could be our finest achievement. All your points are valid👍

Just checked and you are correct North Brunswick play out of Brunswick East which is not in lockdown. West Brunswick play out of Parkville and Brunswick (formerly NOBs) play out of Brunswick. Although, technically the entrance to Brunswick's ground is from a street in Brunswick West which is in lockdown! Wrap your head around all of that:tearsofjoy:

I applaud the optimistic view shared by most but even as a staunch supporter of getting a season under way the latest setback across Victoria has made it impossible to run a season with any integrity. The questions that would remain

what happens if a team has a player who acquires COVID?

What happens if multiple players acquire COVID and are asymptomatic when taking the field creating a cluster among other teams?

what if a club fails in meeting the strict match day protocols and coaches and players attract the virus?

How would a season continue if teams have to isolate and potentially have games suspended?

could you have a season if a cluster denies teams from completing 9 games before finals?

what if this spike continues grow over the next 3-4 week period causing for stricter restrictions?

way too many uncontrollable scenarios, I think the idea of playing a series of friendlies or a carnival in late August might be the only way to go. However in saying that many teams season would be coming to an end at the time in a traditional sense and player motivation may be on the decline.

It may happen rnd 1 2021 if there is one, what do we do then?

No such thing as a friendly, and to be honest I think a carnival of sorts would be a waste of time. Cant see many players wanting to play a micky mouse tournament with nothing on the line.

9 game season or nothing.

Whilst we're on the topic of positivity, lets say VAFA fully commit and have a start date of August 1. The worst thing to happen is they cancel the season 2 weeks before? Might as well try keep players interested and keep clubs together

If there was to be a tournament, why don't the leagues get together and have a true carnival to decide the best competition in Victoria? Be easier to manage 6 teams across different leagues than a whole competition and they could play a proper round robin carnival playing everyone with no club commitments clashing.

Getting the people you want to commit may be difficult or it could be easy as people want to play, you definitely wouldn't struggle to fill a side in each league that's for sure.

Therry have pulled out. St Bernards set to be next

Interesting decision for the VAFA H/O if these individual clubs pull out, yet other clubs in 'currently' non-effected post code areas confirm via the survey to clubs last week that they want to play?

By the way, I don't think we will go ahead, but as I am sitting around a little more than usual at the moment it's kind of fun to think about the obscure.

Chump.

Just play the top 3

C'mon Bedders. You wouldn't be saying the same thing if the Monders were still in D1. Plenty of clubs below C Grade are ready and raring to go

Can someone actually explain why Women's and 19's can go ahead but not Men's?

Just passing on what I've been told. I have no idea why they should.

Something along the lines that 19's and Women don't need to use change rooms ?????? This is real
