It may well be becuase of injuries or lack of interest but can anyone explain the absence of the following players from the final rep side

Brett Dobson???????
Cameron Purss
Tim Ockleshaw
Ben Waite
James Gerstman
Kynan Ford
Nathan Bingham

Also I was wondering if was humanly possible to give these players more Vic jumpers at the expense of much better players

Murray Pitts
Andrew Ramsden
Andrew "Fricking" Crow, who looks about a stone overweight and has barely touched it all year

Every year it's the same

I thought Daniel Ryan from Old Essendon was stiff to miss out on the rep squad this year. In career best form and would be leading the B & F at Keilor Hill.

I'd have to agree with both of you, the selectors continue to pick players based on name and not on form. Players having great seasons should be rewarded with a guernsey rather than going to players down on form but with a reputation!

I suggest all supporters boycott this weekends game and spend your free weekend doing something you enjoy.

Send the VAFA a message!!!

Dont know what you've got against Pittsy, the bloke may love a beer and a night out more than he loves hot dinners, but hes a bloody good football player regardless. Has been on an AFL list and is a regular contributor to Beauy. Very, very talented.

Brett Dobson??????? - mystifying, already has one hand on the Woodrow, but not a name player.

Cameron Purss - was in last year, must've ruled himself out.

Tim Ockleshaw - see Purss

Ben Waite - ask The Big Cat who kicked 8 on him in a losing side at HQ 9 days ago - not good by Waite.

James Gerstman - injured.

Kynan Ford - would've had a better chance if the rep squad list got mixed up with the Most Ordinary Blokes in the VAFA listings.

Nathan Bingham - dunno, see Purss/Ockleshaw, maybe Bones has been murmuring to Sholls about keeping the red 'n' black list intact?

Re: inclusions

Murray Pitts - always plays well in rep games
Andrew Ramsden - last years AAFC skipper and still getting the job done week in/out - which ruckman has beaten him this year?
Andrew "Fricking" Crow - yep, no argument here, but he did win a Woodrow, fair while ago though........

PS - Scribe2 - what's going on, I thought they never released a sequel until the original was on free-to-air first release? ;)

Scribe (1)

As The Godfather and Empire Strikes Back tell us, sequals often surpass the original.

Anyway....

Dobson would be the first player I would pick, espcially when you're playing a country team

Pitts is on one knee these days and is just a player.

I reckon Purss touched up Rambo???

Fair Enough on Waite; the Big Cat himself was pretty unlucky himself.

For once, this rep game actually means something, unlike those interstate shaemozzles and it would be good to have genuine qaulity in there.

I assume that Denver Artz is in Kiev, hence his unprecedented non appearance in the squad?

How did that pretender Lincoln Reynolds find his way into the rep squad?

Sore knees?

Remember all,

This is a revised squad only, they still have to trim 3 more players.

Ya never know, based on recent weather, The Champ might decide to put those knees through their paces at Falls Creek this weekend instead of Elsternwick Park.

Apres ski is bound to be better than apres footy.

Who cares who is in the side, how far VCFL for mine... Ammos too soft for the boys from the bush. Barooga all over again. The mere mention of the name Jason Mifsud still sees some high profile VAFA players sh*t their pants.

And lets hope the 2007 clash is played at Alexandra Oval in Ararat. After all, Brian "Muncher" Moloney who the cup is named after was from Ararat, and it seems fitting that the game actually be held there when it is next the turn for the VCFL to host.

Plus it's one of the best grounds in the state.

NB - the 2004 All-Australian Amateur Captain couldn't get a game in his school 1st XVIII either, so the weight of that is questionable. ;)

Can't blame Liddell for playing at Caulfield if, indeed, that's where he went to school. Scribe2 - would you have played for another club if De La (I think I've got you pegged properly) had gone to C Grade in the late 90's? I seriously doubt it.

We must acknowledge that it's far better for top players to stick close to their school/club of origin rather than to be VAFA nomads looking for the next club which will give them a go. Whilst St Bernards appear to have attracted many St Kevins alumni over the last few years, I still believe we don't have anywhere near the same problem that, say, the EFL have with lower grade clubs being continually pillaged by higher grade sides. Forget the $$$ issue as well, that's just another headache.

However, I digress - the issue of continually recycling the same names is of concern, but I think guys like Credlin, Pitts, et al who continually support the concept and enjoying playing for the Big V deserve to remain as long as their club form warrants it. I think the selectors do well to not stack the side with guns from the top 4 in A grade, because they'd probably play better together that way, but it's about giving more players/clubs a go so the concept remains well supported.

The VAFA / SFL side and the U23 team are great avenues to filter in the newbies (eg. Cullinan who'll probably graduate this week). Throw in the 9 guys going to Ireland and the U19 North -v- South games, and I think the VAFA have done far better this year to promote new, young players than ever before.

Just an opinion though.......

Just been finalised - the last 5 cut were Liam Ryan (UB), The Champ (OT), Dave Waters (Marc), Cam McKenzie-McHarg (OS) and Nigel Credlin (OCamb).

Scribe,

Interesting that the 2004 All Aus Captain couldn't even get a gig as a VC!
Perhaps last year was the only thing keeping him in the team at all!

Totally valid points. I was a bit harsh on this team I guess; suppose I'm still a bit shirty about last year's team. You could argue that the three best players in the amateurs last year were Young (Uni) Hayter (Uni) and Williams (Trinity) yet I'm pretty sure none of them got a gig in the state team. Speaking of Abe Williams, what happened to him? He could really play.

I can't believe Andrew Ramsden couldn't get in his school firsts!

Andrew Crow in the VAFA team???

We all have to peak at some stage (even if not in our eyes!).

I think the team leader selections are very good. Corrigan has AFL experience and is having a stellar season. Gleeson won the Woodrow last year and was the premiership skipper. Hopey is skipper of the B Grade juggernaut and is also having a very good year himself in a very successful side. Can't fault it really.

Reckon Phil Stevens' departure has resulted in the Ramsden stocks plummetting at Rep Selection night!! Doubt he'll give it much thought himself, whether you tossed the coin or not, as long as you win, the beer tastes the same.

Best of luck to the boys, hope they bring home another trophy.

Scribe 2,

Abe Williams is playing for good $$$ in the DVFL at Heidelberg (with one of his older brothers). Having now got used to being heavily tagged, I believe he's regularly in their best and they're yet to drop a game. Great kid, but we couldn't compete with the lure of the coin unfortunately. Frankly, if I was as good as him, I'd probably have doen the same thing. Never had to make that decision myself though! ;)

As for Rambo, he blossomed from a 6 foot nothing wingman to a 6'7" ruckman in 1992/3. Helped a lot with his natural development.

Whilst the weather is predicted to be ordinary, the ommision of a renowned goal kicking machine will cost the VAFA side, who is going to kick those goals?? Other than Lynch, Not sure any of the blokes in the side are on the sharp shooters list

Needed, one or two of the following:
Gertsman, Boffa, Big Cat, Cullinan, Minton-Connell

Is there any reason why you ammos have not said boo since the game. Did anyone see the game, where did the boys from the bush beat you guys. I hear that the VCFL had the best preparation they have ever had. Speaking with one of the player Ratten did an outstanding job. Maybe something for the ammos to think about.

The Almost Football Legends clip last night on The Footy Show with the VCFL player smothering the VAFA player's kick then getting up and goaling was a good one. From that snapshot you could say, enough said!

Ammos guys say nothing after the game cos they're too embarrassed about the shellacking they got from the VCFL. I can't see the VAFA winning one of these games for some time.

VCFL 13 13 91 to VAFA 8 14 62

Hopefully they will be able to get this game played at the MCG as a curatin raiser where the game deserves to be :)
