VAFA General Discussion

They are from the ‘club’ pool. While you get some excellent umpires, at times the knowledge and ‘objectivity’ can vary. Happy to be corrected but understood that finals umpires are from the VAFA pool but perhaps Max or others with more contemporary umpiring experience can confirm.
The club pool used to take care of Prem A, B and C. It now only looks after Prem A clubs.

Finals come from VAFA umpires.

Quality of Prem A Ressie pool umpires tend to be on the older side.

Speaking of VAFA finals, now that representative football is over for another year, when will the VAFA announce its venues, ticket prices and dates for the VAFA finals, seeing that the SFNL has already tabled its September plans well in advance regardless of who will be playing in their finals series this year?

I believe clubs have been told which grounds and dates are easy , don't finals come after the home and away season

Hopefully they get creative with their ticketing this year.

A weekend pass for the same venue, or an Elternwick park pass that allows you to attend any final at the ground.

Or dare I say, A 'club' pass. Allows you to attend any final/s of any team from your club that has qualified for finals regardless of the grade/venue/sex.

Division 1: Brisindi Street, Mentone

Whitefriars for D3. Hoping BHCO for C grade and TBBO for D1/D2

Doubt the trott would be used wouldn’t parks Vic want to get the deck ready for cricket? Also tough to charge entry there.
Surely vafa’s favourite venue in hadfield gets another run

So the umpire appointments I read weekly with field umpires appointed the Premier A and B reserves are incorrect?

But in this case, once finals start I see clubs from the higher grades complain about it on here every year.
A and B reserves umps are club appointed umpires. They receive zero training and in some case are not registered as a umpire. It's harder to be allowed to umpire Under 9s on Sunday morning than it is to umpire A or B grade reserves footy. Vafa are a joke.

Wrong. Only Prem A are appointed. In Prem B we appoint our own. But you are correct. No training or registration.

As a general rule most who do Prem B ressies have little or no bearing on the result.

We try not to be biased.🤞

I mentioned it to the umpiring department that all club umpires should be registered with the VAFA. Keep them up to date with rule interpretations within the VAFA and nuances between grades. Doesn't cost anything to register and you get allocated to the umpire e-mail distribution lists.

It would allow for greater consistency from senior to reserve to thirds football.

In olden days we had coaches watching us and we got feed back.

Good ole Norm Nugent.

Now that's a name a haven't heard for a while, loved reading his Club XVIII write ups in the record every Thursday night.
Favourite writers to read in the old-style Amateur Footballer:

Norm Nugent (Club 18)
Max Lyon (Under 19)
Peter Hille (F Section)
Noel Rundle (Looking Back)
Anthony Damen & Steve McCarthy (Umpires Corner)
Tom Brain (various sections)

Back when the scribes made an effort to get to as many games as they could. They'd often come to clubs post game and get to know the coaches and players.

What's the process VAFA clubs have to go through if they want to host VAFA finals/grand finals for a section (ie Division 3) other than the section the host club currently play in (ie Premier C)?
