1 up 1 down has serious merit for prem grades.

Faster movement in divisions makes some sense too.

Personally I believe the season should be shorter (perhaps with a longer mid season break too)

I'd also consider shrinking the size of the divisions (have the bottom divisions larger)
I am just sooo happy that you’re not running the show.

The Div 1 teams that went up to Prem C last year, went back down again this year straight away.

The high price probably reflects the cost of hiring the venue??
Does anybody know???
Carlton charges $10 000 for Icon.
Why hire venues/ground? They surely make stuff all after hiring a venue, temporary fences, security etc etc. Just make it free I reckon and pick the best grounds.

HUH???

You do realise that you have to pay someone to hire a ground ... any ground ...
You can't just turn up and say "we are using this ground today!"
VAFA sell a weekend of finals to clubs with right facilities .
Club gets canteen and bar
Free entry ..??

Can't understand why the Homlesglen Under 19 1st Semi Final between Old Scotch and Uni Blues is starting at 5pm at Elsternwick Park, remembering that the lights at EP aren't 100% efficient or strong enough to light up the whole ground, as we saw in the representative game against WA earlier this year, when watching the live stream/replay of the match, most of the ground wasn't lit up well enough.

Alienate the non premier grades even more, good idea

By giving them the ability to move up the ranks quicker than premier clubs?
They will not be moving any faster than they ever have. Premier clubs will just be protected from relegation.

Whether 1 up or 2 up is better will vary from division to division and from year to year.

In some cases, you will have two sides worthy of promotion (both finished 16-2, GF decided by a matter of points). In other cases, you will have one runaway winner.

In some cases, you will have two sides desperate to be relegated (both finished 1-17, or one 2-16 and the other 0-18). In other cases, you will have hopeless side and a 9th placer desperately unlucky to be relegated (the then Fitzroy Reds once went down with 6 wins).

In many cases a runner up has done better after promotion than a premier - so you will need to get the crystal ball working.

This is equally true of all divisions, from top to bottom (with the obvious exceptions that you can't be promoted from A or relegated from D3).

In an ideal world the VAFA would try and tailor promotion to suit the situation. But the two cases may not align - you might have two hopeless sides needing to be relegated, but only one team worthy of replacing them. What do you do then?

Also, if the VAFA starts tailoring solutions, it will create inconsistency. Inconsistency is often interpreted as unfairness or favouritism.

Imo, there has to be a hard and fast rule for all divisions. I think 2-up, 2-down is the better way, with the only exceptions being when a team leaves the VAFA.

Seeing St Bedes Mentone Tigers and AJAX are playing in the Premier C 1st Semi Final this weekend, will it bring back memories of a VAFA grand final that the two teams were involved in 20 years ago at the same ground, which has been regarded by many as one of the greatest grand finals and matches in VAFA history-the 2006 VAFA C Section Grand Final?

The game that year had everything:

-Huge crowd to attend the game, bit like what the VFA had in the mid 1970s. It was like you had walked into a timewarp that day. Instead of St Bedes Mentone v AJAX, it would be Sandringham v Port Melbourne, with stars like Alf Beus and Darrell McKenzie for the Zebras; the late Fred Cook, Bill Swan, Graham 'Buster' Harland and George Allen for Port, with the match televised live on Channel 0 (later 10), with the commentators, Phil Gibbs, Don Hyde and Ted Henrys;

-All in brawl to start the game;

-AJAX playing brilliant football to at one stage lead by 8 goals during the second quarter;

-The extraordinary comeback by the Tigers in the second half;

-8 lead changes in the final quarter;

-St Bedes Mentone win by 1 point.
