Sadly the statistics are that much higher when having a close family member successfully take their own life for it to happen again in the same family.

Just a massive kick in the guts, feel for the family.

No matter how hard it can be to see, there is always more than one option.
I feel like the twin thing is a massive factor. Absolutely shocking ā˜¹ļø

Those closely impacted by a suicide - ie partners, immediate family, close friends - are six times more likely to take their own lives.

We have a mental health crisis in this country.

Absolutely devastating news for the Selwood family and entire AFL community

Just awful.

After Troy, you'd imagine he and the rest of the family would have had plenty of support and checking in with each other etc, and still, this happens. Really goes to show, how insidious the black dog and grief together can be.

RIP Adam.

Yeah I could not imagine the feeling, sickening and inescapable.

I felt shit for ages when I heard a guy I used to work with did it and I'd only had a beer or 2 with him.

Imagine it being someone so close.

F***

The 2 most predisposing factors to suicide are being a man, and family he of suicide.

I’m my line of work unfortunately ive worked with many who didn’t make it. Mostly men.

We have to do better.

Being an identical twin increases the risk five-fold on top the risk you have already highlighted

Just noticed the devastating headline banner on the news. Will have to give the footy a miss until Eagles-Saints, can’t stomach any matches today.

Sibling grief is incredibly hard, know it too well, and a few months absence in (from Troy) kicks it up a notch. Adam was one of my favourites during his playing days, one of our better performed doing the hard yards and setting the tone across that 2008-10 rebuild period and was really stiff not to place in the 2009 B&F (would’ve been a worthy recipient).

What, I assumed this was an old thread about Troy when I saw the title.

2 brothers dead in the space of 1 year is horrific.
So did I. I'm shook at learning it was another Selwood. There are no words. I can't even begin to imagine what the family is going through having lost two of their sons / brothers so close together - way too young both of them.

For sure. You might think you're starting to feel a little better, and then next thing you know, something seemingly innocuous happens and the dog drags you back under the quicksand again and you can't see a way out.
